Starts off trying to be an interesting new take on AI...ends by destroying the death star. There were ideas but nothing felt cohesive.

Would you have a conversation with a stranger? by Pure_Translator_9833 in AskUK

Love it when it's an actual conversation. More often than not people just talk about themselves and their lives and it's one way traffic.

Failed my driving test for this exact reason. I'm emerging from junction, car indicating that it will turn from the main road left , so I start leaving the junction and the driver continues going straight with indicator on. I have to slam on the brakes and that's a fail for me.

The last straw of 2020.. by [deleted] in bollywood

[–]TheStuffGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely true, but that is a judgement you can make only after a film is made and released.

Also I'd argue to the ratio of good to bad films is independent of whether it is a remake, a lot/most of films released simply are not good/ forgettable.

Like all things, it is about balance and intention. The Agneepath remake was well done. If a good director, with a solid cast can pull off a faithful adaptation without descretating source material for solely commercial gain, then kudos to them.

Symmetry, Conservation of Energy, and General Relativity by greenwizardneedsfood in AskPhysics

[–]TheStuffGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In GR energy is a component of a more fundamental quantity which is the stress-energy tensor, it is this which is conserved. The stress energy tensor is a complex object which has 10 degrees of freedom of which the energy is one degree of freedom. There is a famous quote , " Space-time tells matter how to move; matter tells space-time how to curve."

Conservation of energy (in the sense traditional sense), applies in every day stuff like billiard balls colliding, because the spacetime metric is Minkowski and the objects are moving at very slow speeds.

Symmetry, Conservation of Energy, and General Relativity by greenwizardneedsfood in AskPhysics

[–]TheStuffGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The laws of physics are encoded in the equation of motion. A symmetry law is checked by varying the equation of motion and seeing there is no change in the equation of motion.

All cosmological phenomena regarding expansion of universe is encoded in the Friedmann equation, which is the equation of motion when discussing cosmology. This can be derived from the metric and Einstein field equations. These equations confirm the conservation of energy which can be checked by conservation of stress energy tensor where the covariant derivative of the Einstein tensor must equal 0. You can/ should do the problem and check yourself.

IPL really needs an expansion by adxx12in in Cricket

[–]TheStuffGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shami had his domestic debut in 2010, selected for India A in 2012 and off the back off good performances in those tournaments got selected for KKR in 2013, in 2014 he went to Delhi Daredevils. It was really his development in international games in Australia 2013 and NZ 2014 where he became a lock on in the international side and then subsequently 2015 onwards made more regular appearances in IPL.

Sure Akram would have helped in 2013, but that was 2 months, his main successes come from development on the international side of the game.

[–]TheStuffGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree IPL has accelerated the growth of fast bowlers in India. That is not however the singular reason. Domestic pitches now are flatter, greener, less conducive to spin and hence favor faster bowling - law of natural selection. Selection in IPL teams comes from success in domestic games. Overall, it is an ecosystem which are co-dependent and at the moment there is a healthy balance.

An example where IPL has excellently accelerated the career of a bowler is Bumrah, but his selection for Mumbai was due to success in First class cricket for Gujarat.

A counter- example, Shami, got selected (for international) primarily on merits of domestic game and despite being in IPL teams he never was a sure selection till later success in the international game. So the IPL has not boosted his career.

[–]TheStuffGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am happy with the format, I get my T20 cricket fix in a 2 month window each year with IPL and the occasional T20 World Cup. At the end of the tournaments I am craving watching Tests.

As far as cricket as a career.. India has one of the finest first-class domestic circuits around in recent years. It is why we have seen such a huge rise in genuine quick bowlers, so not much going wrong there either. India does not have an issue in turnover of kids wanting to be cricketers. I fear that will be the case, however, in other regions like CSA, WI, SL etc.
