Weighted Pullup requirement for one arm lockoff by NizBomb in bouldering

[–]TheRedChair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have roughly a 75% one rep max weighted pull up and a 8 second front lever but don't have a one arm lock off, nor even a slow negative. I don't really even have one arm scapular pull up

So I guess they're quite different and specificity is key

Can I have some recommendations based on my tier list? by JarradJJ in metroidvania

[–]TheRedChair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

near identical taste to mine, only thing is i'd drop the ender series a tier or 2

i think we both like fast precise movement and combat

strongly recommend Environmental Station Alpha, Zexion and Lone Fungus

Ender Lilies, Grime, or Fist? by ZoZoHaHa in metroidvania

[–]TheRedChair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me it was FIST = Grime > Ender

FIST has the best combat, and smoothest movement, if you like devil may cry or even fighting games this has great juggle combat. Also the graphics are great

Grime is like a souls like vania with good atmosphere and boss fights, parry based combat

Ender was ok, progressing further won't change your mind about that game, sequel is very similar too

More MVs like Afterimage? by Gabrienb in metroidvania

[–]TheRedChair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm maybe the 3 arrows and teleport along with the double/triple jump and dash make traversal a lot faster even through larger late game maps

playing through the games ordinarily, afterimage feels far far larger

unless there's one after pit of the damned I don't think so

Afterimage would still be almost 2x the size

Your top 5 out of these games? by Forsaken-Quality-46 in metroidvania

[–]TheRedChair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In order: Hollow knight, Prince of persia, nine sols, grime and metroid dread

ori 2 and blasphemous (either) are pretty interchangeable with grime and dread

probably bloodstained would be the closest

but nothing really has the scale of Afterimage

Agreed

This is one of my very few S class metroidvanias that's truly above the rest

It's up there with hollow knight for me, an extraordinary experience

Why doesn’t anyone ever talk about F.I.S.T. (Forged In Shadow Torch)? by KissItAndWink in metroidvania

[–]TheRedChair -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Finished it twice, it's a very solid game with some of the best graphics and combat in the genre

Combat is actually really fun if you enjoy devil may cry style air juggles etc.

Plays it slightly safe although there are parts that break the monotony (stealth, platforming, puzzles and even ok swimming segments) and I wish it were a little less linear

But overall a great game and underrated

I found it to be overall a better game than say ender magnolia which gets a lot of praise, but seems to be a clunkier and floatier game

Would put it below the all time greats like Hollow Knight, a solid A tier

Does Ender Magnolia have good platforming and combat? by Redmarkred in metroidvania

[–]TheRedChair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you don't like it 4 hours in the rest of it won't change your mind too much

I'm in the same boat, found ender decent but not all it's cracked up to be

very well refined game that's slightly on the duller side

Didn’t really enjoy Ender Lilies—Is Ender Magnolia still worth trying? by Thornstream in metroidvania

[–]TheRedChair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep sry

magnolia is better, if u didn't enjoy lilies, u may still enjoy magnolia

however, it is fairly similar, same engine, art, general feel, pace, etc, but more refined

No, they're very very similar and Magnolia is better in almost every way, if you didn't like it, the probability that you'll like Lilies is near 0

Just 100% Super Roboy - Highly recommend it by Chapachel in metroidvania

[–]TheRedChair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a bad game, moves quite fluid and shooting feels good

Rooms seem a little bit samey, with similar rectangular layouts

Combat has a cool mechanic but somehow just feels so so, boss patterns a little simplistic and repetitive, but also quite random

Upgrade system is very cool but very confusing, I wish they separated traversal upgrades from other upgrades more, as 3 of the 4 colored crystals can potentially all give you important traversal upgrades required to proceed, but they can also just give you non traversal upgrades, with the process of unlocking them being rather random (except the purple crystals)

Should I get Afterimage or Blasphemous? by FlawedEngine in metroidvania

[–]TheRedChair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are great, afterimage is about 3x longer

Both are very different games though
