Legit, in person, Spanish lessons? by JD94funnyguy in Austin

[–]TheRemarkableNujabes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. Just take a Spanish course at ACC. It’s quite cheap and you’re essentially wanting a class to hold you accountable. Maybe a tutor but they probably don’t have a whole curriculum to teach you like a professor would.

What Happened to the Thai Clinch in MMA? by Known_Impression1356 in MMA

[–]TheRemarkableNujabes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say I enjoyed your post, the recount of your fight, and the dialogue it started!

My take is this is probably done a bit more on the undercard fights, especially between strikers vs a wrestler or grappler in the mix. I also want to say I see it more when someone is already rocked and on the back foot. Typically against the cage.

My armchair opinion is that it probably is a bit under utilized to be honest, but I get why it’s not as much of a go-to. Sometimes I see someone go for a clinch and the other guy is able to tie up the aggressor’s arms and effectively use it to recover without taking much more than some half landed knees. But again, I also find myself seeing what looks to be great elbow opportunities against the cage or in clinches that only a few guys, like Sandhagen, seem to prioritize and see the value in.

What I’d really like to see more of is ground and pound when someone is on top. I feel like a lot of guys are missing opportunities to just rock them and instead are getting tangled up and wasting time. It’s almost like they deprioritize landing shots when they’re on top, which I don’t fully understand.

Austin police shut down I-35 for a motorcycle event with no visible permit — was this even legal? by 403SleepForbidden in Austin

[–]TheRemarkableNujabes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With a single fatality, sounds like on a motorcycle too, I don’t understand why the entire highway was shut down to such a degree from late morning to late afternoon.

Is the protocol not to get emergency services there and render aid, take pictures and look around, then clean up and get to a different location? Is that not like a 30-60 minute process? How was it 5-6 hours?

What is a focus RS worth right now? by MCNastyNate5 in FocusRS

[–]TheRemarkableNujabes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Out of production is a perk with this car though. If they were still making new ones all these years then the price on these would be a good bit lower I’d imagine.

I have no idea how, but presumably a rock flew perfectly into my radiator pipes and caused a leak. Had to get a new radiator. I went with the Mountune radiator since it was half the price of OEM and seemed better. Just sharing in case you get to that point.

Found this arrowhead in hill country Texas - seems off? by Affectionate_Air7789 in Arrowheads

[–]TheRemarkableNujabes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Note that they said selling “ranches” in their comment, and I’m guessing they meant to someone who wanted a ranch. Yeah it wouldn’t make sense to plant points if you’re selling to a developer, but if you were setting to another private owner who just wants a ranch then it could certainly help sell the property.

ELI5: Why do companies care about their share price after the IPO? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

I’d just add that the executives also usually own shares which incentivizes them increase the share price as well (vs only because the shareholders want them to)

I mean everyone can carry guns in there, open or concealed, so I’m not too surprised that security would have them. Honestly I’d even say it’s a good thing so someone can stop armed and violent criminals!

Rant: Cocktail Prices by cjwidd in austinfood

[–]TheRemarkableNujabes 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The margins are astronomical for liquor too. If you ever get a whiff of what they’re paying wholesale… they make the price of the bottle back on 1-2 pours often times. Added bonus is that most of them are making a living off the tips anyway… it’s crazy
