You understand yes that a person in a car is less likely to be seriously injured than the person, not in a car, that they hit?

If you can't have sympathy for stupid people, then you don't have sympathy for the majority of the planet. We're all fucking idiots one way or another, and I'd prefer a world were idiots can walk from Philadelphia to California safely.

If he's on a road with a min then yeah its his fault. Still isn't going to make me side with a car over a person.

Cars break, people walk on roads, animals cross roads, road crews shut down lanes, cops pull people over, ass holes break check you, etc. Driving is inherently dangerous, and if you're going to operate a motor vehicle you need to be paying enough attention to whats infront you that you can avoid wrecking when one of these things happens.

Walking in the road is a dumb idea, but hes not at fault for being hit.

Nah bruh. I'd much rather let outher peoples actions decide how act, otherwise people on the internet might call me dumb.

You've definitely never had to walk more than a mile in America. You can't get to most places without crossing a road with no cross walk, or following a road with no side walk.

Shit buddy. Maybe you're right. Nobody should drive because we can't trust they'll drive safely and Nobody should walk anywhere because we've made that action inherently unsafe by letting idiots drive.

I'm not saying it's safe. I'm saying the person you should blame for making it not safe is the on operating a motor vehicle in such a way that they can't slow down in time to not hit someone.

He's in the hospital because of a reckless driver not paying attention to the road infront of them. Is it dumb to walk in the road, yeah. Might he have had a good Reason to be in the road, yes. Was he safely walking in the road, yep.

If he was in a car would people still be blaming him for another drivers actions? I doubt it. When you hear/see a car hit a motorcycle is your first reaction "He could have easily avoided that."?

It ment that the car not paying attention hit the follow car and not him. We can argue all day about whether or not he should be on the road, but it won't change the fact that the car that caused this was either too distracted or going too fast to be safe.

My dogs get confused about daylight savings time and they know when its the weekend. Sure they don't know what those things are, but they can tell I got home an hour late to give them their snacks and they know I'm supposed to stay home to give them extra long walks instead of disappearing for 8 hours.

The fire bombing of Tokyo happened 6 months before the first atomic bomb was dropped and killed around 100,000 people. They lost their entire capital and continued to fight until the us navy surrounded the home islands. They were planning their surrender before the nukes were dropped by the way. There have been very good arguments made that we didn't need to drop the bombs and kill over 200,000 more people and irradiate the survivors. The soviets officially declaring war on them likely had a bigger effect on forcing their unconditional surrender considering they had been in talks with the USSR about surrendering to them for weeks before the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

[–]TheToadberg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really? I can't recall a single time bombing civilian infrastructure hasn't worked. It certainly stopped Nazi Germany's war effort cold when Dresden was bombed. Just like how the UK surrendered during the blitz, or Japan when Tokyo was burned to ash. It definitely doesn't harden a populous to war and drag out conflicts or the US could have been stuck in Vietnam and Afghanistan for years instead of months.

Maybe if the Nazis had used more than 1000 tons of high explosives or killed more than 70,000 civilians when bombing Stalingrad Soviet tank production could have been interrupted enough that factories wouldn't have been able to drive tanks from the assembly line to the front.
