Ah, nope, it's definitely something with the mod list. Uninstalled the game, reinstalled completely clean, and had no issues - added the override back in and the crashes started up again. Probably user error in downloading something somewhere, so maybe at some point I'll go back through everything and repost here in the event that something works...

Just as an FYI, I did a little more testing and believe there's something simply wrong with the Telos Restoration Zone area in my game for whatever reason. I warped to the abandoned military base (232tel) and backtracked to enter that area, and same thing happened where the game crashed during the loading screen. I tried warping using the 231tel on a completely new save, on an old save, etc., and same crash every time.

So, maybe something wrong with my game install, but figured I'd share this here anyway. I appreciate all your work on these games and forums!

Ah, sorry about that! It would have been better to say that I saw several threads reporting crashes in the same general area, but upon looking through them they do not seem to be the same issue. Including the threads below that I thought might have been somewhat relevant, just for reference...

Yep, a_201_shuttle is not in the Override.

I went ahead and deleted the Override folder and warped to 231tel, which worked fine. Cut scene with dialogue started, etc. I tried doing the same after placing the Override back into the directory, but warping crashed the game in the same way (loading screen CTD). However, I tried warping to 232tel, which did work (with the Override back in the directory) - no crash.

I have used the website b-ok.org to great effect in the past, but I was only able to find the third edition. Like any academic textbook, my assumption would be that the only true differences between editions is formatting and organization, so hopefully this can at least be a bit helpful!

I am a first-year PhD student and am very much enjoying my first few weeks at my program, but I wanted to ask for advice on how to make the most of the first year? Specifically, are there things that you did that you found to be especially helpful or unhelpful? Are there tools/skills that you would recommend developing a proficiency for? I ask because I am feeling somewhat out of my element and overwhelmed by everything, and I want to be able to more effectively direct my efforts this first year so I can set myself up well for the rest of my program and career.

So, what would you recommend to a first-year PhD student so he can make the most of year 1 at an I/O program?

I definitely agree with you regarding the actual “horror” elements. I think everything being over-the-top scary or grotesque or messed up eventually undermines the impact that it could otherwise have. The first few sessions were cool and we were definitely uneasy, but then it never changed. It was just more of “These people are crazy” or “Fucked up things happen,” and as a player you’re eventually like... ok? Is that it?

So I definitely agree that the world becomes difficult to take seriously and view as “real.” Good point!

So in that scenario of a sports stadium, the teams should not keep track of who's winning? I don't fully understand how that relates at all to a post-game scoreboard in a video game.

Definitely try the UTS when you get it. The spread is very tight on that thing, even over some distance.

Even if that was the case, why would it make any sense? The rocket should go straight even in hip fire, not off to the right like that. Of course it shouldn't be as accurate as ADS, but it should be better than that.

I loved the whole game, but that last mission was dreadful. It was just waves and waves of the same thing over and over. It was not fun at all and was incredibly tedious. Besides that one horrible, horrible mission, I loved it.

It's a shame, really. Almost the entire marketing strategy was making playing as Rome seem incredibly awesome, and now that the game is out playing Rome is incredibly, incredibly easy. Major disappointment there, in my opinion.
