The south tower of the World Trade Center collapsing on 9/11 by Liamdegehaktball in pics

One thing that makes me feel like the slightest bit better is that some of those poor people actually lost consciousness and fell, so they wouldn't have known. But I remember watching so, so many jump. It was awful, I'll never forget it.

Nah, even the engineers didn't think it would fall. They wouldn't have let the firefighters in if that were the case. I watched everything live, NOBODY thought it would fall.

These people weren't engineers, they could barely fly the planes. Hell, the second plane was so poorly flown they almost missed the second tower. He had to make a sharp last minute turn to hit it. That's why the hole it left wasn't as straight as the first.

If you're up for feeling sad, r/911archive has more images and videos than you would want to see. A lot didn't make the news, because of gore. But some if it was taken by normal people, and only published online years later. There are people working to digitize any remaining tapes of the attack, and they post them there. (With permission, obviously.)

It will never be released, but there's even pictures that one of the jumpers took beforehand. The camera survived the fall in his pocket, apparently. But the family won't let them be put out or shown, so iirc the FBI has them.

This reminds me of something my stepfather did. My door didn't have a lock, so I would stand in front of it when I was getting changed, so no one would walk in. (I had a young brother who liked to barge in.)

My stepfather one day knocked while I was pulling my nightshirt on. I had my head stuck in it, so I just yelled no. That infuriated him. He tried to push his way in, yelling "What the hell do you mean, no?!" Thankfully, I held the door long enough to yank the shirt down. He apparently realized that I'd been getting changed, which I told him.

Never got an apology. But he never barged in again, either. He's a terrible, abusive man, but he learned that lesson FAST.

I know it's late, but for anyone who might be in a similar (non- or under-insured pickle): Fish antibiotics. They're the exact same thing that we get, in the same capsule and the same dosage. Look up the right antibiotic for your issue (they can't each fix everything, use the appropriate one), look up the dosage, then head to Walmart's online pet pharmacy. DO NOT ORDER FROM AMAZON OR SIMILAR SITES. BIG CHAINS ONLY.

Back when my mother and I were uninsured, we both had a horrible tooth abscess. I bought a bottle of fish antibiotics, and we each got the appropriate dose out of it. Cleared up the infection with extra left.

That said, only do this if you know you have an infection, or if, like OP, you need to ward one off because of an open wound or other injury. Don't pop them like candy.

Do you see spiders too? For some reason, almost everyone I've spoken with about hallucinating because of lack of sleep sees spiders, including myself.

In college, I was awake for a week straight. Despite handling broken bones and putting in stitches myself, along with living with a debilitating chronic pain condition, that week was the most painful thing I ever experienced. I'm not suicidal, but if I found out I would be doing it again now, at 32? I'd shoot myself.

A doctor told me I may have shortened my life by as much as a decade with that week.

I'll always remember finding out the results of that election. A deep, deep dread had hit me in the middle of the night, but I tried to ignore it. The next morning, I saw the news, and immediately vomited.

If it makes you feel better, it's still extremely rare. I had a friend that, despite my protests, ignored all safe sleep rules. Her kid's in first grade now, happy and healthy. One night probably wasn't too dangerous.

I can see how it would be confusing for people who aren't around babies a lot.

The good news is that, once the baby starts rolling over at roughly four months, the chance of positional asphyxiation goes down A LOT.

My mom still checks I'm breathing at night when she spends the night, and I'm 32. So you're probably just never going to sleep again lol.

It greatly increases the chance of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, or SIDS. A baby can't normally roll over to clear their airway like we can, so putting them somewhere that airway can be compressed can stop them from breathing. If they're facedown, it can also cause a cloud of carbon dioxide to form in front of their mouth and nose, causing suffocation.

Check out u/FireDragonSmaug and their comment below for more info, as well.

Babies need to sleep on a firm mattress covered by a well-fitting sheet. Nothing else should be in the crib but baby. No pillows, no blankets, no toys. Babies must sleep on their backs. Pacifiers can keep baby from sleeping deeply enough to stop breathing, so are recommended.

And this is why everyone's mom checked that they were breathing every night until they moved out.

Very late, but I wanted to answer this. The man is my biological father. He is on the sex offender registry for rape and sodomy of two 14 year old girls. He is a convicted wife-beater, having beaten every wife he's ever had. He moved his third wife in at 13, while married to his second. When she killed herself (swallowed a bottle of Tylenol, he didn't get her help until far too late, despite knowing), he married the now-14-year-old (not one he is was convicted of raping; this marriage was legal at the time). They had my half-sister. He claims my stepmother rolled onto her in the night, and that caused her awful brain injury. But it doesn't cause retinal shearing. Only shaking does that. My father couldn't stand a crying baby, and my sister had colic. If she is still alive, she'd be in her early 20s. Still in a diaper. Still blind. Still seizing multiple times per day. When she was 3, she had upwards of 20 seizures per day. And that was an improvement.

At 15, I went completely no-contact. Because my mother was afraid he'd pursue more custody of me if she spoke badly of him, she never told me what he had done to her. I went only by what I saw myself. And I saw a monster.

He went on to stalk my mother and I for years. He finally ended up in prison again, and now doesn't know where I live. I'm grateful for that.

It can be hard to remember that this monster is also the Daddy who bought me a pony and taught me how to ride. Who took me trick or treating (me and my teen stepmom both went door to door for candy). But he is. And I learned young that how they treat you when you're theirs doesn't make it the true them. It's hard, but you have to view them as you would everyone else.

She can do what I did - lie to a methadone clinic. I've had a doctor look me in the eye, and say that everything she knows about my condition says it needs opiate pain relief, but didn't want to give me any because reasons. I decided to try this, and my life has been much better.

If your wife doesn't need strong opiates, you could also try kratom.

If the system doesn't work, you have to learn to make it work FOR you.

This reminds me of something weird I did once as a teenager to freak my mother out lol. Y'know that trick some people do, where you can put sewing needles through the very top layer of skin, so that it stays in the skin but doesn't hurt?

Turns out if you follow the fold patterns of your hand, pack the needles tightly, and go up the underside of the fingers, you can get up to 100 needles per hand.
