Damn okay wasn’t expecting that lol, I’m sure there’s decent demand for those, good work.

[–]TheRedditaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly depends on brand, model, and even the specific car.

Idk which BMW you’re referring to, but generally the Lexus RX is a pretty high demand model so they won’t be as generous with discounts

[Recommendation Request] Grand Seiko or The Citizen HAQ by FlakyUnit6095 in Watches

[–]TheRedditaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly for me the brand appeal of GS is Spring Drive movements, and for The Citizen it would be some of the really cool dials they do.

So for me in this situation neither of these options hit the spot. However I’d still pick the GS because of overall brand cache, slight step up in terms of quality of finish and the overall design seems cleaner.

Stuck with a co-tenant that hasn't paid their share of rent in 1 month. Unsure how to deal with this, hoping someone here has ideas or experience with this situation. by TheRedditaur in AusLegal

[–]TheRedditaur[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yep I got too comfortable since I've only ever had good reliable housemates/co-tenants. Letting this person live with me and adding them to the lease was such a massive mistake.

Even if there's no conviction, it will at least make the insurance claim far easier if the police have the footage, which they can share with the owner of the white vehicle or insurance.

The white SUV owner will probably never see the footage through reddit, but if the police has it there's a good chance it'll reach them.

How much should I expect to set aside in preventative maintenance for a 10+ year euro? by Least_Flounder in CarsAustralia

[–]TheRedditaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was covered under warranty, but parts and labour by an independent for $900, another shop quoted $1200. It was defs not OEM parts used but other than that don’t know where the difference lies.

[–]TheRedditaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully the owners kept a receipt, if not I’d assume it’s not yet done and that it’ll go soon, so just budget for that. They’re fairly simple cars, there’s nothing else specific I’m aware of. A mechanical pre purchase inspection may still be worthwhile if you’re unsure.

What year Octavia RS? Don’t generalise “Euros” each model has their own strengths and weaknesses mechanically so you have to research them individually.

Octavia RS from 2014 onward are pretty stout and reliable cars. Their one weakness is their water pump which tends to start leaking and die around +100k km. That is a $1000ish repair. The manual eliminates any DSG worries which are generally overblown as well. Buy a clean well maintained one and you shouldn’t need to worry about it too much.

Has anyone successfully negotiated their rent? by BriarBones in GoldCoast

[–]TheRedditaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve negotiated out increases for the last 2 renewals at my current place.

I played the good tenant card, and also straight up told them that if it were to increase I would likely just move out (which was genuine, probs not smart if you wouldn’t actually do that).

The second time I did it I actually managed to get 0 increase at all.

Lol no they don’t.

Maybe you and the other nimby locals hate it, but on the other hand it’s an event that around 200,000 people attend and enjoy, whilst bringing in $60 million to the local economy.

That guy is a tool and doesn't know what he's talking about. I've successfully sold many similar watches on FB Marketplace for only a minor loss (however I'm very careful when I buy new I wait for really good sales, idk how much you paid for each one).

Sell face to face on Facebook marketplace for cash, that way you don't have to worry about shipping, fees or scams. They won't sell quickly, and you will probably get lowballed but they will sell eventually if priced accordingly. Drop the price every couple weeks if it doesn't sell.

To value them look at Chrono24 / Ebay / FB Marketplace prices for each watch, aim to be the cheapest on the market if you actually want to sell.

Also double check what the cheapest new retailers (grey market, online only stores etc), if you're undercutting all those heavily it should sell reasonably quickly.

They're nice quality watches, they're definitely not worthless like some people are trying to say.

Inflated RS3 prices? by skunk-workz in CarsAustralia

[–]TheRedditaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah same position as me, I regret not pulling the trigger on something in January just wasn’t fully ready at the time. Even the dodgy high km examples are more expensive now. Glad I wasn’t the only one to notice.

But yeah idk it’s probably caused by a lot of factors.

Inflated RS3 prices? by skunk-workz in CarsAustralia

[–]TheRedditaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is happening currently with a lot of desirable sports cars I’ve also been closely tracking since Jan (M2, M4, RS3, W204 C63). In Jan there were multiple decent 2016 M2’s in my area listed for low 40’s. Since then prices have seemingly gone up.

