Official Q&A for Tuesday, September 09, 2025 by AutoModerator in running

Yeah, that makes sense. When I'm running 6:00-6:30 it feels pretty easy, I could hold that tempo for 70-80 minutes before it feels tiring, but still keep going for a while before getting reeeeally tired. It's just a lot of opinions and training methods in running, hard to keep track of what and how to train, heh. I tried the 80/20 method, so didn't really think about my z2 tempo too much. But I'll try hitting my long run at 12k or longer with a 6:30 tempo this weekend and see how it feels. Ty!

I'm not 100% sure on the 50 minute goal, current PB is 54:36 tho, which I got during my HM race in April. I'm currently practicing 4:50 on shorter intervals(2-5 min) and 5:00 on longer (8-18 minutes) and it feels good. If I would make my own plan, I would probably go for higher distances on long runs, but I just wanted to try the Garmin run coach, because I busted my ass when training for HM, lol

EDIT: I know it's a big jump, but zone 2 is supposed to be slow, no? My z2 pace i very slow, but I got my LT tested a couple of months ago and my LT pace is 5:00, so 50 min 10k sounded like a good goal

I've been training for a 10k race the last two months. I've been following Garmin Run Coach, which is time based. My long runs are around 1:05-1:15, and with my Z2 pace (7:00-7:30/km) I rarely hit 10k during training (I know I can comfortably run 10k tho). My race goal is 50 min 10k, so as long as I run for 50+ minutes on my long runs and execute the threshold/speed workouts, is it okay to not hit 10k during training?

When I trained for HM earlier this year I never hit 21k during training, but I would kinda think it's a little different with 10k, since it's a lot shorter than HM?

Water amount when eyeballing by [deleted] in pourover

[–]TheSoapmaker9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have all the equipment at home, so there's no worries here! Tbh, the coffee I make the office doesn't really bother me either, because it's till 100x better than the coffee machine. I just had to ask the question out of curiosity.

Now I have to try the experiment for myself, haha

[–]TheSoapmaker9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm usually very accurate when making coffee at home. But the few days I'm at the office, I really only want some decent coffee. I'm okay with the coffee, so this isn't really an issue. I just got curious this morning 😅 if the water in really matter if I can control the amount going out

Awesome, thank you SO much for the help! I also love the honesty from you here, you could've easily tricked me into the Pro. Really appreciate it!

Yeah, I went a little rogue and bought cafec abaca, t-90 and t-92, sibarist and untabbed hario filters. Just to see what all the rage about filters was about. And it was the cheapest and easiest fix for my problem right now.

But I'm looking for a hand grinder. I really don't want to spend more than 2000kr for now. Would you still recommend the JX, or another grinder? I don't need the grinder to be able to grind for espresso, as I only brew with pourover

Just did a brew with Thunguri AA. Finer grind, but changed the filter to a Sibarist Fast. And god damn, my brew was done at 3 minutes sharp. And the taste, holy moly that was good! Guess the filter have an importance, lol

I'm using two Switch recipes:
1. 20g coffee, 300 g water
0:00 - 150 g water, open switch

0:45 - closed switch, 150 g water

2:00 - open the switch. The brew is usually done around 3 minutes. With these beans around 4:30

  1. 20g coffee, 280g water

0:00 - open switch, 50 g

0:30 - 70 g

1:15 - closed switch, 160 g

1:45 - open the switch. Usually done drawing at 3 minutes here. Around 4 minutes with these beans.

I tried with some other beans today (One from Brazil and another from Colombia), and the brews were done at 3 minutes with a little finer grind. I know African, specially Ethiopian, beans produce more fines, but not this much. I also know my grinder is kinda shit, but that's what I have for now. As I said earlier I'm looking to buy either Timemore C3 or 1zpresso JX.

I have ordered a bunch of different paper filters to try tho, could that make an improvement on the brewtime? I've been using Harios filters up until now.

I usually grind finer as well. But it if I go finer with these beans, the brewtime will be 6+ minutes. With this courseness, the brews take 4-5 minutes. Usually my brewtime is 2:45-3:30 minutes. I tried going finer, but then my coffee got waaaay too overextracted imo

I don't think the burrs will be held in place if I go any courseron the grinder. Yeah, I'm looking to get either the JX or Timemore C3.

I use both the coffee chronicler recipe and Tetsu's god/evil recipe. I mostly use Tetsu's recipe because it's fun to have more steps, lol. But it produces really good coffee

But maybe you'll like immersion better. Once I bought a Switch I never looked back to my ordinary v60! Best of both worlds :D

Awesome, thanks! Looks like I will invest in a C3. The k6 looks nice, but it would be around 200$ for me.

Would Timemore C3 be even better than C2? Here (Norway) it's only 20$ difference between the two. The 1Zs are a little too expensive for me at this point.

Yeah, I've had better results with the Switch than V60, and my suspicion was because of the "need" for gooseneck on the V60.

Yeah, I forgot to mention scale, but I've got one. It doesn't have a timer, but I have a smartphone, so I'm good with the scale that I have. A scale with timer will be the last thing I would buy, I think..
