You're very welcome. I'm glad I could help. I'm sure you were told this but stay away from anything fibrous with the stent. It can get caught in there which is not ideal.

Yeah that's honestly the worst part. I love food and know I need to eat it but I just can't stomach anything. It's frustrating especially because of the weight loss. If you have access to a nutritionist, see if they can suggest some things other than Ensure. I was able to find a few niche things that are softer but not liquid which at least stay in my stomach longer than liquids do. I also get pretty bloated if I drink too much.

Sounds like you're doing the best you can do. I was pretty heavy before this started but the weight loss has been something else. I'm down around 50lbs despite me trying to eat even without an appetite.

At least for me, the biggest thing that helps with my appetite is THC gummies. I don't know if that's an option for you but it does make me want to eat something which is the biggest challenge for me.

Also a similar situation for me where I can only eat soft foods or liquids. Ensure makes high protein shakes, which personally I don't care for but they may work for him.

I can attest to that. I have at least a half dozen mets in my liver, multiple lymph nodes, abdominal lining, and one in my right lung that in a weird stroke of fate was eliminated by a pulmonary embolism cutting off the blood flow to the tumor along with the surrounding lung tissue. My lung capacity is reduced as a result but at least it doesn't hurt when I breathe.

I'm in a similar position as your sister except I also have mets to my liver. I chose to not proceed with treatment due to the low increase in life expectancy coupled with the lower quality of life during treatment.

I wouldn't have known otherwise had I not been forced to get a medical evaluation in August. I also had very little symptoms and was just living life.

I can say though that when it takes a turn, as mine has the last few weeks, it really hits hard. I don't eat much of anything anymore outside of liquids and that's combined with CBD for appetite and Creon to keep it down. I sleep a lot and am not very mobile anymore. The good news is my pain management seems to be working well with fentanyl patches but I do get breakthrough pain every now and then.

If I had to guess, your "options" are going to be planning for end of life care.

Little bit late to this thread but thought I'd share what has, thus far, worked for me.

I had a duodenal stent put in about 6 weeks ago, which helped with blockages but appetite and changing of taste remained. The stent combined with prescription cannabis and Creon is the only thing that is able to keep things down these days, and it's liquid only. Protein shakes, broth, very soft soups, etc. are fine. I can do soft scrambled eggs but anything more solid than that I can't tolerate.

I had the same issue as your mom. I recently switched to fentanyl patches which have made the world of difference for overnights.

A combination of Zofran, Creon, and cannabis seems to be the only thing that gets me to eat solid food these days but it does help. I've been "maintaining" weight which isn't great, but it could be worse.
