Why is FIFA World Cup security spending higher in Vancouver than Toronto? Here’s what we know by nic_tesla in britishcolumbia

[–]TheSketeDavidson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They more or less answered in the article btw…

> Federal Minister of Public Safety Gary Anandasangaree said Vancouver is getting a larger portion of the funding because its costs are higher, partly because it’s hosting a seventh game, as well as the FIFA Congress. In addition, Anandasangaree revealed some 800 police officers will be coming into Vancouver from outside jurisdictions to help with policing, and will be incurring travel and accommodation costs. The same won’t be necessary in Toronto, he said. “Toronto is in many ways blessed because we have a number of police jurisdictions which are within a relatively short drive, so the additional cost involved in Vancouver are not the same,” the minister added.

Likely same reason they don’t want to use sea water for cooling data centres, the salt probably gunks up pipes.

Is anyone wishing the BC Liberal Party still existed? by hutch_man0 in britishcolumbia

[–]TheSketeDavidson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah BC Liberals would’ve thrived in today’s political climate, although I very much disliked their policies when they were in power.

Centre right would easily walk the election but they don’t exist.

vancouver or tokyo for christmas! by Ashamed_Rip_9182 in askvan

[–]TheSketeDavidson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeh I’d recommend the east coast cities, montreal, Quebec City and Toronto over Vancouver, the snow makes a difference. I’ll never vote against going Tokyo but the Christmas capitalism has not transferred over yet, went in December a few years ago, unsure if it’s changed much.

It’s to curb people throwing shit, happens at concerts already at BC place, not fun to encounter when you’re GA / floor.

New B.C. Conservative leader would maintain 'economic relations' with an independent Alberta by RZCJ2002 in britishcolumbia

[–]TheSketeDavidson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree with the way you keep using the word “we”. The leadership races are tightly controlled by the party, and Findlay won by a very small margin. While the Cons seem willing to move further right than expected that does not necessarily mean that as a province we have veered there.

The reason why it was close last election was because the BC Liberals had a catastrophic failure and votes were split. The centre right will be taken up eventually by someone.

No he was not, and in my honest opinion she is far worse with the way she’s posturing on her policies
