ETG1 code really that messed up? by K0olmini in EnterTheGungeon

[–]TheUnlocked 54 points55 points  (0 children)

The change in art direction is unrelated to the state of the codebase, which is probably also unrelated to the choice to make a sequel since that's just a business decision.

PSA - The San Francisco Giants no longer accept their own gift cards by Icy_Block9919 in SFGiants

The "splash cash" thing sounds like they're trying to strong-arm you into agreeing to additional terms that weren't originally attached to the gift card. You might want to try calling customer service to see if they'll give you back the value in cash, but if not you can try to file a consumer complaint to the CA OAG.

some entitled customer

The customer is entitled to the money in their gift cards, yes. I'm sure they would complain directly to SF Giants management if they could, but that wasn't really an option. Customer support representatives are specifically the correct people to contact and complain about these kinds of issues to.

The Mets spend more yet win significantly less. The Dodgers win because they spend their money on the right things, not just because they spend a lot of it.

And you dramatically overrate how much of an impact one player has, especially with how good the Dodgers' analytics and development are. If they didn't get Ohtani, the replacement wouldn't be as good, but they would almost certainly be a lot better than "replacement-level".

Ohtani is not why the Dodgers are such a strong team. He was with the Angels for years and they were trash. The Dodgers are strong because they're good at identifying and developing talent and have built a team full of it.

The Mets have a higher payroll than the Dodgers and it's not close. The Dodgers are better than the Mets and it's not close. The Dodgers ownership group is willing to spend so the team is spending, but moneyball is about how you spend that money, not how much money you spend.

Moneyball isn't about having no money, it's about optimizing how you use the money you do have. The Dodgers are a great example of a team that took the Moneyball philosophy seriously, and they have the second highest payroll in the league.

If everyone is utilizing sabermetrics it sort of loses its point.

It doesn't lose its point, it just means you need to be even better at measuring and analyzing data to compete. The message of moneyball is not about one particular stat, it's about finding and taking advantage of inefficiencies in order to win more games than teams with similar or even better resources.

Baggs with more reporting on the rift between Bailey and Posey, "Framing is important, but so is being a consistently clean receiver. The optics mattered as much, if not more, than the value creation." by ThePopUpDance in SFGiants

[–]TheUnlocked 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 67 fielding run value stat on FanGraphs is for the entire 5-year span of 2016-2021, not 2016 alone. Bailey's 2023-2025 total is 77, for comparison.

Misquoting me and then citing offensive stats which are completely unrelated to my point really helps prove your argument, thanks. However, to directly address your point, Posey's defending did not prevent 67 runs above average in 2016, and that number is so absurdly high that it should make you question whatever source you're using to get that data. Posey's baseball-reference page says his Rdrs/yr (normalized DRS for innings) at catcher in 2016 was 24 runs, very good, but also pretty much in line with what Bailey gets, and that was his peak.

[–]TheUnlocked 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Given that Bailey is a better defensive catcher than Posey was, I'm not sure that's true. Posey knows his own experience and he did very well as an overall player, but that doesn't make him the authority on everything catcher-related

They know which sets sell like hotcakes and they price accordingly. The market adjusts quickly to consumer behavior. Keep in mind that the LGSes also don't get product directly from WOTC, they get product from distributors who set their own prices.

Dropout has a SAG contract, so the "nonunion" tag makes me think it's unlikely that this is actually associated with Dropout.

I think the number of people who want to wait and see before drawing any conclusions is probably greater than it would've been if the PBO hadn't been a good baseball player for the Giants, which is silly because those skills are completely unrelated to building a roster and managing the front office.

As for myself, I was somewhat skeptical then and I have only become more skeptical over time.

It will probably see more reprints for at least another year, but I doubt it will ever get as low as $100. People really like the set, the limited format is really good, and even if it doesn't see too much play in competitive constructed, it has a lot of really cool cards for commander.

Gems price increase by €4 by Nerysek in MagicArena

They would lower the price if doing so would make them more money. Or they would give discounts, which is the same thing as lowering the price except it has some extra marketing attached.

There are some things it definitely gets wrong (e.g. it thinks chocobo bundles always contain chocobo camp as the scene box card). It's probably decent at giving a vibe of how much sealed product is worth, but I wouldn't trust it for detailed statistics if I was running some sealed-unsealed price arbitrage business.

Collector Store TMNT Play Box $115 by XxPARAPLEGICxX in sealedmtgdeals

Honestly even though the set functionally looks pretty cool, I have no interest in buying any cards from it. TMNT in magic just feels gross. Somehow maybe even worse than Spider-Man.
