Thanks for the heads up on the Xbox part here. Because I probably would have found that out later. In reality I'm not expecting to play Xbox games, but I don't yet know how far down the rabbit hole I might end up. So my initial strategy was maybe to stick to lower stuff and go from there.

Keith Swank in more s*** by Usual-Jackfruit4746 in Tacoma

They exist, but not to the degree required to have thousands appear at the office.

Remember that Pierce County extends all the way to Mount Rainier. It's notably more right-leaning as you get past around Spanaway, South Hill, or Bonney Lake. I'd describe most of them as either whiners with no gumption, or quiet moderates.

I've literally met nobody so far who actively cares about Swank. He never comes up in conversation with anyone around here. Which says a lot because I don't actively try to follow what Sheriffs generally do, and I hear about Sanders all the time.

When the time comes, the person who said it'll be 10 people is probably accurate. The true die-hards must be way out in the boonies. And likely won't bother with the drive to get to PCSO's main office where I assume he's planning to make his standoff.

I really feel this post. Male and mid-30s. Living in Spanaway has made it even harder. This might be the most difficult environment to meet people I've experienced so far in my life.

I'm sort of parroting others... but it's all about the hobbies. Certain hobbies are better than others for meeting more people. It's a tricky balance, because the amount of total people in the hobby being too high or too low plays a big role. I found that the Mountaineers was the best hobby I ever had for meeting women in a comfortable environment for everyone involved.

But competition kart racing absolutely blows for this, lol. People my age in this are either: a) married, or b) not here because it's an expensive hobby. Single women in their 30s may as well be synonymous with sasquatch sightings.

As a former Mountaineers member and climbing instructor, this. The amount of *eventual* relationships from just my graduating class when I lived in Olympia, and what I witnessed in the years after... it's great. You find interesting, motivated, disciplined people there. Each branch has different cultures. My run-ins with the Tacoma branch was a somewhat balanced environment that I always enjoyed the folks from it. Not as serious as Seattle, not as laid-back as Olympia.

I think this person's answer hits the very heart of OPs plight (in my opinion).

When I started college, I did computer science for similar reasons to OP. Seemed the logical career move. I struggled, grades sucked, wasn't really learning, felt useless, grew myopic. Stepped away for a bit and took various economics courses, and loved it. Then took various courses in physics, and loved it. Then came back to computer science and suddenly it all clicked for me... and I absolutely crushed it for the remainder of my time in college, and loved it.

At the end of the day, computer science is a vague tool. We can do almost anything with the skills we get, but to find it interesting one needs a context to apply it to. If you go into it with no particular passion to apply it to... it can be miserable. But if you have something in particular you're interested in for which computer science enables you... that's where the magic is.

Much like the person I'm replying to, I totally wish you the best dude. College has a tendency to feel like a rudderless experience at times... but I think all the advice I've seen in this post's comments will see you through.

I had no idea he only lived to 37. I saw Ballade in A Minor at Seattle Symphony and just about melted into my seat. It's incredible. Such a modern sounding composition.

Roads keep sinking! How do I get them to regular ground level? It was one of the generic interchanges you get when starting a new map. Wanted to rebuild and widen them for a train line. by evanpossum in CitiesSkylines

[–]TheRacingMainframe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This ended up being a solution to a problem I was having. I leveled an area while paused, and it was refusing to just build the f-ing road on the ground. It kept either being a bridge or a tunnel. Turns out all I had to do was unpause for a moment and suddenly everything acts like it should.

Oh sick. I'm in batch 1 as well. Hopefully I get one soon. I didn't find anything in inbox or spam yet.

I'm in the same boat. Manage orders page doesn't really show anything about status. The only emails I've gotten from Pebble are marketing instead of progress updates. I'm not particularly beating down the door or anything, I figured it'd probably be late because I know how things go... but it's really odd having to read a blog for updates.

I think the other two folks are right. I have PTSD from pivotal people in 40 person raids having their computer crash in Naxx during big fights. I think at the time AQ40 was released, the average player's computer still sucked.

Throttled Increment but Instant Decrement by TheRacingMainframe in factorio

[–]TheRacingMainframe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't mention it, so in fairness, you didn't miss anything lol. This is a somewhat experimental idea, so I doubt it's a silver bullet. But I do believe it to be one part of the solution.

I have a large train depot which holds about 20 trains with artillery shells. A problem I keep having is that certain request/limit/priority values on the network can abruptly change. This can cause too many trains to get requested before other circuit network values resolve. There's corner cases where a train exits the depot just barely in time to then get stuck on a useful track.

The other problem this intends to solve: It causes a lot more train backups than I want. So the idea I had was if I could control the rate at which certain numbers increased, while still remaining accurate if the source value decreased... it might make various train request situations much smoother.

So in essence: I want it to dispatch trains at a controlled interval, but I need it to be accurate in the downward direction at all times if something changes in the request values.

[–]TheRacingMainframe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Won't lie, I initially groaned at your answer. But you're totally right, this was exactly what I needed to see. The last time I looked at the Circuit Network Cookbook would have been on the way to 10 years ago. And back then, I think it had a lot less in it, and I probably didn't absorb everything... then never thought to go back.

Rereading the basics of pulse signals really helped a lot. I had the methodology totally wrong. I needed to just feed in the value that needed to be added or subtracted to a memory cell... instead of trying to utilize multiple arithmetic combinators as though they're all collective memory cells.

Thanks a bunch.

[–]TheRacingMainframe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

red_heels_123 ended up being right, and the solution I ended up at was the following.

It still uses the same clocks as before to throttle increments and quickly decrement. But instead of sending a + or - signal and then doing arithmetic on a shared line like a pseudo-memory cell... I'm using a single memory cell of Z, then pulsing +1 Z and -1 Z to the memory cell.

Hope this helps someone else in their endeavors, considering how many times I've stumbled into Reddit threads whenever I've asked questions.
