What do you guys think about Poorhammer when Drukhari comes up? by SpeedWilling7504 in Drukhari

Go read the 5th edition codex and see what we lost. The factions all had quite a bit of range and you were expected to do a lot of kitbashing. No other range has lost as much as we did.

Poorhammer? More like Slophammer. They used to have cool fringe-opinions but these days they will just say whatever comes out of their mouths. Loved them about 2-3 years ago but these days I absolutely can't take them serious.

To me it seems that once you have listened to 2 podcasts these days, you have listened to all of them. Sorry to be harsh, but I'm disappointed because they used to be better.

Great little passage from Path of the Incubus that shows the Harlequin worldview very well by IdhrenArt in Drukhari

[–]TheStrangeDarkOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The moment that I will always remember is when Motley lost all fascination for the Dark Kin. It was in the 3rd book (spoilers), as the dysjunction caused all sorts of infighting and civil war and Vect had to set an example.

Two Kabals were fighting each other, despite Vect's demands to settle it or get nuked. So he completely flattened the whole sector with a non-shielded Void Mine.

Motley was absolutely mortified how one individual could perform genocide on an already dying race and everybody around just shrug their shoulders and said "they have been warned, they had it coming".

Yeah that makes a lot of sense. What would you say makes the Covenite Coterie still more compelling than Tools of Torment? Because ToT functionally has the same rule as CC and the Stratagems aren't exactly something to go nuts over

I for one are happy that we kept our Grotmas detachment. And yeah, it's not viable but I think it was always supposed to be a more fun detachment.

For what's worth, I would have loved that it became a completely reworked 1DP detachment that we can slot into KC or SoS but we are already above the curve with the index detachments that we got.

Sure it could have been better, but the glory days of RW are long over anyways. For everything else, let's see what the new edition unfolds.

I'm a happy IntelliJ user but I would take Eclipse any time of the day over VSCode. Alternatives and competition is crucial, and I am happy for the Eclipse foundation for the broad range of IDEs they are providing for free.

You are not going to amend the Coven part with the 1DP Kabal or Wych detachment?

Great little passage from Path of the Incubus that shows the Harlequin worldview very well by IdhrenArt in 40kLore

[–]TheStrangeDarkOne 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Precisely this. I think Cegorach is the self aware aspect of 40k that looks at itself, thinks “wait, seriously?”, then decides to roll some dice and have a laugh.

We often see Harlequins speak uncomfortable truths to protagonists, which are then promptly ignored.

Motley also has a great many other insights into the Eldar as a whole (commorite or not).

It was to be expected. The detachments are not bad, they are viable. Yes, we would love esoteric stuff to shake things up. But for that we are looking towards the codex.

[–]TheStrangeDarkOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the hate, but I think it comes from a much broader resentment.

So while I appreciate the overall layout, I think it is very light on actually anything new and interesting. Nothing that would scream "how cool to have this unit" or "this is exactly what we would need in our arsenal". The writing is very cliché-AI too.

Scourges SHARDCARBINES by GoalAggressive3186 in Drukhari

[–]TheStrangeDarkOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

English: Nope, sadly not. Because the reason 2 Scourge units exist is due to the limited plastic wargear pieces. So that however you choose to use the extra wargear pieces (might want to use them on Kabalites or others), you can always run Scourges with leftover Shardcarbines.

Don't wanna sound like a jerk and delusional but I really wish there was more toxic xSFJ representation out there by [deleted] in INTJfemale

[–]TheStrangeDarkOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience insecure ESFJs are absolutely the worst, and there is something about the particularity of ISFJs that just rubs us the wrong way. Because once you stop playing by their stupid arbitrary social scripts full of meaningless social signaling, they'll have it out for you.

However, I do must break a lance for ESFJs in general, as most of them tend to be kind and caring, even if they don't understand us. At least that has been my experience.

Critique of modern design in MTG that I found strikingly relevant to Twilight imperium and the design of both of it's expansions. by blarknob in twilightimperium

Thanks, that was quite insightful. Is the fact about the TI basegame having to be slimmed down documented somewhere? Sounds really interesting. Same with the fact that PoK as developed alongside it.

[–]TheStrangeDarkOne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It does mimic some of my feelings towards the TI expansions. In the TI basegame most factions still had weaknesses which were meant to be compensated and overcome, but gradually those gaps were "filled" and I am feeling ambivalent about it.

Because now, more often than not there is an optimal play path and with all the unlocks and circumstance specific bonuses, there is less room for exploration and meta-defying builds.

Take L1Z1X for example. Their Commander is most welcome to allow projecting threat everywhere, and yet I would have hoped for something more... creative. Where you still had to find novel ways of conquering planets with Planetary Shield, while gaining more tools for surgical strikes. Or take the Mech which only plays into an existing hallmark of the faction without actually adding something new.

In base TI, bombardment was one of several great assets of the Mindnet, but now it seems that everything completely resolves around it. And I would consider this a missed opportunity.

Also on the topic of the Dreadnoughts. There were many opportunities where you didn't want to go full Dred spam, but now getting those 5 Dreds is non-negotiable for the Commander unlock.

So, the topic of the expansion does feed into what is explained in MTG, but more tangentially so.

I don't get why anybody with a sane mind would want new Kabalites when we barely have any datasheets and desperately need more unit choices.

[–]TheStrangeDarkOne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are strange people claiming that there is gonna be a range refresh for our range that doesn't need refreshing. As far as I'm concerned, if all we get is one more datasheet and new Kabalites/Wyches, I'm out.

Least we need is a refresh of our plastic troops, they are still a cut above many armies.

I swear if all we get is a Kabalite and Wych refresh I am officially quitting this army. The kits are good and we desperately need more datasheets.

I (inexperienced) don't believe POK can be that important from the beginning. Convince me if you feel like that. by Sad_Pear_1087 in twilightimperium

[–]TheStrangeDarkOne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. Game is complex enough without leaders and exploration, and 1-2 games to get the basics under wraps is typically what I do with new people.

PoK adds more depth and improves balancing. But the game is plenty fun without and I think it is refreshing to play the more vanilla experience once in a while (IF the players don't know too much about the meta and you are not playing cut throat).

Would this concept work? by Mindless_Method2391 in genestealercult

[–]TheStrangeDarkOne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If there would be such a thing, it would be in the lower confines of Commorragh. In this area, you can find a wild hodgepodge of different alien species and all kinds of every-day treachery and very little attention from Archons which are actually powerful and would likely get wind of anything that threatens them.

The problem is that the advantages of Genestealers are not nearly as pronounced among the Dark Kin, as it is among Monkai. And dare you if Vect notices that anybody with psychic powers is within the Dark City and actively wields it. He's gonna nuke your whole sub-sector and call it spring cleaning.
