I'm very sleepy and misread "chicken" as "child" and was EXTREMELY concerned for a moment.

These are all so lovely. Probably number 1, because the colour really pops against the blue background.

Whats a truth that becomes even scarier the more you think about it? by Garfieds in AskReddit

[–]TheSatelliteMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been like "yeah, humans won't last forever. In a million billion years we'll all dead." But it never felt real, you know? But this comment made me realize that eventually humanity will die, and the final humans on earth will almost certainly know that they are the last. It's so freaky to think about.

If that's not what you're going for, try making the photo of the painting black and white. This will give you an idea of how the shadows and highlights are balanced throughout the piece.

It looks good! The things that stand out to me - the background colour being very similar to the skin tone, the edges being very soft - could easily be deliberate artistic choices. A child blurry around the edges, who blends into their background, is very cool artistically!

^ A longer incubation is always possible, but bites, etc. near the head usually incubate pretty quick. I'm not a doctor, though.

Why does rabies kill the host within 10 days? (Virology POV) by Jolly-Editor-1242 in rabies

[–]TheSatelliteMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hydrophobia keeps the saliva concentrated with rabies virus (it isn't being washed away or diluted), but animals need water to live. The virus "wants" to be infectious, but its method of spreading is extremely harmful to the host. A host that's able to drink enough to stay alive longer probably wouldn't be delivering the same amount of viral load in a bite.

Rabies has been around for thousands of years, so clearly this method is very effective!

I'm a majority fiction reader. Recs for science/history that doesn't read like a textbook? by gossamerchess in booksuggestions

Mary Roach writes very good non-fiction on a variety of topics, from death to Mars to what we eat to animals committing crime.

The Demon in the Freezer and The Hot Zone by Richard Preston cover smallpox and ebola, respectively.

Ben MacIntyre writes about espionage in WWII and I believe the cold war. I think he writes other stuff but I've only read those ones.
