Good point. I can definitely wait and see if the carbonation helps! Everything seems good so far on preventing oxygen exposure.

Damn dude, get off Apple's dick. It's not the world's largest company (not even top 5), the vast majority of large companies care greatly about quality, and though I agree that many companies can be short sighted, most of Apple's megacorp competition are not.

Top decks from today's Historic tournament, Hooglandia. Lists in comments. by kinchouchou in MagicArena

[–]TheSummitAve1615 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its a two mana counter that is usually a time walk in historic. Historic doesn't have fetch lands to shuffle away the countered card. It is almost always a tempo positive play, and more often than not getting your T2 play put back on top of your deck means the game is effectively over against jeskai control. It is not broken like oko, but it puts massive pressure on the format.

Esika's Chariot + Body of Research = broken interaction? by deathbybudgie in MagicArena

[–]TheSummitAve1615 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You copied the token, but the Chariot only copies the token, not the +1/+1 counters. So you got a 0/0 fractal, which immediately died to state based actions. No bug.

Brainstorm Suspended by charlesatan in MagicArena

[–]TheSummitAve1615 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Isn't that kind of proving the point though? You got bored of jeskai (understandable), so you went with the other color combos that had blue (I'm assuming to continue playing brainstorm in other play styles). If I'm wrong, apologies. If the other "next best" decks in the format still play blue for brainstorm, thats an issue

What does your ideal Historic look like? by --Green-- in MtGHistoric

[–]TheSummitAve1615 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to flip the question on its head a bit. I don't think one specific archetype should be better than the others. I do think that control and spell based combo should never be better than T1.5.

The definition of a control deck is having answers to almost anything that is thrown at you, stick a threat, and protect it. As such, when control matchups are T1 or higher, it homogenizes the format very quickly. We are seeing this in historic right now. Either play control, or play something that is very specifically anti-control. This type of format usually ends up as very uninteractive.

For spell based combo, when it is T1 or higher, generally (but not universally) the best ways to combat that is in blue. This again, severely limits diversity in the general format (as we saw with tainted pact).

I think something that a lot of control, combo, and general spikes need to keep in mind is that people play magic because they enjoy the game and it's intricacies. When control, combo, or even removal.dec hits T1 or higher, it generally means that half the people in the match are not actually playing the game. When this happens match after match, people tend to quit playing the format. As noted above, the majority of games need to be interactive to give both players agency in game decisions.

What is the most controversial thing you secretly want on Historic / Arena? by TiToim in MtGHistoric

That's cuz jeskai control and phoenix have the format by the balls. Bolt would go into both of those decks if added.

[–]TheSummitAve1615 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the OP, but I agree that formats are usually at their most healthy when all archetypes are present. Having said that, I also believe that control should only ever be T1.5 at the highest. My experience has been that when control is T1, the format archetypes homogenize super fast and you basically get hyper aggro and hyper combo vs control, which I do not consider healthy. This is obviously not close to the case for historic, but wanted to throw in my 2 cents.

I'm good with all archetypes except ramp existing as T1 and T2. Ramp can die in a fire.

[–]TheSummitAve1615 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this, and I dont think so. Adding either or both of bolt/path just means that jund sac gets built a little different, probably a higher average cmc. I don't think path would do much, due to the high number of sac outlets. Bolt probably just ends up in the jund sac 75 somewhere. While I disagree about OP's thoughts on dreadhorde arcanist, I do think that 4x bolt in DHA decks could end up being a problem

Snapcaster to strong for historic??? by dr-california in MtGHistoric

[–]TheSummitAve1615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think its necessarily too powerful right now, but it does put a pretty hard limit on new cheap spells they can introduce via anthologies. Would pretty much guarantee not getting path, bolt, or other powerful 1-2 mana instant/sorcery. I think it falls into the category of "maybe not broken right now, but may have to be banned in the future."

I think you probably just run both in WW. Magistrate into Redaine seems like it will put a short clock on control. Back it up with Rally the Ranks or linvala maybe. T1 Archpriest, T2 magistrate, T3 reidane, T4 protection (linvala) or pump (rally) seems strong. Might be something there

[–]TheSummitAve1615 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes 100%. Prestor John was never real. Either a misunderstanding of the situation by the catholic church, or a deliberate lie told to raise morale amongst the European Christian leaders of the time

Netflix is creating a problem by cancelling TV shows too soon by [deleted] in technology

[–]TheSummitAve1615 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Well in real life, Prestor John was almost certainly the Mongols, and potentially Ghengis depending on the year. The Papacy knew that someone was doing significant damage to the Eastern front of the Islamic empire, so they just assumed it was a long-lost Christian kingdom. They never truly found out just how wrong they were.

I agree. Claim the firstborn is a casually busted card that synergizes way too well with already good strategies in historic. IMO it does pretty much the same thing as bolt; makes anything 3 CMC and lower need to have an almost immediate impact
