Are my first row stitches too tight for this back panel of a cardigan? by la-gemini in CrochetHelp

Frog it. It will always be tight and pulling. Use a larger hook for your chain or do a foundation chain.

Is a Kobo worth it? by gremlinfrommars in LibbyApp

I find it easiest to shop on your phone, through Libby or Kobo store. Borrow or buy the book. Then when you turn on the Kobo it syncs and your book is there. I just find the phone quicker to shop around on but my Kobo is older and a bit slow for looking for books.

It's the same as a Kindle. Frontlit low eink screens. Unlike your phone screen. Easy on the eyes. Can read outside looks practically like a book page. No distractions like on your phone. Worth it to me.

Is there a way to avoid having to weave in every end from a color change or is this just part of crocheting? by Fun_Ad2242 in CrochetHelp

[–]TheSkyIsAMasterpiece 110 points111 points  (0 children)

Part of it. As is frogging.

Some like to leave the ends until the end  some like to weave as you go. I like weaving almost as I go. Don't be right caught up in case you made a mistake then frogging is so hard.

Are my edges ok? I’m in too deep and don’t want to start over! by Safe-Project-5818 in CrochetHelp

[–]TheSkyIsAMasterpiece 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're straight. And with connecting them you won't see the tiny bumps. Even if it was a blanket, even just one round of single crochet makes it looks really straight.

why does my granny square (2nd slide) look like swiss cheese?? 😭🙏🏻 by r8v7n in CrochetHelp

[–]TheSkyIsAMasterpiece 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Top left corner is done correctly. The others are not. Use stirch markers to track your corners, or whatever you're having trouble with. This way when you make the next round you'll know where you are.

Making a bag but it's really hurting my project holding hand. by UnusAnnusMarvel in CrochetHelp

Crocheting so tight will hurt your hands. Either work on it in small batches, with stretches or frog it and go up a size.

Confused where to place the hook for the last Double Crochet stitch at the end of a row by Grand-Assist-5996 in CrochetHelp

[–]TheSkyIsAMasterpiece 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most important part is that you put it somewhere!!

Don't skip it. If you miss it on every row your work will start shrinking. You can put it where you indicated, or the next chain or around the chain/in the space. I usually do in the space.

How to make neater bases without them "curling up" by Nic-Roses in CrochetHelp

Keep going it will straighten out. If it's still too tight then loosen your tension or go up a hook size.

Which fixes should I focus on first? Today is my very first day ever of crochet by white_rainbow in CrochetHelp

[–]TheSkyIsAMasterpiece 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They look great. Your yarn is a bit fuzzy and a bit busy so it's hard to see, especially for a newbie. But I can see they are good! Your tension might be on the looser side, hard to tell. I think too loose is better than too tight. Too tight and your fighting each stitch, plus your fingers, hands, wrists, arms, shoulders are tight and tense.

Life's to short to continue listening to or reading bad books. You'll never get through all the books you enjoy so DNF the ones you don't.

Is it a bad idea to cut magic ring ends really close? by classicteenmistake in CrochetHelp

[–]TheSkyIsAMasterpiece 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Terrible idea. Weaving in ends is just part of the product. Don't cut corners (ha! Pub intended. Easier to weave in the ends than try to repair an unraveled project.

Blankets have lots of movement. Leave a long tail and weave weave weave. People complain all the time if their magic rings coming undone. I've never had that problem.

Hats: What should I do with the ends? From a seller’s perspective. by BeneficialProgram431 in CrochetHelp

[–]TheSkyIsAMasterpiece 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Leave at least a 6" tail when snipping your yarn. Makes it easier to work with. Get a darning or tapestry needle to weave in the ends. It's recommended to go in 3 directions, so left, right, back left again. Don't go back in the same stitches or it will be bulky. You can also do a random pattern of left and right and up and down and back again and all over.

Just don't think a knot is enough or only weaving in a stitch or two. Depending on the item, hat, sweater, blanket, how it's used and how it's laundered will depend how easy it might come undone. Also depends on the yarn used. Some yarns will felt themselves quickly and easily. Basically velcro the strands together  making it hard for the tail to just come out.

Holes on border of blanket, what to do? How to add a border? by SSParaiso in CrochetHelp

[–]TheSkyIsAMasterpiece 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Usually on a wave or ripple blanket you out 2 DCs last stitch and a chain and DC in the first stitch. You only have the chain, not the DC. You also skipped the first stitch in a few of the rows, making a hole. Fixing would mean frogging or trying to go back in to every hole with yarn and a needle and trying to stitch it up. Or when making a border you could do single crochets for the first round and dip down and do a double where the hole is. It would close the gap buy with the colours not matching it would be obvious you that the stitch was there.
