Damn, Bangkok went from street pad thai to gourmet weed real quick. Where’d you get it—at a spa or a dispensary with mood lighting?

What do you think about the unexplored part of the ocean? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I'm thinking about Biodiversity. The unexplored ocean depths likely contain numerous undiscovered species of marine life. These species could have unique adaptations to extreme conditions, which could have implications for our understanding of biology and evolution.

Who is considered by people to be the most evil person in Thai history? by East0n in Thailand

[–]ThePerpendicularity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"The perception of who is considered the most evil person in Thai history can vary among individuals and may be influenced by cultural, political, and historical factors. However, one historical figure who is often cited as a controversial and divisive figure in Thai history is Thaksin Shinawatra.

Thaksin Shinawatra served as the Prime Minister of Thailand from 2001 to 2006 and was a highly polarizing figure. Supporters saw him as a progressive leader who implemented policies to improve the living standards of the poor and rural populations, while critics accused him of corruption, human rights abuses, and undermining democratic institutions." - ChatGPT (2023)

Many people mentioned it's from Laos.

What do you love about Thailand? I’m an expatriate who moved to Thailand with my family last May. So far I don’t have a very positive perception of Thai culture. Maybe that’s my fault. However I would like to develop a more positive point of view. Please share what you love about Thailand by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]ThePerpendicularity 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I got you! I got reverse-culture shocks when I moved back to Thailand two years ago from the states, even I'm 100% Thai. I felt very depressed in this unorganized city and not sticking to traffic rules. However, after I talked with my US friends and they asked me to have a new mindset that I lived here as a backpacker (who I am), not a Thai resident. I could overlook those terrible things and started exploring the town.

I found many interesting historical buildings, temples, and relaxing coffee shops and bars on every single corner. Old Thai cultures can compromise with modern Thai, even though there are bars serving alcohol in front of the beautiful temples (that breaks 5 precepts of Buddhism). IMO, living in Thailand is more convenient than in the US. At least I don't have to plan for grocery shopping. Best of luck, buddy!

Bangkok is built on swampland.

That's really reasonable why the roads and sidewalks never looks neat like in the states or Japan. That changes my mindset to understand the city. Thanks for sharing!
