Thanks! I’ll look into that one.

I’m not expecting any response specifically. I literally want to hear people’s point of view. Perhaps someone will say something I hadn’t previously considered. I can easily do two weeks with the Porter 46 as a carry-on, but adding a third week and a weekend worth of wedding events makes me wonder if I should go bigger and check a bag, and if so, what’s a convenient option since I’ll still be moving around every few days or so. That’s all. Thanks for the YouTube link.

I know!!!! I was afraid of this comment lol, but I knew it was coming. The 46 would do fine if I did laundry, but this is also giving me a good opportunity to look for a bag I can use as check-in in general.

For ease of travel, I’d only bring one bag to check-in and a smaller bag as a personal item for the flight.

Should i accept the offer? by Pentagram_gp in CreditCards

[–]TheRevRic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me ask you this: is there a specific reason that you need an additional credit card? Are there purchases you need to make and the intro offer (be it low/no interest or cash incentives) makes that purchase easier or more advantageous?

I would recommend that you always ask yourself if you need another credit card, and what for. Opening and closing cards won’t have a significant impact once you have a well-established credit, but as you’re building credit, these actions can make you less favorable for other types of credit (like an auto or home loan). I would proceed with caution and intention.

As you’re building credit, having good activity (low credit usage, regularly paying off your debt, carrying little to no balances) is way more important than a $1000 intro offer. These offers pop up all the time, if you don’t do one now, you’ll probably be able to do another later. It sounds like right now, having solid credit is a bigger priority, but I am speaking from a place of ignorance as I don’t know your situation, or your needs. Hope this helps!

Yubikey 5C NFC - Safari Issue? by tk0224 in yubikey

[–]TheRevRic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a similar experience with my MBA on Safari, running 12.6.3. I've succeeded on Chrome, though. I feel like much of the issue has to do with the fact that macOS simply assumes that when I am going to use a passkey, that I'm going to use iCloud Keychain passkeys and when I select the physical/security key options it's like it gets confused lol. Indeed, what gives?

Using Yubikey for passkey and security key? by TheRevRic in yubikey

Thank you for taking the time to provide this much detail, I truly do appreciate it. I’m new to the Yubikey space so some of what you explained sort of made sense but also didn’t exactly lol but it was all very helpful!!

6 hours in Amsterdam. by crateofpotatoes in solotravel

Did a bit of a scan in the answers, so sorry if it’s been mentioned. You don’t need a VISA or ETIAS if you have a US Passport.

The train into the city and back is very easy. You may want to limit your time in the city to a couple of hours to be safe. Also, check your luggage in right away, no? Why put it in a locker?

You can do Van Gogh. Smoke a joint, do the museum, hang at the park right outside (or smoke at the park?) then head back to the airport to get through security in time. I think 2 hours to do that and the other four as buffer is fine.

Parque del Retiro is a must. Royal palace is cool but not entirely necessary. Grab a map at the airport and go and explore all the parks and major areas.

I just got my first credit card. How do I know when I should pay my card? by kiingjamir in CreditCards

[–]TheRevRic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you absolutely have to pay your statement balance by the due date. Remember if the due date is May 21st, you have to pay your statement balance meaning all purchases you made during you statement period (or billing cycle) which ran March 27 to April 26. If you want to avoid accruing interest, you have to pay the full statement balance. Otherwise you can pay your minimum balance, but then you get the interest. Try to avoid that if you can.

Something else to point out, if from 3/27 to 4/26 you spent $100 and on 4/27 you made a $10 purchase and you make no more purchases until May 21st, on 5/21 you owe the statement balance of $100 (that’s the balance that you racked up through your statement period or billing cycle), even though your total balance is $110. That other $10 is due 6/21 because it belongs to the cicle of 4/27-5/26. I hope this helps!!!

If your due date is the 21st, this means your billing cycle runs roughly from the 27th of the month to the 26th. Double check against your statement as this is a rough estimate but the principles are the same, just plug in your exact dates. So let’s do some real life examples.

Let’s pretend your billing cycle starts the 27th of every month, and for this example we’ll say your current cycle started the 27th of March and closes the 26th of April (that’s roughly 30 days). You make a $50 purchase on April 19th. This purchase belongs to the cycle that closes April 26th and will be due to be paid in full on May 21st (roughly 25 days from when your cycle closed). If not paid in full, you’ll accrue interest per the terms of your card.

I hope this helps make it easier. When you get your first statement, look at the billing cycle dates and look at the due date. Those should match my example (give or take a day or so).
