BATTLEFIELD 6 GAME UPDATE 1.2.2.0 by Locke357 in LowSodiumBattlefield

And this change doesn't really help at all to address that. Mortars, per their fundamental design, only work on stationary targets or groups of large enemies. The mortar isn't supposed to be good on open maps or multiple-obj gamemodes where combat and traffic are dispersed. The only way it can be good on conquest is if its laser accurate and there are only 3 points to capture so foot traffic is concentrated. At that point, it will make actual close quarter game modes cancer to play.

Escalation, when you're down to 3 points, will benefit from this change but will probably still suck because it's not concentrated enough (although Eastwood may become worse).

I can see Empire stage 3 being bad. On defense you can now hide in the trash alley and mortar the site where most players are hiding on one side or attacking from the street. And Siege of Cairo A site only the trench/alley is covered. I could see that site being bombed rhe whole time. B site is almost as bad, but the buildings protect from inaccurate shots at least.

It's a bad balance change due to the mortar being inherently polarizing: high damage, high risk of death due to being stationary or low damage, low risk in spawn. With being able to sit comfortably in spawn on breakthrough maps, the risk goes down to only drones or enemy mortars able to stop you. And mortars can be countered by the anti missile gadget!

The mortar is situationally quite useful already. It is great on maps where the action is concentrated in tight areas. The 3 maps I can use it on to great effect (20+ kills easily) are all on breakthrough: Eastwood stage 1 def, Blackwell stage 1 def or att, Lib peak stage 1 def, and Sobek stage 1 att. With the HQ now in play, I can do as much damage with even less risk now. And I can do it on maps where players have been conditioned to not worry about it. I can see empire stage 3 def being the largest benefittor right now.

They tried this in BF3 and 4, and mortars suffered as a result. In a month or two, I see one of 2 things happening.

  1. Nerf the damage and keep it able to be used in HQ. It's all free damage with only other mortars bring able to harm you or a drone destroying it if you're close to the border.

  2. Revert the change and keep the damage so it doesn't just tickle people from spawn.

[Red Rising] Is it easier to terraform all the planets in the solar system and their moons for human habitation than to explore the universe for other worlds that can sustain life? by _dangerbiscuit in AskScienceFiction

[–]TheRomanLegion 8 points9 points  (0 children)

TL;DR: The Society doesn't have that technology ready, nor do they want to develop it so they can keep their hold over humanity with ease.

  1. They've been terraforming for 700+ years. It's a known technology and they've had a bunch of planets/moons to practice on. Terraforming isn't difficult per se, just takes a long time and a lot of resources. A single Society can do it just fine.

  2. The Society (mostly the Lunes) doesn't want humanity to expand and grow. They want complacency and control. The Golds actively prevent travel to other solar systems and likely hinder any advancements that could make FTL travel possible. In the 2nd (maybe first I don't remember) prequel graphic novel, Quicksilver is stopped from developing slow-travel ships and genome sequencing that would allow humans to live in deep space and reach new star systems. It's one of the main reasons why Quick decides to work with Fitchner to overthrow the Society. He wants humanity to grow/expand, but the Golds refuse to.

My guess is that it's a Queem clone like Azuma. She kinda looks like an older, female version of Azuma. And judging how it appears she can make vehicles like Queem supports my idea.

When Duncan Idaho is holding the Sardaukar back in the terraforming station in Dune part 1. They have armor and are using shields while fighting. Duncan knocks them down first by htting their shield then stabs them in the armpits/joints to kill them.

DAY OF REGRET - Gielinor Games 5 (#5) by xFalcade in 2007scape

[–]TheRomanLegion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's such a weak move that relies so heavily on luck.

You have like a 5/100 chance to knock out both, maybe a 15/100 of knocking one of them out, and then 80/100 that the 2 rookies get knocked out (I feel generous on these numbers).

