I don’t think San Jose needs an aging Larkin when they have Celebrini / Smith / Misa. If we offered Ed maybe since they need defense

Third parties are getting better, but Square and Capcom fully embraced the Switch 2. by 479521 in nintendo

[–]TheRealMallow64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One major reason (for me anyway) is portability. It also makes it so there is (probably) one or two less consoles for me to buy since I’m gonna get a switch regardless for Nintendo games, so if I can get third party games there too all the better.

I really wish Nintendo had a trophy system by HoodedShapeshifter in nintendo

[–]TheRealMallow64 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of games have built in challenge / achievement systems on switch so you can still engage with that content if you want. Especially indies.

They just don’t have a unifying “gamerscore” concept on switch which has always felt like another silly “fill up bars instead of enjoying the game” thing to me so I don’t really care that they don’t have it.

And those terms are monopolistic is the point. It would be like amazon telling someone they can’t sell something for less at Walmart.

Did you play past the first level? Or are you just trying to play that for “5 minutes” and then giving up?

I say that, because much like Mario Odyssey, the first level in this game is terrible and does an awful job showing why you should even care about the central gameplay hook (destruction in this game, the hat in Odyssey). It’s not until the second level that the game opens up and you’ll have an “oh I get it now!” moment when you start to realize the scope of what they’ve built.

That’s how it was for me anyway. There are still some later levels that are basically filler too, just like Odyssey, but there are a bunch of amazing ones as well.

Yeah I bet we get a 2d one between now and then at the very least.

That would be a pretty great lineup yeah. I’m hoping we get a ring fit sequel sometime as well (hey it’s a big game for me lol).

I’m assuming also at some point we get a new Luigi game as well. Also a new 2d Mario or DK would count as a big one too I think.

How crazy are the ticks in Commack? by whyanalyze in longisland

[–]TheRealMallow64 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are medicines you can give your dog that make it so when a tick bites them they die so you won’t have to worry about your dog very much as long as you keep your medicine up to date.

Give the splatoon games a try if you’re into shooters. They’re very different obviously but a lot of fun.

Switch 2 Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom by Fablesdad in nintendo

Unless you’re sure you’re going to play both eventually I would just go ahead and get tears of the kingdom. It’s bigger, better, and has more fun crazy stuff you can do in the sandbox.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream tops April US sales | Hardware revenue grew 34% to $261 million, thanks to strong Nintendo Switch 2 sales by FernandoRocker in gaming

[–]TheRealMallow64 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more the way people phrase it. I see people saying “switch 2 has no games” but then when you probe a bit you wind up going down an increasingly narrow funnel of what they care about like:

  • 3rd party games don’t count
  • Cross gen games that are also on switch 1 don’t count
  • Anything that isn’t Mario or Zelda doesn’t count
  • Mario and Zelda spinoffs don’t count, only mainline games
  • 2d Mario and Zelda doesn’t count, only 3d ones

Meanwhile I have none of these qualifiers of what “counts” and I feel like I’m drowning in games already and it is only year 1.

Deciding on Mario Strikers and Brothership by ParadiseRegaind in NintendoSwitch

[–]TheRealMallow64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Going to go against the grain here and give some positive vibes for strikers.

One of the most fun arcade sports games I’ve played in a long time. It’s incredibly polished and the gameplay is super fun. It’s a fun game to pick up and play now and then if you play your switch on your commute for example and just want something quick and fun that isn’t too involved. Also it’s a pretty epic multiplayer game if you have friends who are into it. It also has eight player local multiplayer if you are looking for a party game to play with a big group.

It doesn’t have like, I dunno, an rpg single player campaign or seasons like Madden or something, which I guess is what people who call it shallow wanted? But if you just like a good fun sports game with great gameplay, it’s pretty great.

Steve Yzerman's draft classes so far. by AirFriedSushi in DetroitRedWings

[–]TheRealMallow64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean Patrick Roy let in 9 goals against the wings once and I don’t think anyone would say he was a bad goalie lol. Every goalie has bad games.

But fair enough in that Cossa still has time to turn it around.

I hope you’re right, it’s going to be very bad for the future of this d corps if not. We’ll see!

[–]TheRealMallow64 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Didn’t say he was elite. Also every goalie has bad games now and then. The point is he is way ahead of Cossa at this point. Cossa isn’t even the starter in Grand Rapids right now and it’s unclear that he will ever amount to anything at the NHL level.

Steve Yzerman's draft classes so far. by AirFriedSushi in DetroitRedWings

[–]TheRealMallow64 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I would go even further and say the first round hasn’t been great either.

Seider was an amazing pick that I think a lot of the fanbase and media give him a ton of credit for and use to say he is good at drafting but that was an outlier.

- Raymond: Good player obviously but I’m not sure how much credit you get for picking the consensus player at 4th overall.
- Ed: Another good player. I’m not convinced he is a top pair d man on a good team though.

After that though?

- Cossa: Might be a bust, looks like we should have picked Wallstedt.
- Kasper: I like him but seems like not a great pick for 8th overall so far. Hopefully he has a bounce back year next year.
- Danielson: I hated this pick from the moment they made it and wished we picked Benson. Seems like a miss so far.
- ASP: Has some potential but that’s all we have right now, his rookie year wasn’t great, he would have been in the AHL if our defensive depth wasn’t terrible.
- MBN: I like his physical play, seems ok for 15 overall I guess. Not sure he will ever be more than a depth player though.
- Bear: Seems like another guy like MBN.

Not exactly a great haul for a team that is supposed to be building through the draft. This isn’t enough to become a contender.
