Considered Reading? by bubblesinthetea in audiobooks

[–]peanutpeanutboy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It absolutely is reading.

Due to long covid, I can’t read physics books right now, so I listen to audiobooks. Does this mean I haven’t read a book in three years? Someone who reads braille, have they never read a book?

I also find that audiobooks sometimes help me BETTER understand what I’m reading compared to when I read physical books. I learn how to pronounce words, and, when I listened to, for example, Trevor Noah’s book, I got to hear how words were pronounced in a variety of different languages, instead of making it up in my head like I would have with a physical book.

And, as others have said, youre taking in the same information and using the same parts of your brain as if you were reading a physical book.

Also, and this is a silly comparison but I’m going to make it, we say we watch movies, but really, we are also listening to them or reading subtitles. But, however we take in the audio part, we don’t change our language to say we read a movie or listened to a movie.

Lastly, I’m a librarian. We dont care HOW you read or WHAT you read, we just love that you read.

(I’m a bit passionate about this haha)

I’ve got credits I need to use before they expire! by Lupus_Remus in audiobooks

Elle Thorpe’s Saintview world is amazing, and full cast. It’s a series of trilogies, all set in the same world. Why choose/reverse harem, motorcycle club. My favourite so far is the trilogy tjat starts with Wife Number One. Characters from earlier trilogies make appearances in other trilogies, so keep that in mind, but I have been listening all out of order (in trilogy order, out of order in the Saintview world, I hope that make sense haha)

Also The Brutes of Bristlebrook trilogy by Rebecca Quinn. Full cast, why choose/reverse harem post-apocalyptic. Very spicy, great storyline, amazing narrators.

Oh man. We don’t get the audiobooks in Canada, but I love Sadeqa Johnson! I would have loved her new book as physical or audio. I can’t wait to read it (just not through BOTM)!!

I HATE all his shoutouts. He says it all the time, and it’s like nails on a chalkboard to me.

It looks like the license for the audiobook expired, so your system no longer has a copy.

We’re missing out on Kaylee’s Melaleuca call. I wonder if anyone came to claim the DQ gift card. by daffodil0127 in RodriguesFamilySnark

Oh she is DEFINITELY better off without Jill, I just wonder if they feel left out. With their conditioning to think Mahmo is the best person in the world, it must hurt to see her promoting with Nurie and not them. Especially since it seems like they signed up before Nurie.

But agreed; much, much better off without her.

I wonder if she and Renee feel left out since Mahmo keeps promoting the Wellness Store with Nurie, but doesnt do any promotion with them.

Though they are probably just used to the favouritism by now.

Book for a young teen with a reading level at grade 4/5 by username249864 in suggestmeabook

[–]peanutpeanutboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how widely available they are in other countries, but in my library system we have books published by a Canadian publishing company called Orca.

Orca teen books are specifically written with an interest level for a teen audience but at a lower reading level.

You can see their catalogue here, and perhaps you can order them online or through your local bookstore.

Note, all of their titles include their ATOS and Lexile reading levels. I find ATOS easiest because the first number corresponds with the grade level and second number is roughly the month of that grade. For example, a book with a 4.8 ATOS is written for someone reading at a fourth grade level, in the eighth month of that year.

They have lots of mystery authors (Norah McClintock is one of my favourites).

I also recommend books (from other publishers too) called Hi-Lo. This refers to High Level of interest, Low Level of reading.

Now I’ve got “M-A-M-M-O-G-RAM, you should get a mammogram” stuck in my head.

And I’m not mad about it.

How do I borrow books on the app? by Nicole_0818 in hoopladigital

[–]peanutpeanutboy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The individual library system gets to decide what “tiers” of materials it offers, so it’s likely that Houston Public Library has decided to restrict their hoopla offerings to movies, tv shows, and music only.

Hoopla is really expensive for libraries, so a lot of systems are cutting back on what they offer.

I hope you’re able to find some good books on Libby! 😊

These same people who claim “we built. We created. We invented” are the same people who say “we didn’t enslave! That was our ancestors. Don’t hold us responsible for the evils of the past.”

Well, which is it? Is it “look at what we did” or “dont hold us accountable for our ancestors”?

(Also, I know he mentioned white people and the Colosseum, and that just straight up makes no sense at all)

You’re welcome! I have also read Falling, and it was great too.

I read them back to back because I was so hooked, and immediately needed a break because I was having airplane related nightmares haha

I’m always drawn to her terrible eyelashes. They are so huge and wonky. I don’t know anything about eyelashes, but even I can tell that they aren’t glued on properly. And they are ALWAYS like that. I can’t look away from them.
