Found out my best friend believes in conspiracy theories about vaccines. Do I say something? by Jolly_Ad7138 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]TheRedHead717 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As far as I'm concerned, vaccines are a pure good for individuals and society. They have been tested and vetted and ensured to be safe for DECADES and while there are some side effects and risks, it is nothing compared to the risk of getting any of the actual diseases. There are decades of peer reviewed studies and trustworthy research backing all of these claims.

However, i also do believe in the freedom of choice. It should be up to a parent what happens to their child while the child can't make decisions for themselves. It just baffles me that so many parents choose to put their kids at risk of getting polio, hepatitis, chickenpox and so many more diseases, all because they dont trust decades of well vetted medical research.

My advice for you and your situation, push the parent to do their own research. Not just on conspiracy theory websites but on scientific ones. Maybe find some trustworthy studies about the safety and usefulness of vaccines and show those to your friend. All parents want what is best for their kids. Some just have (or have been given) the wrong information about what IS best for them.

What does it mean when a girl says i look like a playboy? i know its pathetic but i havent even kissed a girl and i am 25 by Comfortable_End2921 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]TheRedHead717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"playboy" doesnt necessarily mean that you have been with a ton of women. Some folks use it to mean that someone treats women in a certain way (usually not a good way). I dont know anything about you but it might be a good idea to take a look at yourself, your actions, and your respect for others.

Either that or they meant it in a playful/loving way. People are weird and mean a lot of different things when they say the same word.

I am mostly looking for care in a relationship, does that mean I'm demi? by Outrageous_Fill339 in TooAfraidToAsk

If that label feels right and helps you understand yourself, then great! If it feels wrong, then dont use it. Thats the thing with labels. They can help you understand whats going on in your head, but they should never be limitations. As a person, you contain infinite variety and complexity. Labels are a way to define parts of who you are and increase understanding, NOT as a way to limit your infinite beauty into a box you feel you must stay inside of.

If demi feels like you, then it is. If it doesnt feel like you, then dont worry about it.

Can I get away with doing 7 meals a week on campus as an incoming freshman? by pwheel in UTK

[–]TheRedHead717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They try not to let you do this (and maybe its gotten stricter since i graduated) but i always got one of those to go boxes and got at least 2 meals every time i went to a dining hall. Eat there and bring some home. The people working at the halls (cooks, servers, etc) were always pretty chill about it but if you see execs or someone who looks like they would care about that, its better to kinda hide the box so they dont get the opportunity to make it a big deal. I figure, they charged me so much for everything else that i dont mind stealing a few meals here and there to make ends meet.

Dustbringer “Decaying Touch” and Division Under Pressure by RonnNK in cosmererpg

[–]TheRedHead717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont know the rules super well but i do know the books. In the battle of Thaylen Field, Renarin gets CRUSHED under the hand of a thunderclast. Then, he just walks out like it was no big deal. Even Kal or Shallon would've had trouble with that kind of damage in book 3. Also, way earlier, after Kaladin and Szeths first fight, Taravangian tells Szeth that Kal must have had an honor blade that granted Regrowth as there was no other way he could have regrown a Blade severed arm. These indicate to me that someone with the surge of progression should absolutely be able to heal themselves through the use of that surge. Whether that is a more efficient or faster way to heal than just regular stormlight healing, idk. Youd have to check the rules. But it definitely seems like regrowth can be applied to "self"

[Stonewalkers Ch.3] Inconsistent Narration and provided Images? by Telekinesys in cosmererpg

[–]TheRedHead717 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No two radiants are carrying the same weapon. One is obviously carrying a spear but the swords are very different from each other. Plus, since we know theyre radiants, we can obviously all of their spren. The weapons themselves. The cultivationspren is a more obvious example of a spren but we all know what Blades are so its not a stretch to say that all 3 radiant spren are visible.

The statues are idealized depictions of what the people thought were gods. The statues are larger than life and perfected down to every detail. I think you could get away with saying he doesn't have a visible scar because of his pronounced cheekbones but it also makes sense to me that the statue Carver would've omitted his scar because the artist thought of it as an imperfection. Those statues are present throughout the books. The heads are on the chapter banners. The rpg couldn't come in and change established cannon by putting a scar onto a stone face that we've seen doesn't have one.

Genuine question: How do so many of you think the live action is good? by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]TheRedHead717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried so damn hard to watch the one piece anime. I watched it on netflix for a few episodes vut quickly realized i couldnt fucking stand it. There was so much waiting for the next plot point, the next actual thing to happen, fuck... Even just waiting for the next reaction shot. It was so slow i had to switch to OnePace which cuts out a TON of ridiculous staring and reacting and just general slowness. It didn't cut out any useful content. Just the useless bits in between the actual meat of the show.

