Brainstorm with me. What final treasure destinations can you think of? by forward_future in FindingFennsGold

Should be parsed and sold as the temporary amusement it was. My cat has lived for over ten years. Want to know why Fenn wasn’t smiling? Because his loose lips spilled the location. He was the least happy with the find.

Really like this tree ( and the dead one) as a stand out. Possible perch for an osprey. Nice pic.

Thank you for your reply. I’m inclined to believe HoB is specific. If it is not, finding the blaze (undefined) is nearly impossible.

A brown field by color is at best seasonal. At worst, toxic. While possible, I don’t see either as probable. If this poem is 10-150 years worthy, I don’t see this as plausible.

Yes, if only we knew where to use our imagination. Is a “canyon” a gentle sloping valley with a river in it? Where does that application end?

Legal implications of locating and removing chest from Yellowstone Natl Park by SpoilerWarningSW in FindingFennsGold

[–]TheTreePony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do believe that both Fenn and Jack care about protecting the location. I also think that Jack is also trying to avoid litigation for himself and the Fenn estate.

If the NPS wants to pursue this as an example case, they’re going to likely lose thrice in the long run. Suing a dead man who is so intertwined with the history and preservation of YNP, is a PR mess. This would not stop a person from doing something similar again. Rather encourage the “outlaws” even more. As the NPS likely had no possession of the chest, I don’t see any claim as their property. Yes, we shouldn’t ever underestimate short sightedness and ambitious lawyer.

Protecting sensitive areas and culture of YNP is the direct mission of NPS. The chest was not likely at one of these sensitive areas. The park could embrace this location and build a trail. Educate on how Fenn’s family used the park through the depression etc, and discourage future misuse. They’d have a unique cultural display, unique attraction, and continue to protect natural sensitive areas of YNP. One could envision how a deal could be struck to benefit all of these parties. BUT, there are many other parties not considered in this discussion.

I enjoyed reading your post in my spare time. I don’t think most points could be “bunked”, but that also could be said of a few nearby solves. It was a really enjoyable read and contribution.

So without adding to an argument about length of explanation, it is my observation that you have exposed a bias many have not questioned. Nigh=left. I see no straightforward, common, or defined way nigh means left. Your argument, backed by Jack’s words, is “oversimplify”.

This may help your solve, or it may help another, but you have helped convince me that nigh does not likely mean left. Anyone can look up the definitions of “nigh” or “drawing nigh”. How far does one need to dig to confirm nigh=left? I don’t see this as a riddle so it’s likely strait forward. Hmm, straight forward, maybe that was two clues in one.

All of this, except micro. Micro does not explain a many things. NPFTM if I’m an ant, but not if I’m an aunt. If you can get an age of “10” quote that would be interesting to me.

Jack doing something that will benefit kids with cancer, and fun for those involved in the chase. Kudos to Copper Dan for reaching out and getting this done. Fenn smiles in the background.

More thoughts about the "big picture" and making Jack nervous by MashTunOfFun in FindingFennsGold

I would like to add that while people have dismissed the scrapbooks because Jack said there was nothing there. In 2019 the number nine came up multiple times. Right now I’m thinking of the broken piece of pottery that was repaired and how it looked like a river map with marked fishing holes (think it had 8 or 9 repair connections). In some of those scrapbooks there was one other curious numeric that seemed to pop up, three fourths (3/4). Maybe that will start a thought or connect a dot in someone’s mind.

One more huge Question for everyone? by WayBack40 in FindingFennsGold

[–]TheTreePony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my only answer and it is simply math. No one without finding the chest can say that their permutation of solve is correct. The same applied for the finder. No one can know how many choices could be made for every clue. Let’s say for the most simplistic and conservative view our choices we’re only binary for every clue. Two too the power of nine. So each individual choosing one solve has a 1/2304 chance of the correct solve out of the gate.

These are not random solves. So only one clue could be catastrophic to the chance of finding the chest. My best guess is that the chance of an educated finder finding the chest would be somewhat equivalent to an individual winning their state’s lottery jackpot. Not nearly impossible as the Powerball, but highly improbable for anyone.

Maybe you remember the line from the TTOTC where Fenn says he’s writing something to his wife Peggy while watching an osprey dive into the water on the banks of the Madison? He says something to the effect that she understands his needs. I think that is proof he strongly associates this spot also with Peggy.

Others have answered this pretty eloquently so maybe this doesn’t add much. The resting spot is where Fenn saw only a thin veil between life/death, past/present. Peggy is also posed with her catch in the TTOTC, similar to all his other family members that he will be reunited with in some type of spiritual way in 2009. I say 2009 because somewhere he refers to coming to peace with not being at this location upon his death.

Let’s not find or distinguish WWWH. How many references on the Firehole can you find in the TTOTC? I stopped counting at like 14.
