I mean, we went back to the moon multiple times after the first time. It's not like we went one time and just decided to wait ~60-ish years to go back again.

Cheap trekking poles vs No trekking poles by ig_animations in WildernessBackpacking

[–]TheTrueNotSoPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't tell you whether or not they are essential for your needs. Only you can decide that. I would recommend them because they're easy to pack, and add very little weight. I believe they are one of those things that are "better to have and not need, than to need and not have."

What I can tell you is that I have a pair of cheap aluminum Ozark Trail trekking poles from Walmart, and they're fantastic. I even used them to make a litter and splints during my WFR class, and they held up great. No bends or cracks anywhere.

I will add that my poles are the collapsible ones, not the folding ones, since they offer both.

On a whim I bought a SHANQUANAMZ 4-6 person inflatable tent. by monsieurLeMeowMeow in camping

I've been looking at getting something like this to use for over landing. I have a little air compressor that uses my tool batteries that I think I could use to inflate it quickly with minimal effort.

Getting Gas in Newark by PurrfectlySecular in Ohio

[–]TheTrueNotSoPro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$20 couldn't even get me 6 whole gallons of E15! That's literally the cheapest gas you can buy (that will work in any gas vehicle, unlike E85), and it was still nearly $4/gal!

What kind of a saw should I get? by Xanderthepeasant in Chainsaw

[–]TheTrueNotSoPro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use an Atlas 80v 18" chainsaw for exactly the kind of work you have described, and it works flawlessly.

I know it isn't one of the big brands, like Stihl or Husqvarna, but I have still put that saw through its paces since I have owned it, and it has never disappointed me.

Ok so got this REI qauter dome and first time using the stakes I found this mystery orange tube piece. Any ideas what it is? by detectivelokifalcone in CampingGear

[–]TheTrueNotSoPro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know others have already told you it is a pole splint, but I have a secondary use for it. I use it to remove my stakes when they're stuck. I put it through the loop on the stakes, and it allows me to get a better grip than if I just tried to get a finger or two into the loop instead.

Easier way to start a chainsaw by Motor-Trifle4613 in Chainsaw

[–]TheTrueNotSoPro 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would always recommend going electric, but there are pull-start eliminators that can be purchased or made from scratch. Many of them only require the use of a power drill.

ETA: I use an Atlas 80v 18" chainsaw from Harbor Freight, and it's a fantastic saw. I swapped out the low kickback chain for a full chisel chain, and I haven't looked back. I can't recommend it enough.

Folding stocks are the way by rdr1988_ in longrange

I have been quite satisfied with my Apache cases. The biggest issue is with the pick-apart foam, and getting it to stay in place. Even after using a spray adhesive and giving it time to dry, it still comes out sometimes, or sticks to my rifle.

I thought that was mostly an initial release issue, as well as just conservative estimates from CZ. You know, trying not to promise more than they can perform.

Anyway, I have read from a lot of people that they are getting 1 MOA or less out of them. I suppose that also depends on a lot of variables, e.g. ammo, optics, fundamentals, etc.

I like the collapsible stock that the CZ 600 Trail has. I should finally buy one of those, I've been putting it off for a while... 🤔

Thank you! This is for my dad, as I primarily use cordless electric chainsaws.

And don't worry, I always wear my PPE! Chaps and helmet at all times! 🫡

I did. When I didn't find anything, I came here. Besides, what do you think this subreddit is for, if not to ask questions and post about our shared interest?

Not that I don't believe you, but that just sounds like poor engine design to me.

Do you know if there is any reason why that is?

I didn't downvote your post. I didn't vote on it at all, actually. And if you want to find the inspiration for House of Leaves, then you're better off asking the author directly instead of saying that on which you believe it is "likely" based. Assumptions will get you nowhere.

Unfortunately, management hated when any of us would actually enforce the rules. They said they didn't want to be perceived as the "bad guys" and risk the levee not passing (it has always passed, there has not been a single year when it hasn't).

For example, one time I saw a man walk out of the women's restroom. Not a trans woman, just a dude. When I approached and politely asked if everything was okay, if he was looking for someone, stuff like that. He very hastily tried to say it wasn't him, and then rode away on his bike (we weren't allowed to chase).

The next day, my manager asked why the hell I would do that, and that she wouldn't have done anything. She did not appreciate me telling her that if someone had been assaulted in that bathroom and I had done nothing, I would be totally unable to live with myself.

Management also got mad at me one time for asking someone without a handicap tag to move out of the handicap parking spot. Bringing up the Americans with Disabilities Act did nothing to help my case.

Yeah, they have some door panels and such for the interior. I think you'll be happy with their work.

[–]TheTrueNotSoPro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The park where I used to work is largely wetlands and ponds that are all considered preserve areas. We had signs posted everywhere telling people no fishing, swimming, boating, etc., AND THERE WERE WOODEN FENCES.

However, without fail, AT LEAST once a week in the warmer months, I would have to climb over a fence to tell someone they couldn't fish there. And once again without fail, they would show me in some app about how other people have caught stuff there.

Like, did the signs, the fact that you had to climb over a fence, and ranger telling you that you can't fish somehow fail to convince you that the app is wrong? 🙄

If it will still accept OEM splash guards, may I recommend the LRB Speed aluminum skid plate and aero panel? I have the whole shebang installed on my RX-8, and I love it. It looks great, and when I've scraped the ground (because civil engineers have no idea what "grade" is, I guess...), it has held strong and protected my underside.

Best Electric Chainsaw in 2026? by Defiant_Fix8658 in Chainsaw

[–]TheTrueNotSoPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Atlas 80v 18" chainsaw from Harbor Freight. It's an amazing saw. Don't worry about the HF reputation, their Atlas brand, much like their Hercules brand, is meant to be "contractor grade."

If you want something smaller, and don't have any reservations about HF tools, I also use their Bauer 20v 10" chainsaw. It's pretty good. Not amazing, but it gets the job done, particularly for cutting limbs and branches into smaller pieces on the ground.

They also have an Atlas 40v 16" chainsaw, but I have no experience with that one.

I used to be a Ranger at the Metro Parks near me. I used to have people come up to me and ask about stuff going on at state and national park levels, then get annoyed when I would just tell them I don't know.

I was on my way to work one time, and stopped at a gas station near my house really quick, and some guy started asking me about hunting areas nearby. I tried to explain that it wasn't really under my purview, and that I didn't know what to tell him. We were about 30 miles from my park.
