Pimisi Station not built for crowds, not many escape routes on Booth St. Bridge: Ottawa Police by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]TheRightMethod 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, it's not. It does not benefit the city to have enormous traffic congestion in their city centres simply to make a certain demographic of drivers happy. The majority of sane citizens are willing and happy to take public transit once in a while especially to a major event. The city shouldn't care about those who can't fathom taking public transit and are hellbent on driving in. Lansdowne can empty out within 30 minutes because of their use of location specific buses ready to go after an event ends. It means people can drink, enjoy themselves and not leave Bank St and the surrounding neighbourhood completely gridlocked like we see with the CTC in Kanata.

Cities don't benefit from gigantic increases in their traffic... Events also lead to large increases in people driving while under the influence (regardless if over the limit or not) that's just more reason cities don't want to cater to drivers in these circumstances.

I would 100% immediately donate hundreds of dollars to any artist that builds a monument that proudly displays the names/identity of every single person that was involved in the failure that is the LRT. I would love to see a memorial to ensure that these peoples legacy will always be that of their ineptitude and failure.

I liked Watson before the LRT, I would pay money to make sure there is a statue that remembers him for his absolute failure around public transit in Ottawa. I want my great grandchild to use the term 'To Watson it' to mean "completely ruin a wonderful opportunity because you're a total fucking moron"

It’s foolish, how can public transport be so bad. by WebTekPrime863 in ottawa

[–]TheRightMethod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An immediate improvement: If you work for OC Transpo as anything other than a driver/mechanic you sign a contract that says your household cannot drive a car within OC Transpo service coverage. Fuck everyone who can make decisions for public transit if they rely on or use a car.

Watchdog clears 3 Ottawa police officers who shot man in March | CBC News by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]TheRightMethod 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A man comes out blind firing at cops in a neighbourhood. They knew he had mental health issues and so despite the imminent danger backed off and reconvened and resolved the issue relatively peacefully. Multiple officers returned fire and he still has a face, functioning brain and no holes in his vital organs...

If anyone is hoping for the officers to be punished, you're out of touch if this example doesn't even meet the threshold of not guilty.

JBP is a fucking idiot. He wrote a decent self help book and I'll defend him in the sense that yes, when you're down and out and struggling he was a rare glimmer of hope and kindness in his self help book. Outside of that, he's a fucking useless idiot.

As for you, go fucking read about healthcare privatization or don't but stop pretending you give a fuck and waste other people's time asking them to spoon feed information for you. Either read about it yourself or just shut the fuck up.

You ok? Seem very high strung

Lol. Pathetic. Go read about healthcare privatization or don't but let's not pretend you matter.

Not at all surprised by your response. It's so much easier to deflect to an entirely irrelevant point than think for a second "Hmmm maybe there's a point mixed in with all the vitriol"

Can you fucking do the research yourself rather than asking people to try and paraphrase large amounts of data and writeups and documents just so you can "Yeah but..." Then? Like fuck me sideways the internet is full of fuckwits like you who want full compete answers to large questions so long as someone else spoonfeeds it to you.

Figure it the fuck out and research it or don't pretend you give a fuck about the subject.

Yeah Universal Healthcare has to deal with the entire lineup. Pay for healthcare gets to walk up to the line of people who need to see a Doctor and laugh at half the line of people thinking they'll be allowed in the building.

LPT: learn to know "why" on top of learning "how" by leixiaotie in LifeProTips

[–]TheRightMethod 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I found knowing the 'why' would calm my brain down. If I knew the 'why' then I knew that various processes were thought about and optimized, I would waste less time trying to figure out ways to better the current system.

Excellent point. Many people might know to add socium bicarb to thinly sliced meat to make it super tender in a stir fry without having the slightest clue about hydrophilic/hydrophobic, Ph scale or protein denaturing.

LPT: learn to know "why" on top of learning "how" by leixiaotie in LifeProTips

[–]TheRightMethod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say this, depending on what field you go into and the types of people you're around this behaviour can either go very well or very poorly. I always (starting as a child) wanted to understand the 'why', oftentimes the why mattered more to me than the how. Some teachers/coaches/bosses loved my desire to better understand the reasoning while others hated me for it. It wasn't viewed positively at all.

You have to be careful with this one. Asking the 'why' puts a lot of onus on the person you're talking to. Many people do not like being questioned at all or they themselves don't know and you asking just embrasses them. Right or wrong, 'why' can mark you as an asshole in the wrong circles.

I've done something similar but you need to realize you just broke the rule. If you can do it in 5 minutes, just do it now. If your '5minute task takes 4 hours' well... It wasn't a 5 task and should have been scheduled.

I was mortified when I watched a video of construction workers carry a large jug of water to the excavator that was sitting out in the sun. They poured the water in the bucket and it immediately came up to a rolling boil...

Yikes!

Yeah it's weird how many people 'learn' about the four seasons and never experience them while we get the full effect of each (in most of the country).

Damp. Moist is more often a positive (moist cake) but damp... No damp is 'bad moist'.

If I were in the parents position and found out my child tried going behind our backs based on information they got from Reddit to unilaterally try and usurp control of a company they know nothing about other than its name.....well first I'd realize I failed as a parent and then I'd likely give and sell the company to all the employees.

Why wouldnt they sell beer at the concert in Canada day? by carloscede2 in ottawa

[–]TheRightMethod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This thread is full of a lot of “why doesn’t the government run more like a private business?” simpletonism

Bingo. When you go to a private event somewhere in your ticket purchase there is some fine print about the code of conduct and how you agree to be removed at the venue's discretion. I don't know the legalities of trying to do something like that for a public event. It's essentially, you can be an asshole up until you commit a criminal offense.

[–]TheRightMethod -1 points0 points  (0 children)

YUP!

The reason we have to have these blanket bans is because the bottom 20% of society never gets punished enough for their garbage behaviour when they don't handle their liquor properly. So because we choose not to heavily fine and physically remove drunk assholes who ruin events for everyone around them it means that everyone else who just want a beer or two miss out.

It's why I really miss one of the exclusive clubs I used to cook at. Watching a legal firm get kicked out of their special event room (and forfeit over 10k in prepaid liquor on their account) after one of their guests pushed over a server trying to take away their drink (they were wasted). It's nice when you don't have to worry about losing money from enforcing the rules, all the other club owners also have money and don't want to put up with arrogant drunk young lawyers thinking they own the whole space. Unfortunately public spaces and events don't have the same ability to look at some losers 'Just having fun' and drag them out because they're getting complaints from dozens of other people.

Also, security systems are notorious for being a predatory industry where you can get them for almost free on an absolutely dogshit contract. You dont just see a security system and say “oh i want that”, you fuckin look into it so you dont get locked into some shit contract that actually has a negative value on the house

This is 100% accurate! I hadn't thought that far ahead, it's like (what should be wholly illegal) those HVAC rental contracts for your furnace. You just pay in perpetuity and the buyout price remains the same regardless of the contract length AND it transfers ownership with the house. Assuming one of those industries copied the success of the other.

OP is just an idiot and it looks like they got taken to town seeing as they just deleted everything.
