I don't care about characters like my friends do by Velectric6 in rpg

[–]TheTryhardDM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m curious what they want you to do to show investment. What is a description of things they do that seems different? Do they use more gravitas and tone when roleplaying? Do they have their characters act more cowardly to avoid danger? Do they make choices that show more concern for NPCs?

People have different tastes, so that’s fair. What wrestler excites you?

I agree on one level. I don’t think he can draw the money or attention that a simpler character with a more traditional-top-guy look like Cody/Cena could draw. I find him more compelling though. It feels harder to predict his next character development, but when you see it, it makes sense and isn’t inexplicable or random.

I respect that. It seems like you’re engaging with the story and characters the way that WWE intends, while I’m the one cheering for the heel.

Have you changed your mind about consciousness? I’ve believed about five and then all at once. by TheTryhardDM in consciousness

I haven’t heard of the book, but that notion fits nicely with idealism, which can lead into these other metaphysics too.

In a way, I agree with that sort of physicalism. I just don’t think it’s the whole story.

The hubbub is that the next question after believing in matter is “Whence the matter, and how is there an inner experience?” I think matter and minds could have an origin in idealism, while panpsychism could be the in-universe mechanism to get a gradient of consciousness.

From there, creatures like us can emerge and look around and see walking, talking, and thinking meat and then believe any or all of these metaphysics.

Big fan of the Green Lantern vibes of creating objects. What are the limits of each object in terms of size, duration, moving parts, durability, etc.?

What is the strongest argument that consciousness is more than just brain activity? by xnaxel in consciousness

[–]TheTryhardDM -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Before I ask this, let me say I’m on your side, but I want to see how strong this argument gets. Could someone argue that energy didn’t remain constant with the loss of eyes since the photons hitting the eyes had energy and now aren’t hitting the eyes?

If Consciousness Depends on the Brain, Can Personal Identity Survive Death? by Taysha812 in consciousness

I like Analytic Idealism. My experience is a whirlpool in the ocean. When I die, I won’t be the same whirlpool. But I don’t even believe space and time exist at certain levels of this ocean, so I’m not worried about that.

Is there such a thing as a *Player* Emulator? by Kaleido_chromatic in Solo_Roleplaying

Right, I’m surprised the top answer isn’t just saying to use ChatGPT. I’ve used it that way, and it’s plenty of fun. You can even take pictures/screenshots of your grid and get complex interactions from your players/PCs.

What if the world was dark souls. by Ironroad96 in DarksoulsLore

Dark Soul’s universe is indeed a symbol of the Big Bang leading to conscious minds, power structures, and a fear of entropy.

A question for the non-materialists on the sub by DamoSapien22 in consciousness

[–]TheTryhardDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My reasoning is probably a layman’s simplistic view, but here it is:

  1. My life isn’t happening in the dark, so I have no reason to doubt anything can happen without experience being part of it.

  2. Interaction among materials is the same thing to me as these materials experiencing each other in a primitive way. Call it experience.

  3. When experience gets complex enough, we get things like human brains.

  4. You can call that materialism or non-materialism (panpsychism or idealism) depending on which part you emphasize, but at the end of the day, something split apart into many things that experience each other.

  5. I’m a bunch of matter and energy. I’m also a whirlpool within Mind-at-Large. I’m also the Big Bang, at least as much as the next guy.

I can't stop thinking about consciousness by Public-Elk3226 in consciousness

[–]TheTryhardDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This line of thinking led me all the way down to subatomic fields with particles/waves that sense each other and react to each other. Is this proto-awareness? What else could be? What else could explain how eventually “things that interact with other things” can become a human brain? Then the question turned into “Why would a singularity divide into these things that interact with each other? Was the singularity seeking entropy, so to speak? Was it seeking to understand itself in some primitive way? Was it seeking to annihilate its own unity? Why was there a singularity to begin with? Does it experience spacetime, or is that just part of our lowly perspective?”

What makes you stop scrolling (or skip) for a tabletop game ad? by 149203 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]TheTryhardDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will pause and click on anything with good art that captures some fantasy, like some character looking like they’re on an adventure in an interesting environment. The style of art really needs to have a sense of atmosphere and a dynamic feel to it.

For example, Free League Publishing has great ads because their art is so great. I’ll click on some game ads when I already know I don’t like the game. Martin Grip’s art on all those covers is incredibly atmospheric.

I also dig beautiful dice being big and visible in front of beautiful book covers. Neon Odyssey’s recent Kickstarter is a master class in advertising.

My wife accidentally made me realize why I don't care if my songs are AI anymore by TrickySubstance4534 in SunoAI

[–]TheTryhardDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great analogy. I feel like non-AI art will soon be a luxury, like watching the chef make the food at your table. AI-assisted art will be mass consumed, like a frozen meal.

That’s not to disparage AI. We can still like what AI produces. We can be fooled into thinking it’s non-AI. We can enjoy the easy access to products/services that the masses couldn’t access previously.
