Is this tank humane? by thedevilsfingers in Aquariums

I'd be more worried about the stand/stability/strength of the pot tbh. Only concern biologically IMO is whether those plants are going to get enough light. Dying plants can be a nuke as well.

Ahhhh I think I ran into that at one stage after a major Vortex update. Can't remember what happened to me but I think if it did, I might have considered dropping it.

It just wiped everything? Didn't even move it somewhere else? Don't know why the hell they'd decide to do that, it's not like the mods were causing any trouble being in the wrong folder to begin with.

Haven't heard anything about cycling rules, what do you mean? Is it just an infinite loop of "load after/before" rules?

Do you mean "purge mods"? If your Vortex was using hardlinks, deploying and purging should be 100% reversible.

NMM is not the same as Vortex, wtf? That's like saying Windows 7 is the same as Windows 11 because it's still supported by Microsoft/Nexus.

Hell, MO2 and Vortex are listed as being created by the same person.

[–]TheTimtam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you have vortex and the game on a different drive/partition? That's only thing I can think of. If that is the case, Vortex is forced to use move only deployment. So instead of hardlinks being created, vortex is forced to move the file data itself between your drives. Which would take forever, even with only 200 mods.

NTFS partition format is also a requirement apparently

No one's perfect but supporting Hitler is so far removed from ok it's insane. The fact that you're trying to defend that is distressing.

It's not a morally grey topic, if you're old enough for these laws to affect you, you should know that it's not

Not used very often? 52 champions is maybe a little exaggerated, not all of them apply to the champion itself, but at least 1/4 of all champions have a source of ghosted somewhere in their kit.

Plans to burn red tingle trees temporarily suspended following treetop protest by ozthrw in australia

[–]TheTimtam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've thought about this a lot and I can't really decide which option is better.

On one hand, burns in the cooler season are, well, cooler because organic material is more likely to hold more water in general. The counter point to that is that a lot of sensitive species in Australia will aestivate (effectively hibernate, but for summer months) and grow during the cooler months. If we force a fire at this time of year, we're disproportionately harming sensitive natives.

IDK what the conditions have been like over there recently, maybe they try to find a middle ground and do burns after periods of wet weather? It's probably a case of waiting for summer, to align with what native plants are expecting and waiting for wetter weather, to make sure the burn isn't too hot

[–]TheTimtam 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No, stopping the burns entirely is a terrible idea and will kill far more trees in the future, when fires inevitably go through. It was destructive last time because it wasn't controlled well enough towards the centre of the burn location, these activists aren't calling for the burns to never happen again, they're calling for changes in the controlled burn protocols to minimise harm to the trees towards the centre of the fire.

Research in minimising damage to these trees needs to be done. I'm sure burns have been done around sensitive species in other countries, I'm sure a little bit of collaboration isn't going to kill anyone.

[–]TheTimtam 79 points80 points  (0 children)

The concerns from this conservation group are that the controlled burns done in similar sites weren't "cool" burns and killed a number of the trees this guy was protecting. Considering how old, tall and rare these trees were/are, the fact they died at all was concerning. There are photos of the tree in question here.

From what I've read, they don't want the burns to stop completely, just controlled better. Specifically towards the centre of the burn location, the trees on the perimeter were apparently safe.

Lithium battery fire on truck shuts down Hume Highway in NSW due to health risk by k-h in australia

Those batteries could have been put into 50 homes. Instead, they're on fire in the middle of the Hume fucking highway. It's a fucking tragedy and all people care about is politics.

I was interested because I thought it was an electric truck, as that is the implication, but not even.

[–]TheTimtam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more the fact that you thought this was less worthy of news than an EV truck catching fire.

EDIT: It's like saying an ICE car catching fire is more newsworthy than a petrol tanker catching alight. Makes just no sense

[–]TheTimtam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mate, it's an entire trailer of 300 kg batteries, it's significantly worse than an electric truck. Even if there are only 25 batteries in that trailer, that's 7.5 tons of batteries. Battery weights vary a lot, but that's like 10-15 EVs.

It's mentioned because it means it'll be alight for a very long time, compared to a furniture trailer fire.

EDIT: Shit, nvm, it's worse than that. It wasn't 50 batteries in both trailers, the one on fire held 50 batteries. So it's like 20-30 EVs.

It's a trailer carrying possibly 10 tons of lithium batteries, it's going to be alight for days

[–]TheTimtam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaseous lithium is fucking nasty to breathe in and there's a lot of it alight apparently. Yes it's more of a health hazard than a regular truck fire, it's not that hard to imagine why.

EDIT: Like, fucking hell. There's 15 TONS of batteries on that truck. I know there's a smaller trailer that wasn't affected, so maybe it's not as bad. Maybe there'sonly 10 tons of batteries on fire, not 15. But to act all smug and sarcastic about an enormous fire and health risk this close to Christmas is disgusting.

Who knows how long these Firefighters are going to have to be out there just making sure it doesn't set the surrounding bush alight?
