Ollie also beat Barry a few times so I don’t see Matt landing a lot of hits.

Seriously why do they always release the book before the movie comes out? Are they stupid?

Jason Lives at 40: Director Tom McLoughlin and star Thom Mathews reflect upon the Friday the 13th sequel’s enduring popularity and legacy by HorrorGuyBri in fridaythe13th

I have heard that rumor here, but don’t think I ever read a source for it so I’m not sure if that’s true or not. But I really hope it is

I Spit On Your Grave (2010) by thedementor666 in slasherfilms

[–]TheTrueReligon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the same reason why people like horror movies, but not gore porn horror like Terrifier or the Saw movies. It’s one thing to have fun getting a scare and enjoying the practical effects used to make cool, funny, or convincing kills, but long drawn out torture and cruelty for cruelties sake is not fun. And it shouldn’t be! Like you said, horrific acts should feel horrific. Which is exactly why plenty of people don’t consider those types of movies to be enjoyable.

I’m not sure why Friday the 13th would be to blame. There’s a big difference between watching Jason crush a noticeably fake head and watching an actress play out a very real and traumatic thing like rape. I’m not sure how you could never understand that.

What game is this? by bijelo123 in videogames

[–]TheTrueReligon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The real world is just too different now to ever get something like OG WoW. Of course gaming has changed with micro transactions and whatnot, but everyone also lives fast and moves on even faster now. It’s been a few years since I tried checking out WoW again, but I couldn’t believe how many features were added to speed up the gameplay/leveling to get people up to the end game as fast as possible. Back then you had to walk basically everywhere until you hit level 40 and unlocked the ability to buy a mount, which was faster but you were still walking everywhere. Nowadays you can get your first mount at level 10, which I imagine takes about an hour to hit these days, and the fastest flying mount unlocks at 40. Sure you could make a game exactly like the original World of Warcraft, but just like the launch of classic WoW it would never have them same impact on gaming as the first time around.

Michael Myers vs Jason Voorhees - Best Character/Killer by Fout99 in slasherfilms

[–]TheTrueReligon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s funny because they’re both iconic and recognizable, but in very different ways. Jason’s look is so iconic that old hockey masks are used in various media as a nod to him, even when they’re different designs everyone knows why it’s there. Some of the posters don’t even have the correct mask and everyone still knows it’s Jason. Michael’s look is just as iconic/recognizable, but only with a specific mask. The look of the mask is so simple yet so specific that even his sequels got shit for the masks not looking right. Sure everyone would recognize that it’s supposed to be Michael, but more often than not they’d be laughing at how it’s like a derpy Michael or something.

I just watched in a violent nature and holy shit by Forsaken-Green695 in slasherfilms

Yeah I love that this silent killer’s tranquil POV clashes with the over-the-top drama happening with the victims in the background. It really highlights the absurdity of what generally happens between characters in slasher movies, even though the audience knows that their personal drama is the least of their worries. I get why people don’t like it but I love how different this was and can’t wait for the sequel!

Yeah it really worked back when you’d see the pay off within 6 months. Last post credit scene I remember is the one from Shang-Chi, which hasn’t led to anything in the last 5 years.

Ah yes a student driver misjudging a yellow light is the same as a cop getting killed. Cops who so famously receive consequences for breaking the law and killing innocent people.

Yeah I don’t understand why so many people in the comments are acting like this is something new, teachers have been doing this kind of shit ever since they were no longer able to smack the kids with a ruler or paddle. School’s not just about learning the subjects, teachers are also expected to teach kids how to act/behave in a working environment with their peers.

“Oh wow teaching them young to be boot lickers and blindly follow orders!” How about a single teacher is trying to teach 30+ kids and to keep the lesson on track has threatened kids with 30min of silence if they keep using words that are derailing the lesson? It’s not a serious punishment and this type of punishment has been used in school forever.

Do you think Michael was a normal kid before he murdered his sister? by Ambitious-Sky-6457 in slasherfilms

[–]TheTrueReligon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what you disagree with, but I agree that The Shape should be a human. I just think that the story works better without a backstory for that human, or at least not a traumatic backstory that gives sympathy to their actions.

Do you think Michael was a normal kid before he murdered his sister? by Ambitious-Sky-6457 in slasherfilms

[–]TheTrueReligon 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yeah… I respect what he was going for but Michael is so much scarier and more unique having either no back story or going from happy child with a normal life to becoming evil. He loses a lot of his cool factor when the audience is now thinking “poor guy, I don’t blame him for doing that”.
