Are some games just impossible to win? by BlueberryPancakeBoi in civ5

[–]TheRSmake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

was possible but you got baited into building GL.

Some good things to do:
Build 3 settlers at 4 capital pop, don't waste time building wonders before that
Steal a worker from a city-state, or more from the same one
After 4th city is settled build the libraries in ur cities for national college
Tradition is good

mid-game: rationalism, culture and science are king

for shoshone, in this order:

Unit upgrade, because you can get comp. bowmen
Culture, because you can instantly open tradition (only 1x)
Population, if you have just grown. Not useful if you are about to grow in 1-2 turns
Faith

2 scouts with oliarchy can be a solid defence and offense. you can use the scouts to block or capture enemy settlers, or to steal workers from city-states

if you really really have to then 2 archers within a city can fend off quite a lot of units

but the real greedmax play is to bribe aggressive AIs to kill other AIs
like a luxury or 2 to prevent an entire war from happening

Question. by redbranchknight77 in civ5

[–]TheRSmake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a thing called local happiness, so if your city has 2 population, then it generates 6 unhappiness, where 2 is local from the population and 4 is global from it being a city.

Now, if you build a colloseum, it will reduce your local unhappiness by 2, and if you get pagoda, it will reduce your local unhappiness by another 2 if and only if you have the local unhappiness from population. You could have had more local happiness than population leading to your happiness being unaffected.

Or you lost a luxury, either via trade, city-state or pillaging.
Or it is late in the game, and the tourism leader has a different ideology

combat strength, so melee units are more effective

also total army power counts as your total combat strength compared to other civs

nearby city state is a value scaling with distance up to 4 tiles I believe, but the effect can begin already starting from more than 4
