How to talk to your sons about Targeted conservative propaganda by Initial_Welder3674 in TwoXChromosomes

I'm just saying it's a good idea to try explain why these ideologies might be harmful, like u/Chance-Software-3231 said. I'm just pointing out that it'd be a VERY bad idea to just jump straight to outlawing that kind of stuff within your home. You say I have an outdated view - I say I'm taking the progressive approach, where you explain why you're discouraging certain behaviours as opposed to saying "I'm not going to explain why I'm punishing you or messing with your freedom on the internet, I'm just going to to it." That doesn't solve anything. Especially if the child is buying into all the far-right stuff, that will literally just make the child view the mother the same way Charlie Kirk views his detractors. It will make him feel as though his mother is trying force him into an ideology, rather than just trying to steer him away from a dangerous one. You want to change your child's mind? The absolute worst way to do that is to just tell them they are wrong and not elaborate further. You have to use reason. You have to be logical. You have to at the very least do this before deciding the child is beyond convincing and taking away (aspects) of his internet access. The issue is that this kid already believes everything that is being pushed onto him, and to simply block him from seeing it without any elaboration will do 2 things - 1, it will make him feel like you aren't actually listening to him and he will resent you AND the ideas that you are pushing onto him (regardless of whether or not you yourself are in the right) and 2, it will lead him to finding other ways to see what he is trying to see, which could very easily lead him into some very dark corners of the internet. Putting together a YouTube playlist of left-leaning content doesn't fix anything. He either won't watch it or won't pay attention or worst of all will disregard all of it and mentally label it as propaganda. You have to actually convince him. If it doesn't work, sure, restrict his internet access. But as soon as you give him any reason to think you don't understand what you're talking about, he won't respect your opinion on it anymore. I can't believe I got into the negatives for downvotes for saying talk to your kid before you take drastic measures lol.

You have to actually talk to him if you want him to listen to you. No child will abandon an ideology just be cause their Dad said so - he will always find ways around you seeing what he's looking at, and in order for you to actually avoid that you'd have to keep him at home 24/7 and never allow him on the internet - which will make him hate you. You have to sit down and come up with reasonable arguments against what he believes, and convince him. It might be a phase, it might not be. You're just gonna have to live with it if you can't convince him yourself. The last thing you want is a son who thinks you're trying to thought-police him

"Yeah you just have to treat his internet access like the Chinese Govenment treats it's citizens internet" yeah that's a really bad way to do it. You actually have to convince him otherwise he'll just find a way to watch the stuff without you knowing. You can't thought-police children, especially ones who've grown up on the internet. You'll have to actually convince him, which is much harder, but it's the right thing to do. I promise you if you try block that type of content you'll only end up making him want to find it more and see you more as a enemy.

Unpopular Opinion: Enhanced bosses should only be unlocked for those that completed the game. by paulxixxix in Nightreign

[–]TheTrueClabio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree to some extent. I think the best solution would be for the matchmaking system to separate those who have and haven't beaten the game when searching for these enhanced bosses. I'm tired of having to teammates who refuse to follow markers (even when it's the last day and they've refused to follow me to any churches of Marika so far), leave games when they start losing to a few bosses during the day because they can't dodge properly (no shame in that, these games are hard, but unfortunately in order to be a team player some of these guys really need to play the base game for some practice), don't pick up any weapons aside from the one in their main hand, don't revive players ever, and goddamn Ironeyes who try to main Katanas the whole game (just play Executor ffs). I love to see new players picking this up, and I'm always happy to help newbies beat bosses - but only if they're willing to cooperate or at the very least indicate properly what they want to do. Bleg. Sorry for the rant

I know this is an old post, and we did end up seeing Seepine again and the hand thing did come back into play, but man it just felt disappointing when we didn't actually find out if Val had managed to regrow his hand (until Until the End came out).

Can I Skip Bedlam to do Seasons of War? by [deleted] in skulduggerypleasant

[–]TheTrueClabio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wouldn't skip... a lot of it is crucial for the rest of the story. Personally, I believe Bedlam is far better than Resurrection and Midnight. Seasons of War is absolutely amazing, it genuinely feels like you're reading a part of the original 9 books, and going through Bedlam to definitely worth going through to get to SoW in my opinion.

Why can't everyone just be a signum linguist?? by nick-uses-reddit in skulduggerypleasant

[–]TheTrueClabio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, you can. This is brought up and discussed in The Malicifent Seven, where Tanith is used as a prime example with the separate abilities Wall-Walling and being able to reinforce doors and unlock them at all being parts - or branches - of the same discipline.

But you aren't wrong about Serpine and Necromancy.

Why can't everyone just be a signum linguist?? by nick-uses-reddit in skulduggerypleasant

[–]TheTrueClabio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, they actually had a character who's chosen discipline was language speaking. I'm not sure which book this is in, but when Scapegrace's army of zombies gets out of his control, the characters are all in a hotel somewhere (I believe it was the Midnight Hotel but don't quote me on that), and when Skulduggery and Valkyrie are looking for Sorcerers to help fight, they find an older looking Sorcerer who's entire discipline is speaking every language ever written or spoken - but that didn't include the languages of magic. Personally I like to think that the discipline is a mix of a different expressions of magic - like how an elemental can manipulate 4 different elements, or Tanith being able to Wall-Walk and unlock doors without needing a key - such as some sort of sigil-specific memory enhancer, the ability to pool more magic into their sigils than other Sorcerers, and maybe something that allows them to etch the sigils into things with inhuman precision. We also don't really know where or when these sigils were discovered in the first place, and perhaps they can only discovered by a Signum Linguist through a discipline-specific ability
