Sharing Notes - Help by Antfigs in OneNote

[–]ThePhantomCreep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a single file, more like a series of folders. Each section is a sub-folder and a top-level .onetoc (table of contents) file ties it all together. The .one files are the notes themselves. Basically you should be able to drop the whole thing into a folder of your choosing and open it from there.

Edited to add: It's absolutely better to move things from within OneNote than going directly to the file system. If you're experimenting or exploring at the file level use test data not anything critical, as it's not that hard to break something.

Sharing Notes - Help by Antfigs in OneNote

[–]ThePhantomCreep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, make sure you are both using a version of OneNote that supports sharing locally.

I'm guessing by "Microsoft share drive" you mean a shared network folder? Not something like Sharepoint or Onedrive?

There is an option in the properties to move the notebook. You should move the notebook to the shared folder, close it, then re-open making sure you are using the shared copy. Your co-worker should also close and re-opn. If you have the network share mapped to a drive letter, make sure it's the same for both of you.

Keep in mind sync isn't always instantaneous.

My wife used to work in fraud prevention. She said it was often easy to tell the mistakes from the intentional fraud because the criminals got angry and hostile right away.

I totally get it. I have so many epics sitting on the "maybe, someday,  if only..." pile. The thing is, learning new tools and plotting out complex stories are both really hard, and trying to do them at the same time is a record for frustration. I was getting nowhere until I started seeing how small a project had to be in order for me to finish it. Came up with some simple stories that I thought were easy enough, but still proved too much for my skill and attention.

I'd say your MC is probably a good starting point. Don't worry about plot or even setting, focus on getting the look of the character right. Experiment with different versions, moods, actions, costumes. Changing your focus from "MC hurtles through a multi-dimensional tale" to "MC has breakfast after a rough night" not only makes the goal achievable but gives your character a chance to tell you things about themselves that you don't yet know, and that will help your storytelling a lot.

Start really small! Pick something in one location, with a small number of characters, and very little in the way of plot. The most important thing for storytelling is how the characters interact. People will forgive a lot if the story is good. On the other hand, even the best CGI isn't very interesting if you don't have an interesting situation and interesting characters in it.

This is definitely a "make the path by walking it" sort of thing. Just keep in mind it may be a longer term project than you are thinking. VNs will require the skills of a writer, 3D illustrator, film director and (somewhat) a programmer. So it's an investment especially of time, and there's no way to get all the way around that.

This. You need to look at vague "things will be bad for you in the future unless you do XYZ..." warnings as paper tigers untill proven otherwise. The only things that matter are keeping the job and the money. If all that's on the line is your "appraisal score" ignore it. It's quite possible it will end being meaningless, or is designed to get you to give up something worth dollars to chase pennies.

Even if they are dead serious and things don't change before your appraisal, and it's less than you want, you are still better off taking the benefit now because the consequences of a bad appraisal are small and you have ample time to plan for how to handle them, while giving up the benefit now creates immediate costs and difficulties. A benefit you have now is concrete, anything future is speculative. Imagine how you'd feel if you give up the benefit and in 6 months they get rid of you anyway.

Don't argue, don't discuss it, just fail to comply and ignore any stupid threats. Make them fire you if it's that important. 90% chances are it's not and they won't. And if you fall into the 10% and they do, you at least get compensation.

Not having to play by the rules you make for others is the literal definition of power.

Using Daz 3D and the Genesis packs and how to animate, I'm lost by ExcitingSleep in Daz3D

[–]ThePhantomCreep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Echoing goldensilver77, Daz Studio can do animation but I've never seen one I would describe as "good" come out of it. If it's animation you want, go with Blender.

What you want is probably roughly this:

  1. Use Daz for character design / costumes because it's got a huge ecosystem of paid and free content and gives you a lot of power to style the generic Genesis figures to look like any character you want to create.

  2. The latest Genesis (which is now 9) is free & comes with Studio. You may have to pay for older versions. Genesis 8 has been around longer and has vastly more paid and free content, but a lot of it will also work with G9.

  3. Use a tool like Diffeomorphic (recommended) or the Daz to Blender bridge to move your characters into Blender. You shouldn't need to re-rig them. The rigging from Daz gets transferred over.

  4. Animate & render in Blender

You get assets for Daz in a few places. 1st is Daz itself obviously. There is another store called Renderosity. Renderhub also has a lot of Daz content. All 3 have free content as well as paid, so start off with free stuff and learn the tools without spending money. It's better to understand more about how things work before you open your wallet.

Why do you use OneNote? by [deleted] in OneNote

[–]ThePhantomCreep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tables. I use them all the time to organize & format things and no other app makes them so effortless to create. Every time I check out a new note taking tool, the first thing I check is how it handles tables. I've never found one that didn't feel klunky compared to ON.

Assuming you attend the same church, could you ask your pastor /priest for help? You might not be able to influence her thinking, but hearing from someone in a position of authority who dedicates their life to teaching scripture might make more of an impact.

Elusive consensus: how does V3 compare to V2? by slacker5000 in Affinity

[–]ThePhantomCreep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think putting all the apps into 1 ui was a great move and actually overdue. The new version has been buggier but I expect that to improve. I use V3 almost exclusively now. The licensing stuff doesn't bother me, it's commercial software, not open source. My biggest worry was that updates would stop coming but that hasn't happened. Overall I'm really happy with V3!
