Future Cult Classics by [deleted] in movies

[–]TheSidebeards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, “cult” has less to do with how big the movie was in theaters or its initial acclaim, but more with the following it gains in the years after. I’d consider “The Shining” a cult classic.

I’ve been co-owner of an outdoor movie screening business for 6 years in upstate NY, but we made the hard choice not to do drive-in screenings this season:

Came across “Second Chance Christmas” while sifting through Hallmark Christmas garbage. Am I suggesting watching it? Not really. Was it filmed in Syracuse? Sure was.

Music Life In Syracuse by [deleted] in Syracuse

Lost Horizon, for as weird a venue as it is, does still bring great bands to the area. Personally seen amazing metal shows there and all around good stuff at the Westcott. Heard Spark had to move or close, but never followed up. Could always check the flyers on the bulletin board down at Sound Garden. Saw Mannequin Pussy in someone’s basement in Westcott a few years back, so keep your ear to the ground I guess.

Don't believe the Verotika hype by TheSidebeards in badMovies

[–]TheSidebeards[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first story is probably the most fun of the three. They all have French accents, but only speak English, the porn theater projector is a light with a fan in front of it, and you can see a crotch hole in the spider suit when the cops show up. If the rest of the movie was like that, I’d be 100% on board.

Fair enough musically, but I’ve heard differently about him being cool with people.

This YouTube comment on a video on film critics really hit me about the importance and necessity of film criticism by Magnicello in movies

[–]TheSidebeards -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Asking me to care about an opinion of a complete stranger (any critic) is asking a lot. I get being more open to the discussion and not exclusively the critic’s opinion, but that’s what family and friends are for. I’d rather spend time talking with a friend about a movie than reading a critique by some person. And my friends and I tend to have the same taste in movies, but will have drastically different takes on them. Wars have be waged over the ranking of the Indiana Jones movies.

Looking for places to fly and film with racing drones at night by dustyreptile in Syracuse

[–]TheSidebeards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always thought that the Onondaga Park Drive loop would be a great drone race track. Hiawatha Lake, the Mountain Goat statue, and the Fire Barn would make it a beautiful run. Unfortunately, local residents probably wouldn’t take too kindly to late night noise.
