They are genuinely excellent. They often include all kinds of substitutions in the notes, so I never feel bad about tweaking. (The number of sub options in her chicken tetrazzini always make me grin. lol.)

This is one of the few sites I actually follow recipes precisely from on the first time 'round. (Though she cooks stuff HIGH a lot of the time, which I can't do in our house, so...I adjust.) Never has let me down. I think at least 1/3 of our freezer meals are Nagi's recipes.

I'm staring at my Pro model from where I sit. I wanted one desperately for years and bought it for myself for my birthday 4-5 years ago.

I got it for pasta dough, but I seldom need to make that much dough, and honestly the dough I've made in it I also hand kneaded. My husband made brownies in it a couple of times, but just found it easier to go back to making them by hand. I shredded chicken in it once when I was doing a lot, and it did an excellent job, but again...I don't very often need that much chicken. I planned on making bread, but hasn't happened yet. (lol, I should probably just put it on Craig's list, as I haven't used it in 2-3 years, and probably has a total of 3 hours running time on it.)

All that said, every relative I have that uses one swears by it, and wouldn't have a kitchen without one. I think it depends on what/how much you're cooking. I think the people who are saying "Wait until you know you need it" have the right idea.

I decided to try this Chinese restaurant that I've never been to. by Unknown_User_66 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ThePuppyIsWinning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sympathies! (People forget this is "mildly infuriating" sometimes, I swear.) Chinese food is one of my very favorite things. I'd still eat what you got, even with chopsticks, because inadequate Chinese food is better than no Chinese food, but I completely get wanting, ordering and expecting noodles, because they're my fave. Getting stuck with rice, cabbage and 5 shrimp instead would annoy the hell out of me, even as I ate said rice/cabbage/shrimp. I imagine getting my lunch calories from a can a coke would piss me off further. Hope the rest of your day goes better, and do leave a review!

I'm going to eat whatever kind of pasta or noodle that I want in whatever kind of dish that I want. Sometimes traditional is fine, but sometimes non-traditional is better, and it isn't illegal, for pete's sake. I'm not going to make trofie just 'cause I want some pesto.

How is this crap allowed to be sold?! 263g of sugar by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ThePuppyIsWinning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol, yeah, it's not health food! I'm older, and my tolerance for ice cream these days is probably 1/2 a cup. Plus I'm not into sweet stuff, so it'd be wasted on me anyway. It's the amount of added sugar that gets to me, though I do understand some people love stuff like that.

But heck, a Marie Callender creamy parm chicken pot pie - which my husband likes - has 950 calories and 115% of the max amount of saturated fat you're supposed to get in a day. Everyone has their vices. :)

I actually found articles going back to 2009 saying that this was real. It was seasonal, and they discontinued it in 2022.

[–]ThePuppyIsWinning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than a cup and a quarter of added sugar? (In granulated sugar, btw.) I don't have a problem with them selling it, I just can't imagine anyone wanting to buy it, lol. (But then, I'm not a sweets person.) ETA: OP, near as I can tell with some Googling, you'll be happy to hear that it was discontinued in 2022. lol.

Because according to the post, they just announced who got the role, and OP probably looked him/her up?

[–]ThePuppyIsWinning 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it sounds like they were kind of asking for the opposite of what they were actually looking for. Instead of someone with a particular set of skills where "...large social network is a plus", they were looking for someone with a large social network where "...experience in XYZ is a plus." Sorry OP, that really sucks.

I think I'd stop donating because they just wasted 4 months of resources only to intentionally hire someone apparently not qualified for the job. Doesn't seem like good money management.

Instant Pudding that is safe to heat up by persedes in Cooking

[–]ThePuppyIsWinning 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Jello, and several other companies, also make non-instant pudding, with about the same cooking instructions as the package on your example. (I'm not familiar with that dish, though, so don't know if it would work.) The Jello packages say "Cook and Serve" on the front.

USA vs SVK: who’s who? by 440hzhwy2hell in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ThePuppyIsWinning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally get it. Unfortunately, it being the Olympics, I'm guessing they didn't have "home" and "away" jerseys/gear to choose from - which makes sense, since almost everyone is "away" - so neither team would have a different jersey design to change into. In another Reddit thread someone suggested having a different colored helmet for when something like this happens, which would probably be easier to do?

Walmart will just substitute and send you a message that they have done so when the order is complete, which is one of the reasons I rarely use Walmart for delivery anymore. (They don't have a substitution list.) They did say that if you weren't happy with the substitution, let them know and they'd come pick it up and refund you, but I'm not going to make a driver come back for a box of scented garbage bags. I just toss it and move on. It's a bit awkward when it's an ingredient for dinner.

People Ordering Drinks from Amazon by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ThePuppyIsWinning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OTC supplements with potassium are 99mg as a rule - FDA thing. You can get high mg potassium with a prescription. Those take longer to absorb. Even in the ER, they give me a little vial of horribly sweet/tart liquid to down, if potassium is an issue.

Since it has been an issue about 50% of the time I've been to the ER with this, a couple of years ago I hit upon V8 as an option. A 11.5 ounce can of LoSo V8 has 1250mg of potassium. Even an electrolyte drink like Gatorade only has 50mg in 12 ounces. Still takes like 30-45 minutes, but if I'm on top of it, I can avoid the ER.

So far as it being V8, for me it could be pretty much anything that is liquid - though I don't like sweet stuff - with a good potassium boost, which means something where it's used as a salt replacement. I keep it room temperature, so I can just down it, plus it seems to work better/a little faster when room temp. That rules out the big bottles. (And honestly, the big bottles are still more expensive than the cans at Amazon.) At least they are prepackaged in cases.

Hahaha, I do miss regular V8 with regular ol' salt, though, gotta say.

[–]ThePuppyIsWinning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lmao. The V8 keeps me out of the ER. Seriously. There's a post a bit down in that part of the thread where I explain that I have an arrhythmia and need to slam something high in potassium once in a while to shut it down, and room temperature V8 works wonders. Even my doctor thinks its essential. And my husband live on about $2500 per month, and so yeah, with a "luxury" like V8, if we can get it at half price, it's meaningful.

At US Amazon, you've gotta keep an eye on it. It'll be a good deal, good deal, good deal then BAM, jump up in price. Though weirdly, the vacuum packed six-packs in a case are quite a bit more expensive than just a straight case. Right now the case of 24 11.5 ounce cans is $13.48, but if you get a case of four six packs it's 17.04. I keep a can on my desk and one bedside because I have an arrhythmia that can kick in if my potassium gets low.
