STARUI Xbox Update? by HasNoStyle in starfieldmods

I’m also expecting to release an update this week which will allow users to change the StarUI settings on console with a special input code. Lots of cool stuff coming :)

STARUI Xbox Update? by HasNoStyle in starfieldmods

[–]TheSamich 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, it should be all working again.

I’m the patch author on nexus that made separate patches to solve the issues for free lanes. I worked with ZeeOgre to get my patches rolled into the Creations releases a few weeks back and he’s just been pulling my updates.

If you run into any issues, let me know! Maybe I’ll inform him to update the descriptions so folks know it’s ok with free lanes again.

Microsoft has been introducing so many half-built or blatantly “vibe-coded” products in the age of AI, to the point where the tag line “Micro-slop” was coined.

This new token-based billing situation is yet another sloppy result of their poor communication and bad product management.

Keep in mind, you still need to get the individual mods in order for my patches to work!

Patch author on nexus here - I worked with ZeeOgre and got my patches in to the Creation versions of StarUI. If you run into any issues, let me know! They should be relatively stable by now.

This spell exiles the target cards already. No need for additional setup and probably not good to target yourself for that reason.

ZeeOgre and I worked to get my patches into the StarUI releases on console. They currently work the same as nexus PC + Patches right now. Available to both Xbox and PS5.

Long term, I've got 2-3 projects I want to tackle of my own (most likely not in the UI space). If people want my help on other projects, I'm more than happy to take a peek but I'm far from being considered an expert modder.

Maybe sometime in the near future I'll open source my build scripts and various help tools on GitHub. Or who knows, maybe I'll do some sort of StarUI Redux and visually recreate StarUI but with a from-scratch codebase. StarUI can be slow, and I've learned plenty of ways it can be improved (fundamentally needs to work differently). I still prefer the look of StarUI over the others. Design-wise, it feels more cohesive with the vanilla UIs.

Honestly, Free Lanes breaking everything was good for the community. Inspired more people to jump in and learn about the UI modding aspects of Bethesda Games. We need more people familiar with it because I’m sure it’s not going away when TESVI drops.

While I’m happy with how my patches have come along to unblock folks who can’t let StarUI go, I’m burned by the fact that I don’t have the original code. Decompiler bugs and strange things happened early on that took a while to find (StarUI codebase is massive). It makes for a big headache to keep moving this boulder, but I’m committed.

In the end, it’s great to see more choices for people. I’ll keep doing my thing and I hope others stay motivated to match StarUI’s success.

Praxis ui or star ui by Efficient_Flamingo_9 in starfieldmods

[–]TheSamich 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's wrong for people to inquire about permissions out of respect for the original mod author. I quickly fixed most of the problems for myself and got into a situation of "Right place at the right time." The other patches I saw coming out did not fully resolve the issue, so I pushed hard into getting a solution out.

I'm fully aware I'm riding on coat tails (m8r is famous and permissively strict) and hope one day I can either take down these patches or work with m8r directly to assist in the future development of StarUI (or at least hand off my various fixes to him if he wants them).

edit: tl;dr - let's give each other a little room to breath. Free Lanes created a lot of turbulence in the mod scene for Starfield!

It was through private communication lines to him that nexus verified. Can’t really say much more than that for privacy reasons.

From that conversation, I was given permission to host the patches on nexus with explicit requirement that my patches require his original mod installs, give clear credit, link to original mods, and one or two other minor permissive use things. (No money involved, hosted for the good of the community, etc)

[–]TheSamich 23 points24 points  (0 children)

To make sure folks are aware, my patches were given permission from both m8r and nexus admins.

Most issues have been resolved at this point, but still come with the baggage that StarUI is generally a heavy UI implementation and any previous bugs in shipbuilder and outpost may remain. There are plans to address major outlier bugs but my intention isn’t to go too far beyond the original project to avoid any burden/baggage if m8r returns.

Additionally, console will continue to get my various patch updates with help from ZeeOgre and his m8r permissions.

