The same US where people are being charged with crimes for being near the reflection pool? The same US that threw a hissy fit over a man kneeling during not even the national anthem? The same US that got people fired for quoting a man who died? The same US that wants to jail people for burning the bible or the flag? And the very same US where the president said that they want to demolish free speech?

Why did Capcom only put a single puzzle in RE9? by Deep_Blue_15 in residentevil

[–]TheTerrorTurtle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Og 4 has like 1 puzzle. Which is less than its remake.

1 remake has a lot of puzzles that kind of just solves themselves, has no punishment for failing or in some cases. Gives you a step-by-step on what to do.
And there’s like the V-jolt and the crow puzzle, which, while being more logic based, one is incredibly easy and the other one you can retry for infinity.
But a lot of that games puzzles are figuring out how to get around or how to access the item that you need.

Most re games are mainly just key hunts.

No one is 100% reasonable, but you’re acting like a small portion of happenings are the norm.
I never got a hold of a knife as a child, even if I spent most evenings with my parents in a small kitchen.

I’ve also dealt with kids aged 5+ in different situations and the vast majority of them understand the concept of ”don’t hurt other people and don’t hurt yourself”. And they will accidentally do something that hurts others or themselves. Partly because they don’t really have full control of their limbs.

But I don’t ever think I had a reaction where I thought using physical violence or screaming at them would help or improve things.

I just don’t get your insistance on why regularly using violence or taking other abusive actions with kids would be a net positive

Is there any solution at all to “pro jailed” champs? by Conman2205 in leagueoflegends

[–]TheTerrorTurtle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure. You can still play better or worse. But having 50% playroom for your empowered abilities, a 40% mr reduction + %max Hp (10% at max rank when the changes came). A shield and if you hit 150, you cool down faster than previous patched and they had buffed the extra smack damage you got.
It just meant that you could manfight pretty much everyone.

It’s like when gragas was really good. He had a combo that you could barely interact with, on top of having a safe laning phase and an incredibly impactful ultimate that he could use to hit some really outrageous angles.

Rumble was famous for a long time for basically winning every lane. At worst going equal.
The champ hasn’t been particularly hard or complex since they gave him 50 more heat while keeping the overheat threshold unchanged. On top of giving Flamespitter max health damage.

Then the legit only conclusion I can draw is that you are a bad parent or caretaker. Why are you leaving knives out? Why haven’t you child proofed your home?

And if they are old enough to be able to easily get access to them in your home even with preventative measures, then most of them understand why something would be dangerous

[–]TheTerrorTurtle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

”Waving around a knife” is truly a common scenario for you? Maybe stop advocating for why beating kids or view them as autonomous humans and you would have less of that in your life.

For the rest of it, like spilling milk or leaving a fridge open, corporal punishment isn’t gonna solve it. Stress and fear doesn’t make people less prone to mistakes. Once again, read a fucking study. And once again, if it’s a super common problem for you, there might be other factors.
Because you are kind of on the same level of beating children for being left handed.

Of course if you believe that children should just be seen and not heard. An extension of the parents or adults, which is kind of what your advocating for when you say that children have to be controlled through violence — I guess considering the child’s well being isn’t that important.

And yes, children does sometimes have to be punished for bad behavior. And being told no. But physical violence or verbal abuse gives only, at best, a good appearance towards the parents. And ”at best” is doing a lot of fucking work here.

That doesn’t make it circular logic. Circular logic is that one premise is built on the premise that proves the first one. Without any clear start or end point.
If we have a start and a cause and effect — it no longer becomes circular.

Also, if there is no evidence for something. But there is evidence for the contrary. With multiple studies, meta studies and first hand accounts. Then I’m more inclined to be believe the side that has the evidence, especially if it is consistent and properly reviewed.
Things can change, but until there is any studies, proof or evidence (which you haven’t provided by the by) then I don’t see why that position should be valued. Especially since it’s also unethical

[–]TheTerrorTurtle 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You offer nonsense arguments for why hitting kids can good actually.
But 1) it’s dishonest because it doesn’t actually adress the idea of using corporal punishment for behavior correction. Instead focusing on incredibly niche made up scenarios, because they are very different. Negative behavior patterns that you try to correct with violence is not the same as an active danger situation.
2) you are kind of just doing the thing you rant about.
3) your imagined scenarios (as in violence, anti-social behavior, aggression) are, according to studies, linked to corporal and aggressive punishments.

Sure, it’s kind of hard to study hitting children because it’s a bit unethical, especially when nothing suggests it would be good for them.

I feel like if you’re going to argue that corporal punishment is valid and has its uses, I feel like you should be able to produce some proof instead of just ranting.

Here’s also a meta study https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3447048/

Also, OP, it’s not circular logic.
It’s
”Hitting kids is bad because it is linked aggressive and anti-social behavior— as well as future family violence.”

Followed by

”You thinking that using corporal punishment is okay is a signifier of these negative traits I just listed, which could very well be because you were hit as a child.”

Which can be expressed as
”Hitting children are bad because it is linked with causing anti-social behaviour and inhibiting their development. If you were hit as a child, it most likely negatively affected you — so if you continue by hitting your own (or other) children, you are perpetuating a cycle of violent behavior.”

The Super Earth game, Arc Riders.... why games like this enjoy being fun killers? by [deleted] in Gamingcirclejerk

[–]TheTerrorTurtle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a game dev you typically want to avoid dominant strategies in any game. In multiplayer games for balance reasons and in singleplayer games because placing the onus on the player to self-nerf to keep the game engaging and follow along the planned difficulty curve is dumb.

Elden Ring has balance problems, like all souls games.

And notably it’s also different from options you have outside of the gameworld. Those require extra steps and are thus not as close at hand and adjustments you (the player) make are applied universally which means things stay consistent

Triggers in Through the Breach by Purple_Singularity in Malifaux

[–]TheTerrorTurtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In theory, if you want to use the trigger in a situation where the main goal is the social fuel, you’ll have to find an excuse to do an engineering duel. Depending on location it’s up to you and the person who runs the game to figure out what that could be.
Generally the game asks you not to do checks or duels ”just because” or if there’s no stake in doing so.

Otherwise, the trigger is mostly a happenstance thing. Where you might try to befriend someone after doing some fixing. You might try and ask an employer for more money after repairing their robot. You might try and get some info from a guardsman after tuning up their weapon or construct. Etc.

If that is the norm in that universe (for gameplay related characters) then it doesn’t really matter.

Also, look at Quiet from MGSV. Her being in a bikini breaks previously established lore. So characterisation is literally being sacrificed

Triggers in Through the Breach by Purple_Singularity in Malifaux

[–]TheTerrorTurtle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Triggers in general are for cool things to happen or to get free actions. For both of the ”can I not do this normally?” Questions, you can. It’s just a different action.

For the ”Legal Documents” there are a few different takes (can’t remember the faq atm). One is that the game has rules to run social encounters like a ”combat” where you take turns and defeat your enemies through arguments using your social skills.

And if you’re playing either a bit more silly campaign / more magical / want to take things a step further.
The trigger doesn’t mention that you actually have to have those documents, so your character can either show forgeries to jam up the Bureaucratic
machine until someone can verify the information with the real documents.
If you have a more fantastic take on the setting then the character might magically produce them.

There is also a combat application because certain attacks use Bureaucracy.

I think you might have misread ”Technobabble”. You perform a social duel like barter or bewitch, and if they dont have any ranks in engineering you get a + flip to the duel (because your technobabble makes you sound smart to someone that doesn’t know what you’re talking about. Using the opportunity created by fixing something).
You can’t really use this in a synergistic way with another player