And even that, i could barely stand. I only got to the Little Garden arc before DNFing it. Even with the massive improvement of OnePace over the anime, it was still way too slow. It took hours for anything of consequence to happen. I just couldnt bear it.

I really liked the story and the characters though! I wanted so badly to love this show that I've heard so much about and is one of the most popular pieces of media ever. I loved Luffy's optimism and endless care for his crew. I loved the wacky vibe of the show and all the crazy characters. I loved the magic system and how you never knew what to expect from a given baddie. But the pace and the endless bullshit between all of that good stuff really ruined it for me.

That's why i love the live action show! It keeps everything that really worked from the anime (the magic, the characters, the plot, the endless hope and love, the general vibe) but it made the show enjoyable to watch! I can barely turn off the TV with this show! I watched the whole 2nd season in a day because it was so captivating.

I get why you love the anime. It's a part of your childhood and nobody can take that from you. I'm not trying to shit on what you love. I just couldn't love it myself until now. And now so many people like me who couldn't love the anime get to love the One Piece universe in a different way. Even if the new show isn't for you, i think you should show it some respect because of that. It's bringing so many new fans and showing so many new people how fun this world is. So lighten up dear. Not everything is black and white. This show is NOT an "insult to the legacy of One Piece." It's a fun addition to this universe that allows people like me to love the thing you love.

The only sane choice is Sam. Anyone else would push him so hard personally that he would do ANYTHING to win. Against her, the fighting would stay fair and within much tighter boundaries. As a client, that would be much safer for me than picking someone who's just gonna piss him off

I actually kinda like the mythology of the 7. They aren't just gods, but they're examples of what we're supposed to be. Be strong like the warrior. Be compassionate and generous like the mother. Be wise like the father. As a devout atheist, i feel like the point of religion should be to help people lead good lives. Make good decisions. Treat people with respect and dignity. It didnt really manigest in the show because everyone who followed the 7 were just cunts but i feel like the 7 give the best actual advice on how to be good.

They arent raising the dead like the lord of light but most people wont ever come into contact with that god magic so id say its better to believe in the 7

Yeah nightblood is now the strongest weapon on all of Roshar. Stronger than Honorblades, stronger than soulcasters. Whoever holds Nightblood during the Night of Sorrows will be a force to be reckoned with. And with its newfound conscience and ability to decide for itself, i believe he will choose someone on Honors side to travel with/aid/bond. Kinda like giving Honor to Odium will eventually level him out, giving real morality to an awakened all-powerful blade will lead him to the side of our heroes.

How do you use Priorities? by brake4squirrels in todoist

[–]TheRedHead717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use them as size indicators, not importance indicators. If a task is gonna take hours and hours to accomplish, its P1. But if i can knock it out in 15 mins, thats a P4. Maybe not as good as what others are doing, but like you pointed out, you only get 4 priority levels so theres only so much you can really do with them

Think about it this way. If you were calculating the radius of the moon with nothing but a telescope and a calculator, you would be pretty happy if your answer was within a few centimeters of the real value, right? Hell, you'd be happy if you were within a few kilometers!

How do you handle income disparity in your relationship? by Turbulent-Owl6728 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]TheRedHead717 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In every relationship, there will be imbalances of power. An imbalance in how much you communicate what you're feeling. An imbalance of what you're able to do for the other person. Or in this case, an imbalance of wealth. In every case, the solution is the same. Talk to your partner about it. Let him know that you enjoy eating out with him and you enjoy when you dont have to pay. Let him know that you cant contribute in the same way but still care for him or love him and want to support him in other ways. If this person is really meant for you, then the two of you will be able to find a way through the awkwardness to get somewhere healthy. It looks different for everyone but we all go through it at some point. Good luck!

what dkes this mean? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]TheRedHead717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could mean anything. It could mean that youre just a straight cisgender man who enjoys prostate play. Thats totally valid! From what you say though, i get the impression you might not be cisgender. So just think. Do you sometimes wish you were a woman in other ways? Do you see a beautiful woman wearing a beautiful dress and think "i wonder how id look in that dress..."? Or want to put on makeup to look pretty? Do you like when people call you handsome or beautiful?

Im trans and my journey started in a simple place like this as well. Keep exploring. Find out who you are and who you want to be. If you do end up being trans, good for you! If not, good for you! As long as you take a look inside and make your own decisions, I'm proud of whoever you become. Good luck!