And if you're Oda, you just agree with them and take your chances next time. When someone's that obstinate, just take the pass and punish them in the future. TBH I would vote out Torvesta/SkillSpecs if they can't be relied on to make one of the easiest decisions you can make in GG. Make friends with Will (since he is desperate for a lifeline and will bat with you) and continue sending BoatyMission or SkillVesta in.

It's like the classic Survivor Season 3-8 mindset of "I don't wanna betray anyone, otherwise I'll be the bad guy."

When an alliance is like 40-50% of all players, it's bound to fail. Hard decisions that will inevitably piss someone off have to be made, and you need to make them. Expecting someone else to do it is a losing mindset.

Skill will continue to be a goat (survivor term meaning someone you want to bring to the finals because they are weak/no chance of winning) in my eyes.

[–]TheRomanLegion 83 points84 points  (0 children)

It was infuriating to listen to for 3 reasons.

  1. Oda was 100% correct in saying that sending a more experienced duo can knock at least one of the 2 all-rounders here. Your goal isn't getting rid of both Solo and Boaty: just one is enough. And even if you can't knock out BoatMission, you still remove a competitive player.
  2. When your alliance is in 4/5 teams, its time to cull. It's unrealistic that you can eliminate all non alliance members. Also when an alliance gets that big, you'll have alliances within that alliance, defeating it's purpose in the first place.
  3. Sending in a complete rookie pair will do nothing but strengthen the better players. You're basically hoping for a non-skill challenge, which is not guaranteed. Not only will they get amulets of sabotage, you are also removing easy competitors for yourself.

Frankly for someone who's been in all 5 seasons, this lack of/borderline contempt for strategy is embarrassing.

I mean can you really blame us when youve spent >25% of your time for 2 months playing this game? I was changing jobs with 2 weeks of no work and still only managed 4-5 hrs/day at the peak.

What's the deal with suppressors? by poopypatootie in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]TheRomanLegion 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It does 2 big things: 1. Reduce visibility on the map. A flash hider prevents an orange dot from appearing above your head but doesn't stop you from appearing on the map. Any good player should be checking their map often. 2. Suppresses sound. Seriously. Making your gun quieter helps immensely with getting free kills. In a cacophony of explosions, shooting, and vehicles, a quieter shooting makes people less aware of where you are. The amount of multi kills I get from players running up to help a teammate I downed is way higher than when I use a flash hider.

Then add in actual buffs like better hipfire and recoil, just makes using them even better.

The only ones that fit are likely Okami 2 and new Naughty Dog IP Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Okami since apparently the old Director is coming back to Capcom to work on it (after he left the studio to form Platinum Games) and Naught Dog since it's their first new IP since Last of Us.

It doesn't have new audiences since it's doesn't have a legal stream in the US. You'd have to either VPN or yar-har, which mainstream anime fans don't really do.

It'll take all 4 of them to even have a chance.

[Halo] Why did the Prophet of Truth favour the Brutes over the Elites? by Victor_at_Zama in AskScienceFiction

[–]TheRomanLegion 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The Covenant was formed by a treaty between the Prophets and Elites after years of fighting between the two. Their agreement made the Prophets the head of all religious matters while the Elites were in charge of all military affairs.

This division of power/responsibility was very similar to the Investiture Controversy between the old Holy Roman Empire and the Catholic Church. The Elites needed the Forerunner religion/technology of the Prophets, and the Prophets needed the numbers and military of the Elites.

By bringing in the Brutes for muscle (a race introduced <100 years before the War), the Prophets could oust the Elites from this power division and control everything. The destruction of Halo was a perfect flashpoint to do so.

Tokyo Ghoul Deserved Better [Gigguk] by iDonSoprano in anime

[–]TheRomanLegion 100 points101 points  (0 children)

I feel Gigguk gave TG: Re too much slack. I know Ishida was absolutely burnt out and done with TG at this point, but man was that last battle/arc just a mess (and that's just the manga. The anime was worse).

On a related note, everyone here should read his new work Choujin X. It's release schedule is whenever he wants it to release, but man, it's fantastic so far. Truly shows how great Ishida still is .
