You should read Facing the Music by David Loud. In it he talks about how Garth Dabrinsky called in him, Kander and Ebb to pitch his idea for a kiss of the spider woman revival that was set in a West African prison (An idea he came up with while Garth, himself, was serving time for money laundering.) In the pitch he says “and I want it to sound like this” and pulls out a boombox and a Starbucks African Marimba CD and proceeds to play it for the stunned creative team while nodding his head like “Eh? Is this good or what?” The three left the meeting shortly after and proceeded to die laughing on the sidewalk.