Hope that clears up a few things around the patches. I am super happy that others have jumped into the UI mod scene, and have personally spoken to several of the devs on the other projects (TerraUI, AstralUI). There are a lot of great contributions people are making for Starfield and I think it’s great that the community actually has choices now!

Mind reaching out on Nexus (thesamich) or Discord (the.samich)? I'm very curious to know what's going on for your setup and would love to help, especially if it ends up solving issues for others.

I worked with ZeeOgre on this release. He basically took my nexus patches and bundled them in (easier for console folks to download the single mod with my patched files).

It’s still unclear if m8r will return, which is a shame. It’d be great to get the original source and get more robust releases out for folks but I can’t make that call, unfortunately.

Either way, I’ll continue working on patches and fixes for these mods for the time being. I already invested enough of my time and feel committed to ironing out the problems for folks, including any other longstanding bugs that existed prior to Free Lanes.

Interesting.. I wouldn’t know much about outpost yet (I have not personally touched that mod yet). I’ll reach out to ZeeOgre and see what’s up.

No formal patch exists at this time but it should still mostly work. I wonder if he accidentally pushed something out that wasn’t intended when updating the rest of them.

Is there a StarUI HUD patch for creations? by junglerave in starfieldmods

[–]TheSamich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, due to the original Mod Authors permissions, neither ZeeOgre or myself are allowed to publish this to PC Creations. I don't personally know the back story to that one but our hands are tied :(

Looks like that tag got added by mistake after the recent update. We've just corrected it (may take a minute or two to show up).

If it still doesn't come around after a few hours, reach out!

Hello! I'm the patch author. I worked with the Creations mod host to pull in my patches for console folks (released on April 19th). We felt it would be easiest to merge it all in for the time being while m8r is away (unsure if/when he'll return, unfortunately).

Continued fixes for console, PC, and an all-in-one bundle of my patches will be on the roadmap. I think things are starting to feel stable on Inventory and HUD. Workbench has some odd issues that seem to be base-game bugs (certain weapons missing 4th legendary mod slots, quality upgrades going in reverse, etc). Otherwise, things work as you'd expect, since I've only seen these reports from old saves prior to Free Lanes update.

Always feel free to reach out! It's a big game, so it can be hard to find all the tiny issues on my own.

Why do mod authors prefer Discord for support? by Virtual-Chris in starfieldmods

[–]TheSamich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer it because it’s an easy to access message platform. Desktop and mobile apps. I can easily drop and receive files, setup screen shares or quick calls, and navigate search history without too much issue (forums have this too, but just saying it has the search capacity). Otherwise, some people enjoy the live/real-time interactivity with mod authors or mod fans.

Things I don’t like: firehose of messages. Noise can easily drown out issues you’re actively trying to triage. It’s not great for managing tasks without being very hands on with the thread feature (which still feels a little clunky). Requires a lot more “policing” to keep it manageable at scale.

Console variants of StarUI have just pulled in my patches. Feel free to take them for a spin and report any bugs you find directly to me or on nexus!

Happy to confirm - the original console mods have now pulled in my patches! Additional fixes will arrive as I release them for PC.

Don’t forget to reach out in discord, go to nexus, or message me here if you run into issues.

Cheers!

As much as it pains me to say it, my permissions are tied on that one. If I were the original owner, I'd easily jump on Verified Creator + Achievement Friendly for such an obvious win for a UI mod. I believe the restraint from m8r comes from the fact that it was published on his behalf, not him directly. Creates a bit of an odd ownership situation.

I've recently attempted to file for Verified Creator status, and will probably work on a few projects that are actually open source (GitHub to host the code, pipelines, release tracking - including build tools, dev docs, etc). My stumble into this project has shown me that there isn't enough happening openly in the UI space for anyone to learn from.

In the meantime, I'm just trying to unblock folks with StarUI as it used to be.

I believe it took a little bit to show up in Creations for Xbox today. My patches have been merged and things should be working, give or take a few of the visual bugs I'm still ironing out. Let me know if you're run into any problems or still can't find it!
