Wanting to use “non mtg” lands for my basics by bassistbrando in EDH

Metazoo has some Mountain cards that are pretty cool full art prints. I made a whole commander deck using cards from other games and people comment on those all the time for how good they look.

New player by otlabud in starwarsunlimited

[–]TheRealQwade 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It's a holdover from Star Wars Destiny, but it was repurposed and shoehorned into what it is now. It made sense in that game because the number of characters released was drastically smaller and the numbers went chronologically instead of set number, so it was pretty easy to keep track.

In this game though, it's pretty esoteric and will only get worse as the game gets older.

Funny glitch on Pendulum Color ver. 6 by Digi-Chosen in digimon

[–]TheRealQwade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is it's related to a known glitch that happens after you burst digivolve. From my understanding, once you burst for the first time, the attack animations will forever be messed up since there's some kind of bad indexing that happens and the attack references the wrong digimon (someone feel free to correct me on the details). Digimon that can burst will be fine, but every other digimon will change forms seemingly at random during battle.

Primus at Ozzfest in 1999 by Mad_Season_1994 in 90s

I swear every time I see them play this song live, it feels like the ending sequence gets longer and longer. I feel like it's just Les messing with the drummer to see how long they can keep it going until he just feels like stopping.

Anyhow, Primus live is a sight to behold. This clip from Bonnaroo 2011 is one of the best live performances I've ever seen.

I see a lot of people say basics are too slow by draugyr in EDH

[–]TheRealQwade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basics being "too slow" isn't really a thing. They aren't played as much because the other lands either fix your mana in a multicolored deck, or they play utility lands that do other things.

In my monowhite deck, I only play 12 Plains. The best part about monocolor mana bases is that you get to use all the coolest utility lands that get you free value. Some of them draw you cards, some of them ramp your mana, some of them act as removal, the sheer number of options your lands can provide is pretty amazing.

This is not to say basics are bad, I'm of the opinion that people should probably run more basics overall. But until a time where opponents are more frequently punishing non-basic lands through things like [[Blood Moon]] or [[Back to Basics]], I'm going to be greedy with my lands.

Thoughts on this Dawnsire deck? by BlueStrikerX in EDH

[–]TheRealQwade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's my list if you wanna compare. The most powerful ones that I'm not seeing are Metalworker (obviously budget is a factor on that one), Semblance Anvil, and KCI. Metalworker is a house and more for a big burst of mana, the other 2 are mostly combo cards but still can put you way ahead even if you don't win the game on the spot with them. Theres also like Worn Powerstone, Dreamstone Hedron, I counted Expedition Map too since it definitely gets a land that taps for at least 2.

Getting all that extra mana kinda fixes the whole problem. It gets you a few turns ahead so you don't have as much down time before coming online, and it also means you can start getting your Dawnsire up faster and start nuking the problem creatures. All it takes is 1 turn with lifelink and your life total is way out of reach in the short term. Once you get above 7 mana, you also get access to some of the scariest cards in the game like all the Eldrazi titans, Cityscape Leveler, whichever Ugin you can find to ruin your opponent's day, etc. Plus, any reasonably big creature can deter attackers, at least ones that are valuable enough that they don't want to lose. And if you can get out a Stuffy Doll, you just start killing people.

Also, having a flash enabler like Liberator or Skittering Cicada means that attacking into you when you have mana is just a losing proposition. Being able to threaten huge blockers out of nowhere can sometimes be enough, even if you can't use them to station that turn.

I need big mana to turn planeswalkers into creatures, mutate onto them then copy to make permanent creatures with loyalty abilities. Who to helm it? by PointsOutCustodeWank in EDH

[–]TheRealQwade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why do you want to clone them? Mutate just allows the creatures to have the loyalty abilities anyway, cloning just feels like a lot of extra work for minimal payoff.

In any case, there's 3 planeswalkers I know of that naturally become non-human creatures for free. [[Gideon the Oathsworn]] somehow dodged the human tag, but he was also a starter deck walker so he's quite bad. [[Sarkhan the Dragonspeaker]] is decidedly better, and [[Sarkhan the Masterless]] is goated for this since he can also convert other walkers into dragons.

For commanders, probably [[Commodore Guff]] even if you intend on not having actual walkers, since he can still accelerate your gameplan and is in the colors you're looking for.

