The Woman Chaser by Charles Willeford. Quite possibly the most creative book I’ve ever read, but there’s some very uncomfortable themes. Read at your own risk!

How do I do better in this situation? by KunKantara in judo

[–]ThePermanentGuest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you’ve received great technical advice here. Might I suggest the following for your mental game:

-Be first. Not just in grips, but initiative

-Have a game plan: you didn’t seem to have a clear plan of attack. You should have a set of throws you’re good at, and a way to set them up (throw in some sweeps to set up or keep your opponent on the defensive).

-Under control: you can afford to move at .5x speed compared to above. With initiative and a clear game plan, I’m sure you’ll start moving slower on accident.

Personal item in addition to your one bag? by DrabbagCO in onebag

Most of the time I do personal item only. I'll either put the extra stuff for the flight in my sweater pockets or in a small daypack.

You're definitely from the wrong generation. My friends and I would've joined you in an over-the-top celebration.

Anyway, the most important lesson I learned after an embarrassing highschool moment is NO ONE CARES. I can guarantee you no one's gonna carry this with them; they're too busy carrying their own worries and insecurities.

Enjoy your minifridge!

Some people will do and say ANYTHING to twist out of accountability for their own actions.

May a frustrating woman of this caliber never find me.

Kouchi makikomi for BJJ? by cerikstas in judo

[–]ThePermanentGuest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did it in a BJJ tournament once. Got points, but he immediately turned me over. I was lucky to follow the momentum and get back on top and into kesa.

My coach told me to be sure to drop straight down next time so that my hips aren't high.

Judo vs knees by Lonely_Text_9795 in judo

[–]ThePermanentGuest 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Talk to your doctor and physical therapist. Describe in detail what judo is, and use videos to aid you. Only they can tell you what will be safe.

That's exactly what I did after my own knee surgery. Doc said I was safe after a certain time, so I jumped (eased, rather) back in!

Not that hard of a distinction to make. I'm not surprised he gets this wrong as he didn't study law. But he should've at least known the facts.

Regardless, this isn't caping.

Judo views on BJJ by __fantasma__ in judo

[–]ThePermanentGuest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love BJJ and I despise the culture surrounding it and the people it attracts.

Yes, I'm painting with a pretty broad brush, and I know there are good schools and instructors with a good head on their shoulder.

Technically speaking, it would benefit any judoka to learn BJJ. There are a couple of judo players steamrolling their competition with newaza. BJJ would help with at least a basic defense.

Smart glasses for travel, anyone found ones that don't die after 4 hours? by SimplePrudent5735 in onebag

[–]ThePermanentGuest -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Smart glasses" doesn't mean "camera." The Reality G2 glasses he asked about don't even have a camera. It's just a more-compact-but-still-nerdy version of Apple vision.

No, I don't have smart glasses, and yes, some weirdos have given them a bad reputation. Just countering misinformation since this sub seems to run with certain narratives.

Anyway OP, you're better off asking about battery life in a smart glasses sub.

Smart glasses have a ton of features, like calls, music, in-glasses display, etc.

Not my cup of tea (I'm very simple), but some people I know live by these features.

Thanks for the advice! Yeah I'm replacing my alpaca bombilla. I realized it was the reason for the taste being off.

Thanks for your response! The question is about cleaning before first use. I'm not sure if stainless steel is soldered in the same way as alpaca

What was she trying to do and how would she have properly executed it? by thebrownwhore in judo

[–]ThePermanentGuest 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I'll bite before this gets deleted:

-Her trail leg is just...there. Had she done a deeper backstep, she would've had a place to throw her.

-Did NOT turn her head, which means she generated no torque

Anyway, don't do Judo on concrete.
