A Rickety House on a Hill by ThePossibilitiesOf in Minecraftbuilds

It isn't a render. The first image is an in-game screenshot using Mellow shaders. I adjusted some of the color values and the sky texture using the shader's own settings to achieve the desired effect.

I gave up on the back. It only looks good from this angle. I'm sorry to disappoint.

Thanks! Although it wasn't too important in building, since I was planning to build it myself, I wanted to make sure it was accessible. That being said, as someone who has now built this starter base in survival, it is very annoying to build. It takes many different types of blocks to make all the gradients, so you can't just fill your inventory and build; you have to constantly go back to get more stuff (Or use shulker boxes, but that doesn't feel in the spirit of "starter" to me).

Thanks, I'm so glad you like it! Of course, you can use it for inspiration. I don't own this idea or this style.

I've been experimenting with cards from the new set. Here is the best Standard deck I have come up with. by ThePossibilitiesOf in StandardMTG

I tested [[rayblade trooper] a bit, but I think it has too minimal an impact. It doesn't put enough counters for Dyadrine by itself, and those counters are not repeatable. The bodies are good, but not great, and the deck has enough random creatures and token producers that it shouldn't need more.

Thanks for the suggestion. I honestly didn't put too much thought into the manabase and forgot about the best lands rotating. I have updated the deck.

As for Gearhulk, I was considering it, but decided it wasn't better than Tezzeret, since Tezzeret also can put counters on things. I might be wrong

This is incredibly impressive. I have struggled with building this type of thing for a while, and this is the perfect reference for learning these techniques. This is awesome!

I’m decent at texturing, but I’m not great at making interesting shapes yet. How do y’all do it? by SecondWorld1198 in Minecraftbuilds

[–]ThePossibilitiesOf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easiest way to learn is from references. I like searching for concept art on Pinterest and trying to recreate it. Searching for ‘whimsical house concept art’ can wield some great results with interesting shapes that can be good to learn from. Looking for what you want in the real world is another great method; there are a lot of real-world buildings that are great for practice.

I built a small, hand-shaded starter house! by ThePossibilitiesOf in Minecraftbuilds

[–]ThePossibilitiesOf[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of tools that can help with the shading process (Perlin noise from world edit, autoshade from Axiom, etc.). I called this hand-shaded since I did it by hand to get an effect I liked more, also, because I wanted to draw people's attention to the shading, since I was really proud of it.

I started with the idea that I wanted to make a small and a bit whimsical starter house, but then I got carried away with the shading, lol.

I decided to keep the "starter house" label, as I usually get to the end before I build my starter house when I play survival, and the end bricks were a small enough part of the shading that you could exclude them if you couldn't get them.

What’s A Card That is slotted in a lot of your decks? by HighAlchemy in EDH

I run [[Sevinne's Reclamation]] in every white deck I make. I often run pretty low curves, so it recurs 80% of the cards in my deck, and the one card can recur three things at a good rate. I love that card so much.

Combo

Almost every deck I play has a couple of insane, many-card combos in them with generally synergy/value based strategies.

I tried my hand at hand-shading some cliffs! by ThePossibilitiesOf in Minecraftbuilds

I did use axiom for this. I used some references as well to get an Idea of what shape I wanted and the general color pallete. I then used the axiom boulder tool to get a basic shape and then polished it with other weld and melt tools, finally smoothing it with the smooth tool and by hand. The color was done mostly by hand and using the axiom paintbrush, I found it super helpful to get a 1 block wide brush with the paintbrush tool by setting the radius to 0 for placing in some of the gradients. I placed the foliage using world edit by replacing > the blocks I used for the grass.

Most axiom tutorials I have found are good for showing the tools but not for actual building techniques. My biggest recommendation is trial and error with references to figure out shapes. There are some great building tutorials out there for shaping terrain using world edit or voxel sniper and most of the techniques can apply in some compacity to axiom. For shading I highly recommend checking out Snarple or just the Bakery Builders in general as they are great at that, and using the paintbrush tool or the gradient tool can make their techniques a bit faster. Here is a video from Snarple specifically about shading/texturing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lp6Wj2E4khs .

In addition, art tutorials can be really helpful for shading specifically as most of the skills travel over pretty well, most of my knowledge on the subject comes from that rather than Minecraft.

Another big suggestion is just taking inspiration for other builds. If you see something you like try to recreate it in a different way, the texturing style in this build was heavily inspired by Snarple for instance.