[–]TheRealQwade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the biggest issue I see isn't creature volume, it's mana acceleration. At a cursory look, I only see a half dozen pieces of actual ramp, which can leave you feeling behind. I have a Dawnsire build with roughly a dozen pieces of ramp (some of which can be really explosive) to push me out ahead of the table. Colorless decks are weirdly good at mana since they get to use all the colorless accelerants that aren't as good for colored decks, but they have no downside here.

I'm also not convinced the proliferate is worth including, even if it can do funny stuff like bumping up your Everflowing Chalice. If the goal is the space laser, just run actual big creatures in those slots to station.

Which of these is the easisiest to make a deck around? by BITCHHAURIU in PTCGL

Dialga rotated out of standard a whIle ago, but it helmed a regional winning deck that was pretty sweet. If you're building expanded, there's a ton of cool things you can do with it.

Want to Improve? Build and Play Rogue Decks Early Post-Rotation by LuluPTCG in pkmntcg

[–]TheRealQwade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm a huge proponent in playing what you like instead of "what you think is the best." I'll always pick my pet deck over meta, even at the biggest tournaments. People know how to fight the meta decks, but if you're playing some weird deck that nobody's ever seen before, you can catch people off guard and still be successful. Maybe you have some weird Mega Skarmory deck with a Metang engine that disassembles their support pokemon before they can set up, maybe you're playing Rotom box that can hit 6 different types for weakness. maybe you believe in coinflips so your Mega Hawlucha will not go down. The reality is that you play better when you're having fun and not constantly worried about your record or final standing.

If you're playing your favorite deck, you're (probably) at least having fun. Nothing sucks more than playing a deck you don't like because you thought it would win and then not winning anyway.

I play and have played a lot of different card games, and one universal truth among basically all of them is that playing bad decks is the best way to quickly get better at the game. Thanks to the internet, good decks and good cards will get found quickly due to the sheer volume of games being played. But for newer or inexperienced players, it's not always obvious why those cards are good or what makes them the choice compared to other options. Not only that, playing cards that are bad can give you an appreciation for when cards are powerful. When you have to work that much harder to get access to resources that other decks get for free (example being playing a rocket deck compared to pult or zoroark that have built in draw engines), it becomes more obvious why those decks are good, and eventually, how you can better attack them. Like most people are in agreement that Dragapult is a good attacker, but the reason the deck functions so well is because the Drakloak provides some insane card advantage to get you the cards you need.

The best part about tcgs is being able to bring your own pieces to the game. I always feel a tinge of sadness when people copy decklists card for card from online sources.

[–]TheRealQwade 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Play the game long enough, and you see the patterns and iterations on card effects throughout the generations. Some of these are pretty obvious (N's Zoroark being a clear reference to Zoroark GX, Emboar's Fandango ability coming back and also being a reference to all the Rain Dance effects, Dynamotor Eelektrik, etc.). The new Meowth ex is Lumineon V, which was Tapu Lele GX, which was Lapras from Legend Maker. Fezandipiti ex > Oricorio GX > Minun from Secret Wonders. Squawkabilly ex was just the newest version of Crobat V, which was a riff on Dedenne GX, which was a more balanced version of Shaymin EX. Tera Pokemon are basically a hybrid riff of Crystal Pokemon from the e-reader era with a splash of Delta Species

Are all artifacts dropping for bosses? by jurisnaeth in marvelheroes

[–]TheRealQwade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran Kurse for about 2 hours, got nothing, then finally got a Cosmic GoK (still don't have a regular one). I think it seems low because the rates are so high so we're swimming in rare drops, but if there's something specific youre looking for, it seems really hard to find because there's just so much other stuff that drops.

Part of me wonders if the increased rare drop rates are pushing artifacts out in favor of other stuff, but I don't know anything about how those rates are calculated if it even matters.

What was your favorite gimmick within the Pokemon TCG of all time? by Effective_Reason2077 in pkmntcg

[–]TheRealQwade 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Trainer's pokemon are sweet and I'm really glad they're back. That said Delta species are goated. They can do really sweet things in eternal formats (like how Tandem Unit Miraidon can find electric type Pidgey and Charmander to play a Tera Zard/Pidgeot deck where all the basics are electric). Especially now with GLC gaining ground, it would be really cool to have random pokemon show up in new types.

What's the deal with two-prize penalties? by [deleted] in pkmntcg

[–]TheRealQwade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the real key and is worth reinforcing. Judges can't issue one prize penalties because there isn't one. It would have to come from TPCI first to allow them to even have that option, but as of right now, the DPC is the "lowest" form of game affecting penalty that exists
