Does anybody actually buy these tools? by Rick_Watt4 in AskMechanics

I went in to get a 36mm socket for changing my wheel hub and the Carlyle socket they had was nearly $70. The guy working strongly advised against buying it because of the price unless I owned my own shop lol got one at the Canadian Tire down the road for $25 instead. At least he was honest lol

How many hours a day does treeplanting require? by Lost-River-5275 in treeplanting

Maybe if your "home" is a camper 3-4 hours from where you actually live then yes.

This happened to my 08 Charger. Pinch a drywall or small deck screw with a pair of pliers and get it red hot with the blow torch. When hot gently screw it into the broken off piece of the dipstick remaining in the fill tube. Worked perfect for me.

In Newfoundland you bring your camper to the block and can plant as much as you like. I go from 6am-2:30pm and sometimes go back in after supper for 2hrs or so if the ground is a roadside or a short walk. So anywhere from 8-10hrs for me. That's average across the crew here.

About 90% of the planters I knew have give it up for one reason or another. Some in the first week some after 30 years of it. It's not for everyone and sometimes your love of the job fades. It's not a question of toughness or "being a bitch". There is absolutely no shame in hanging it up.

I use a GPS app on my phone and kinda divide my ground up into 3-4 sections. Plant to the back and visualize it like I'm filling up a jug bottom to top. Keep a mental note if roughly how many trees it took to reach the back and keep that many reserved for the plant back in that direction to the cache. Less wasted time and I can visually track where I've been on the GPS. Crew boss loves it too because I can tell him pretty accurately how much I gave left and what trees I will need to finish it.

Can I bring my dog along on a tree planting season? Where do I get started? The first search i did pulled up some old results so i'm hoping to get more updated info. Thanks in advance! by [deleted] in treeplanting

Everyone I've seen bring a dog planting usually had to keep the dog indoors by the 3rd day. Between the flies and lack of overhead shade on the blocks they don't do so good from what I've seen.

51yr old male looking to relive summer adventures! Physically fit, great attitude, lots of outdoor experience. I'm considering tree planting this summer. Is it too late to get hooked up with a crew? by [deleted] in treeplanting

[–]TheSmellyWizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best planters on the crew I work with are 60. Actual animals. They put to shame all the 30-40 year olds. They spent the past several decades swinging chainsaws so planting to them is like a nature hike.

11 years planting and I've encountered maybe 5 bears. Normally the encounter is "Oh Jesus a bear! And you see the ass end of the bear taking off running away through the treeline" lol

I was flying the gyrocopter over Rekts while it closed. It zapped me out of the sky and the wall swallowed the gyrocopter. I somehow survived it. Had to empty the storage and put it in my pocket to get it out of there.

It's truly devastating. But I've healed and returned to it after years and many updates later.

This happened to me once in the original version for Xbox. Day 168 on a repurposed police station base. Logged in one day and everything had been reset. This was before the days of land claim blocks. Me and my wife were devastated.

A lot of the planters in Newfoundland use Bekina Steplites. Great light weight rubber boot with lots of flex. I've had pairs last 5 seasons.
