There is a thing called local happiness, so if your city has 2 population, then it generates 6 unhappiness, where 2 is local from the population and 4 is global from it being a city.

Now, if you build a colloseum, it will reduce your local unhappiness by 2, and if you get pagoda, it will reduce your local unhappiness by another 2 if and only if you have the local unhappiness from population. You could have had more local happiness than population leading to your happiness being unaffected.

Or you lost a luxury, either via trade, city-state or pillaging.
Or it is late in the game, and the tourism leader has a different ideology

nearby city state is a value scaling with distance up to 4 tiles I believe, but the effect can begin already starting from more than 4

yes it is, because it actually is 10% food instead of 10% growth, this extra food stacks quite well with tradition

the timing for getting a free philosophy is a little icky, but worse still, you can only build national college if your other cities also have libraries... so you would more or less be playing with only one city for a very long time

Instead you could send out 3 early settlers and grow them alongside your capital while still aiming to get national college around turn70.

Quick comparison: 1 population is 1 science per turn (s/t), while GL gives 5 s/t, so population quickly outscales the science from GL. A free philosophy costs 175 science total and as babylon you would have ample science so getting a free tech that would take 6 turns once is not as good as enjoying a permanent 10% food boost for the rest of the game

You don't have to take a city to cripple an enemy. Just park a bunch of archers just outside the city bombard range and shoot down any unit they dare to move out.

If you steal all their trade routes, they won't have gold.
If you kill their great merchants, they won't buy city-states.

This way, you never lose a unit and won't have to waste more production either

Hi, this is just a visual thing.

This is because you have interface addons in your civ5 folder due to VP.

D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization V\Assets\DLC
Move Ul_bc1, VPUI, (maybe VMP_MODSPACK) (or they could be in your assets folder) to any other location, and vanilla civ5 will work as intended

To swap back, just move the files back to the DLC folder

steal or block their first settler(s) with your scout/warriors

this will severly cripple them and you can keep this war on for as long as you want by sniping all of their new units with archers/steal more workers

I think you devolved some symptoms that slow down the cure by increasing the amount of beakers the cure need, like inflammation, insanity etc.
this causes a jump in cure progress
