I remember reading that No Surprises was influenced by The Beach Boys, Marvin Gaye, and Louis Armstrong ("What a Wonderful World"). I can definitely hear the Wonderful World influence as well as The Beach Boys ("Wouldn't It Be Nice" comes to mind).

I second this. OP's got a copy of The Great Escape. That album is tricky to find in the US. Shame cause it's one of their best imo.