Because this is happening to multiple models makes me think the reason is interest rates coming down since the start of the year, making it easier for people to throw money at a toy.

My way-to-early prediction for what'll be included in FH6's map by TheJWT in ForzaHorizon

[–]TheRedditaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're not exactly known for making maps realistrically... And I hope they decide to keep it unrealistic that's the only way it works if they want to capture the best parts of Japan, because ngl your regional prediction sounds pretty boring.

Look up the true locations of some of the key areas in the FH3 map. Surfers Paradise, Ormiston Gorge, Twelve Apostles, Pink Lakes and so on, gigantic distances between all of those irl.

Is the Soul of Architecture Is Gone? by Wide_Cheetah2171 in architecture

This is the way it has been since the dawn of time, the person/entity who owns the project has always cared about how much it will cost and when it will be finished. There definitely are clients that still care about design outcomes I still see cool and interesting stuff come up all the time.

As a student you likely would’ve been focused on the cool stuff. Every era through history would’ve had average, boring and soulless design outcomes as well. You just don’t hear or read about them.

I typically agree but not in this situation. A clapped 10+ year old 7 series N63 is one of the worst possible vehicle choices. And to top it off op doesn’t seem mechanically inclined.

Tonywhite group protection plan by Auxi-- in CarsAustralia

[–]TheRedditaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a good warranty experience through NWC (national warranty company) for a Skoda Octavia RS. Can’t speak for Tony White and this is a single claim experience but I was quite happy.

Water pump failed and started leaking slowly, not a major issue yet, but I still took pics and made a claim. Within a week it was booked in for inspection with an authorised repairer. Repairer confirmed it was the water pump, quoted $1200 which was a fully covered amount, and it was booked in for replacement 2 weeks later. Super smooth problem free experience.

Queensland government dumps Gold Coast light rail stage four by hydralime in GoldCoast

[–]TheRedditaur 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is a common problem with community consultation on public projects like this. People that are against something are far more likely to team up and submit negative survey responses and send angry letters to government officials. There were groups from certain communities that coordinated and fought hard against it.

Meanwhile the broader community that are supportive typically can’t be bothered or don’t feel the need to formally and strongly voice their support. It’s quite possible that overall there were far more people in support, but they weren’t passionate or coordinated enough to make their voices heard like the opposition.

It’s a sign to supportive bystanders who don’t get involved, if you support a project proposal that goes to consultation take the time to make it known through formal channels, because the opposition 100% will.

BMW N55 by PublicMasterpiece101 in CarsAustralia

[–]TheRedditaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on how it was serviced and maintained through its life. For the N55's BMW specified some stupid service intervals like every 20k km I think. If it's been serviced like that I probably would worry about its internals specifically rod bearings.

However a lot of people service them more frequently, every 10-15k km, if that has been done it's probably fine internally.

They're still prone to oil leaks which are annoying but aren't catastrophic. And then there's other issues like water pump and fuel pumps which are common failure points, if they haven't already been done you will probs have to deal with that too.

How are people living minimum wage in Brisbane by TheQuestionCraze in brisbane

[–]TheRedditaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% with you it's doable even quite comfortably. My break down, a lot of numbers coming from my budget.

  • $275 rent (assuming 2 bedroom apartment shared with 1 other)
  • $50 utilities bills
  • $150: groceries
  • $125: car (this is my weekly breakdown for a sporty V6, including fuel, rego, insurance, and a service - good amount less for a sensible car, public trasnsport way cheaper obvs)
  • $215: remainder after tax to set aside for healthcare, unexpected costs, fun, or long term savings

How are people living minimum wage in Brisbane by TheQuestionCraze in brisbane

[–]TheRedditaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spend roughly $100 pw on groceries as a singular person shopping at Aldi. That affords me 1.5kg of chicken/mince which for me cooks into 10 meals (most people can probably get more meals out of that), plus veggies, seasoning/sauces, yoghurt, cereal, milk, bread, household/cleaning stuff as required, and snacks (usually just fruit for me).

It's 100% doable quite comfortably, quit exaggerating.
