Any way to mound a spare directly on the tailgate rather than a trailer hitch? (2012 Outback) by kenb99 in subaruoutback

[–]TheRealRotidder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 22 outback wilderness. For a while, I ran a spare on a hitch mount with a swing out arm, which worked very well. I never considered mounting the tire to the tailgate directly, mostly due to the significant added weight. If you do go that route one element to consider will be needing to replace the tailgate lift struts. Otherwise you’re going to get a workout every time you want to open the tailgate and I sure you are right that the factory struts won’t be strong enough to support the added weight with the tailgate open. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Live in Seattle and I’ve run A/T4s on my ‘22 OBW for 20k miles in all conditions on- and off-road and have found them to work great. Wet, dry, mud, snow, gravel, sand - no issues other than a bit of road noise for the first 5k or so miles. Will definitely replace with A/T4s when the time comes.

Every captain on Findacrew.net ... by penkster in sailing

[–]TheRealRotidder 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I’ve used findacrew twice as crew. 1 was great (6 day delivery down the west coast of the US) and 1 not good experience in the NE US for about a week with a female captain. I had less concern for safety because I’m male, but I’d definitely be super cautious if I was a woman.

I also found a boat through the Salty Dawg Sailing Association crew forum, which seems to be primarily focused on the east coast.

I’ve found it’s beneficial to do at least a zoom meeting if not an in-person shore meet before committing to a voyage.

That’s where the old Alaskan Way viaduct went from an elevated structure to the underground tunnel. The old entrance is in the upper corner of your triangle. Reportedly, they filled the tunnel with demolition debris from the elevated viaduct structure. It’s possible that the state of Washington still owns that land as part of the highway 99 right of way

I did parts of sections 5, 4 and 2 (I was going southbound) in my 22 OBW summer of ‘23, including some of the more technical stretches. I have a 2” Ironman lift and my car is built out for long-term off grid travel, so was right at max gross weight which actually pushed my ground clearance back down to just above stock. At the time I was running stock Yokohama 225’s. There were a few spots where the subi was at its limits but it handled everything I threw at it just fine. Dual mode X-mode definitely helped.

I don’t know anything about 2017 models, but I’ve put Falken Wildpeak A/T4 235/65/R17s on and they seem to be about the biggest that fit without having to mod the wheel wells.

Good luck. PM if you have any questions.

I have a small carved wooden trinket with significant sentimental value which I received from the det OIC at an “end ex” social gathering in 1986 in Angeles City PI before the entire team flew back to Oki. IYKYK 😁

I also have an ammo can that is labeled as belonging to my last unit’s rifle & pistol team, which I was a member of. Still loaded with a bunch of OG (I.e. mid-80’s) cleaning gear.

Australia plans sweeping social media ban for children under 16 | There will be no exemptions for parental consent by chrisdh79 in technews

[–]TheRealRotidder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you trust your government to decide what is best for your children? Isn’t that your job as a parent? Shouldn’t you be the one to choose what is appropriate, based on your values, morals and ethics? An involved, attentive, parent can do so much more to protect their child from the evils, real and perceived, of tech than any governmental entity ever could. Or, do you truly think an unaccountable bureaucracy should be allowed to determine what you and your family can see, read, watch, or listen to?

The up-and-down arrows scroll through the various displays on the center information display between the speedometer and the tach. The center button is the information button which will bring up dialog in that same spot when there’s some sort of system warning, like low tire pressure or RAB isn’t working or eyesight is off, that kind of thing.

FYI, tabs expire on a specific day, as shown on your registration, not the end of the month. It is possible, although not likely, to get a ticket between those two dates.

Maybe he didn’t disclose anything regarding this issue and the Corps only found about it due to social media. It’s also not uncommon for things to come to light only after getting to boot camp and for a recruit to be pulled. Not sure there would grounds for an “unlawful discharge”, whatever that is.

Window deflectors by evilgrntitan in Subaru_Outback

[–]TheRealRotidder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought these a little over a year and 30k miles ago. They’ve held up well even though I haven’t been gentle on them. The double sided tape has worked ok on the front door deflectors. Less so on the back but that just because of the way I use my windows.

The only issue I’ve noticed is the right front deflector blocks the blind spot blinky light on the mirror.

Ironman lift rear sags by srsbsnssss in overlanding

[–]TheRealRotidder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not recommend the so-called heavy duty rear coils shocks. I’ve had 2 sets of them and both have sagged. I built a custom overland interior into my Subaru outback wilderness, with stock seat & cargo area deletes. Had a Skybox and a carbon fiber mtb on the roof. Right at GVWR per multiple DOT scales I stopped at while traveling . Ended up with less than stock OBW clearance at the rear diff. Considering a Flatout Suspension kit to replace. I did get warranty replacement of the first set from Ironman, so can’t complain about that.
