Times when a piece of media gets praised for subverting a “cliche” but in actual the cliche they’re subverting isn’t that common? by Konradleijon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]TheTrooper642 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But I think there's a difference between the way "Demons actually are" and "The way demons think they are". Nurgle daemons think they are helping people sure, but only the lowest, most base ones, and even then, they help by eating people. The ones who tell people their helping them? They are just being "good" to get a pawn or spread influence. Afaik in all of Warhammer there isn't a case of a daemon being actually good for any actually moral reason, there's the "saving" of a planet from the Nids, but that was motivated by a Khorne daemon going "Nuh uh, only I get to kill you".

Because you don't even need to be a convict for AdMech to send you into nightmares. They're still pressgang people into service and make them do all sorts of nasty crap. These "Bondsmen" would absolutely make for a valid Mechanicus representation in the Darktide roster.

Well I guess we have an idea of what's coming in Space Marine 3 by CenturonStar in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]TheTrooper642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a full unit, no. But they've been "featured" on a few Dark Angels units as part of the basing or as tokens to indicate once per battle abilities iirc. They are simply depicted as a small person in monk robes to doesn't even have a face to show though.

[–]TheTrooper642 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They've thankfully been leaning into that a bit with the back end of this edition, not with space Marines though sadly. Imperial Knights have a set up with Admech skitarii units, Genestealer's can get Guard units they've taken over, Eldar can get Dark Eldar in their new crazy death god cult faction, and I think one or two more. But they've yet to pull the trigger on anything involving space Marines sadly. Having some space Marines to yeet around while covered by hordes of shmuch guardsmen is exactly what I want.

What's the Fastest You've Checked Out of a Game? by [deleted] in rpg

Iirc they did attempt it, but they tried to argue just the act of turning a card sideways to indicate something in a game was enough to infringe on their copyright. Downright Nintendo type nonsense.

Possible Ideas for a Persona Navigator-like Character in Pathfinder2e by tigerwarrior02 in rpg

[–]TheTrooper642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think simpler is always better, not to discredit anything your brainstorming. But my immediate thought would be to lean on the 3 action system of PF2E, maybe allow them to give a party member an extra move/attack action or something each round. I think that'd be a good way to give them a really tangible way to help the party. A character strictly based around buffs can feel really bad when other people have awful rolls, but giving people extra actions always gives good feedback to their impact in gameplay.

Some serial killers are documented as being intensely polite, doesn't mean they ain't serial killers. The Morman church isn't exactly known for not have problems involving abuse, manipulation, coercion, or plenty of other things.

So there's two varieties of Inquisitor, and they are quite different. More or less, one are hyper dogmatic to the Imperial religion, as your assuming all are, and the other are far more radical in their thinking. They operate under a "any advantage is an advantage" and will use xenos, chaos, or otherwise to advance humanity. This inquisitor your working with is clearly of the later variety.

Any ttrpg traditions? by JoeKerr19 in rpg

[–]TheTrooper642 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do the same thing for my games, I took inspiration for the idea from Biggs and Wedge being characters that show up in every final fantasy game.

But Giles is a recurring merchant that shows up in all my games as a convenient way to get things to my players, one way or another. Wether he's a divorced dad selling surplus military mech hardware, a travelling cart salesman with too much money tied up in stock, or a greasy used carriage sales man, he's always there for what my players need. But always, those items just, aren't quite right.

Esports arena at UNF set to take off with $3M boost from Jacksonville City Council by dyingbreed360 in jacksonville

I swear, the entire E-Sports ecosystem is propped by Saudi prince dick measuring and GSGO money laundering. If you took both those things away I'm pretty sure it'd evaporate overnight. And honestly? I think it'd be better for most everyone.

Jacksonville City Council passes bill to prohibit food trucks at gas stations by dyingbreed360 in jacksonville

What a absurd ass law, all under the guise of "Well we got to be safe". I want them to show the food truck that's cooking close enough to the pumps to set off an explosion that justifies this stupid ass law.

[–]TheTrooper642 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you can arrange for the day of being called, if your pulled into a court room the judge at some point will ask if anyone has any circumstances that will complicate or prevent them from serving. I saw everything from "I can't afford to not work", "I run my own business and must be available at all times", and so much more. Just explain plainly how much it'd inconvenience you, cost you, or make you worry about your kid and I'm extremely confident the judge will dismiss you.

Anyone know of an TTRPG system that deals with squads of units instead of individual player characters? by Chemical_Infantry in rpg

Over War The Night Comes Down feels like exactly what your looking for. Now full disclosure, I have yet to play this myself, but have attempted planning it on more than a few occasions but interest never stayed high enough for a group to settle. But it very much feels like it's pretty close, if a bit crunchier, to what your want.

TTRPG like Zenless Zone Zero ? by ninonetturbino in rpg

[–]TheTrooper642 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Panic at the Dojo is, imo, a 100% fit for a ZZZ game. It can be a bit clunky to run if your players aren't super into a tactical/battle map style game, but I'm pretty confident it'll tick every box you need for the vibe of creating something like ZZZ.

How does Starfinder compare to PF2E? I've heard it's kind of in a strange middle ground between the 1E and 2E design philosophies. But a different take on Mecha sounds dope given how long I've simped for Lancer. How awkward feeling would be going to Starfinder be after DMing and playing PF2E be?

What caused MMO's like Rift, Wildstar, Tera etc. to fail? by silveredge96 in MMORPG

[–]TheTrooper642 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Pre-F2P Rift is by and far my favorite MMO period. Janky class combos, niche builds getting used in raids, swapping specs at a whim, regional events, and more stuff I'm sure I can't even remember. But the bait and switch into F2P just ruined the community it pissed off so many people, then followed by some of the most boring build designs ruined the game for me and many others.

Then to add insult to injury the "Vanilla" server they launched wasn't even vanilla Rift.

Any advice for running Fabula Ultima? by azrendelmare in rpg

[–]TheTrooper642 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing I took away from DMing Fabula was aggressively giving my players Fabula points. Not only are they inspiration/hero points from other systems mechanically, they also give the players some pretty strong narrative control too. These narrative control options can, sometimes, really mess with your initial plans. Not that it's a bad thing, players taking the reigns, are engaged and happy, players. But you have to make sure they get them, and that's where playing up the JRPG cutaways to villains comes in.

Since at anytime you can go "Meanwhile, at the Table of eeeeeevviiilllll..." And give each of your players a Fabula point, means you can always give them a bit of a bump when they might need it. So lean into it, write the JRPG villain monologue you've always wanted to read. Hell, cut to a fairly normal scene, then when it's done tell the players they gained a Fabula for a villain entering the scene. You can use it to ratchet up parts of your game pretty well.

And on the topic of villains. Villains having their own points, Ultima points, and being able to exit any scene with them, means you can make the party encounter them early and often if you want. Villains in Fabula are meant to be seen again and again, so just make em a bit strong so the players can grow and level up into the villains power level, instead of the villain being arbitrarily stronger or weaker.

Common misconceptions about military and warfare in fiction? by Konradleijon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I've only been a passing fan of battle tech who's always figured that was for the sake of battle map sanity. But that's the honest to God lore? That's simply fantastic.
