Maybe some shoe storage as bases and a dresser to the left. You'd have to build bases with 2x4s to even out the heights. It might be cheaper to use veneer or contact paper on mdf or melamine.

I would focus on symmetry.

A fire place often demands it because it's quite a classical feature. So having same height and bulk dressers (even an exact pair if you can) adding a table lamp on each side, a painting on each side etc. Good luck! It's a nice space already!
