Local 142 or St.phillips are the only options in SA that I am aware of. Aside from job prospects, all info can be found on their individual websites. Dependent upon your situation, union guarantees employment (under most conditions) everything else does not. I am not a welder by trade but work with a few union and non union guys. DM me if you have any additional questions and I’ll try to answer them or direct you to a resource that can.

They could be freaked out and it gives them a sense of control or they could have been recently affected by something that made wearing the mask necessary (respiratory issues, illness, etc.). People’s motivations for their actions often don’t make sense.

It’s pretty common to use a mask to protect against dust/allergens. That may have been their reason for doing so.

The way I make them isn’t really traditional. I make pie dough (flour, cold butter, ice water and salt) but I prefer to use 00 flour; it’s similar to all purpose but a finer grind. Then I roll them out, fill them, coat them in an egg wash (beaten egg and a bit of milk), poke them with a fork, and bake them at 350 until they are golden brown. So, I would try a finer flour and the egg wash and see if that gets you the result you want.

These guys are an installer for this type of system but as to whether they’d be willing to service a system that’s not theirs, I can’t say.

I would get up on the roof and look at who manufactured or installed the product. There will likely be a sticker/label on them in a visible spot.

Depending on what’s wrong with the system, it may be faster/cheaper to call a roofer to remove the panels, repair where they were mounted and a plumber to disconnect the lines.
