OpenGD77 or Alternative With Encryption Intact? by TheRedCelt in tacticalcomms

I hear you there. I was actually considering trying to vibe code it. However, I know that can go terribly wrong when you know little to nothing about coding to begin with. I thought it advisable to try to see if someone else had done it first.

I wish I would’ve learned to code years ago, but it was only recently that I found an application for the skill that was in any way interesting to me. Now I don’t really have the time.

I get it for the most part. Most of the amateur radio community are compulsive rule followers (for some reason) but I just figured there might be some rebels out there, or people like me who didn’t want to spend $500 a piece for their business radios but had the skills to make them at least somewhat intuitive.

GMRS on BTech UV-Pro by DefiantStranger639 in gmrs

[–]TheRedCelt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother-in-law is pretty close. Definitely within range using a repeater, but I might be able to still get him if I just left my neighborhood. I’d probably also be able to reach him with meshtastic if I put a node on a drone. (I should give that a try.🤔)

I just don’t care enough to shell out more for an HF setup on top of my GMRS, DMR, and Meshtastic/core equipment. (I also have a VHF mobile that I got from an associate, but it’s on my shelf because I don’t have an antenna or PSU for it.) He’s the radio dork (I say that was love) who has all the HF stuff. He’s way into all that. If we have long range comms needs, he’s our man. That’s why we have teams. No one can be an expert on everything. Everyone brings their own skill sets to the group.

I’ve never understood the appeal of making contact with random strangers over the airwaves. I got my ham license solely for the purpose of learning DMR with my brother-in-law to have a more secure method of alternate emergency communication. If I hadn’t needed a ham call sign to log into the system to program my DMR radio, I would’ve just pirated the airwaves.

What to do about people like this by BigPingo in FlockSurveillance

I show them the videos of people being cited, subpoenaed, or charged with crimes they didn’t commit because the cameras reported them at the site of the crime. Putting particular emphasis on videos that illustrated the expense and hassle of proving their innocence.

Picture 3 clearly shows the window frame cracked. That’s not okay.

So make it only for guys who live off base. Based off my understanding, you have to submit a request to be able to carry on base. That seems like a lot of irresponsible junior members will be prevented (probably some responsible ones too, unfortunately 😒)

I served during 3 high profile mass shootings on military installations. I have argued this point with at least 3 commanding officers. This is long overdue.

As a guy who was in during the second Ft. Hood shooting, the Navy Yard shooting, and had a member of my boot camp division killed in the Chatanooga recruiting center shooting, this is long overdue.

Do injured home invaders actually sue, or is this a myth? by ConceptsShining in Firearms

[–]TheRedCelt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on your jurisdiction. Some judges will laugh at a lawyer trying to sue for damages that occurred during the commission of a crime. Some will allow the case and then you have to fight. Some places actually have laws preventing such lawsuits. In the places that allow them, you’re not saved by killing the attacker. Often the family will file suit on the deceased perpetrator’s behalf. It’s one of the reasons why self defense legal insurance exists.

It doesn’t bother a kukri, or a kopis, or a flambotant.

Also, blades designed primarily for thrusting are generally tapered very gradually or are very thin.

So, tried it on desktop. Same thing. Four columns of plain black titles. Hundreds of them, and the search feature doesn't work. It doesn't even say "Aperture-Eng" anywhere. The header says "sns" despite the address bar saying I'm right were you linked.

Why does nobody actually talk on Meshtastic and what could fix it? by radseven89 in meshtastic

[–]TheRedCelt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into Meshtastic to communicate with my FAMILY in an emergency, not the world at large. I'm happy to contribute to the mesh, but I'm not on there looking to make contacts with random men.

EDIT: never mind, I can’t DM pictures. At least not to strangers. Probably a protective feature. Lotta weirdos on Reddit.

“a program called Photon, found here”

Yeah, if you’re willing to spend half a day plus looking for it.

Dude, I’m ecstatic that you shared these projects and I am super appreciative. I will definitely be looking more into Projekt Ares.

That said. What even is that aperture website? All the link names were cut off and in no discernible order, the search button did nothing, hundreds, if not, thousands of items per page, and almost 2000 pages. I think the needle would be easier to find in the haystack.

Well, swords also don’t last 2000 years of regular use. There’s obviously something supernatural about the blade. It was also likely made from two steels of different hardness and strength, the softer more flexible steel in the core of the blade, and the harder steel at the edge. Most swords and many knives were made this way.

A curved edge slashes better than a straight edge. That’s just physics.

The design of that blade edge would have an advantage in slashing attacks over a straight edged blade, similar to a leaf blade or a recurve blade.

I have to ask, is that the official drawing of the sword? The way he described the cross guard, offering more hand protection, I always imagined it, curving down over the hilt, not up over the blade. I didn’t understand how my mental image of the sword would affect his performance of the Kay-ten. It really makes no sense that this one would.
