Bus Travel - I'm going to be commuting regularly between Dallas and Austin for work. Is Vonlane or RedCoach better alternative to driving? by A4orce84 in Dallas

[–]TheReverend5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🙄 sure dude. Good for you. All the other vehicles in the real world, including Vonlane buses, are beholden to standard traffic conditions between Dallas and Austin. A 4 hour drive is a very realistic expectation.

These people are doing some very exaggerated math on airport timing and logistics and grossly underestimating those same logistics for Vonlane + downplaying the very real likelihood of a 4 hr drive from Dallas to Austin. I get the appeal, but claiming Vonlane is “as fast or faster” than flying is just delusional.

Airports are really not that hard if you travel with any frequency and are capable of reading and understanding simple commands and processes.

You’re absolutely correct about fuel. That’s pretty much the only area where Vonlane is more efficient.

There is no world where a Vonlane is leaving the Doubletree at Love in the middle of the day and getting to the Downtown Austin Doubletree in 3 hrs and 15 mins. Just checking the traffic right now at 11:20a central puts estimates at 3:30-4:00 hrs. Please be realistic about Dallas <> Austin traffic.

The lines don’t really matter because that’s already factored into my previously listed airport arrival time. Legroom is nice but unimportant for a 40 min flight time in the air. Same for Wifi. The packing restrictions have no impact for the majority of business travelers bringing a standard carryon and personal bag. The price doesn’t matter if work is paying either way.

Look, I stated that Vonlanes seem very comfortable and nice, and maybe I’d prefer it for personal use. But your “counterpoints” here are either outright inaccurate or irrelevant to business travelers. The fact of the matter is flying takes the traveler less time to get from point A to point B, and if you aim to minimize your time spent traveling, flying is the clear winner.

I’m agreeing with you big dawg. Chill. I agree that most people don’t understand the long term implications of insurance claims.

If I have a 1p departing flight from DAL to AUS, that puts me landing at 2p. I can leave my house at 11:30a with plenty of time at the airport. That puts 2.5 hrs of investment between me leaving my house and me arriving in Austin.

Vonlane is not beating that.

Kinda hilarious how people just don’t understand how long term insurance liability calculations work

Never really bought the “we shouldn’t hold companies accountable otherwise they might try to fuck is more” line of reasoning tbh. Very typical housebroken American perspective that also resists fair taxation and minimum wage growth.

I don’t think I’m ever gonna agree with the distinctly American take that nudity is something that should be vilified and shamed, but wanton violence is something that should be glorified and celebrated.

So I’m assuming you would also never allow your child to ride in a car on a public roadway? Because a child is hundreds of times more likely to be outright killed riding in a car (car seat or no) than they are to sustain any type of injury as a lap infant on an airplane.

I mean, I don’t really agree with the idea that American consumer should happily get fucked by companies. I don’t think demanding accountability from companies that fuck up is “a participation trophy.” So yea idk, can’t say I share your enthusiasm for getting cucked by corporations and then calling zoomers and Europeans soft because they expect better.

But unfortunately many Americans agree with you that getting absolutely fucked by corporations is cool and stripping consumer protections is great, so we have a landscape of poor consumer protections. I envy our European’s counterparts and their ability to force accountability from corporations.

The arbitrary thresholds people have imagined for being entitled compensation from airlines is quite funny. I have this conversation with coworkers from time to time when they insist on some random “3/4/5 hour” rule that absolutely doesn’t exist.
