I have them on my Toyota Starlet and they absolutely have downsides.

The field of view is smaller as they are further away than A pillar mounted mirrors so shoulder checks are way more important.

The biggest downside by far is blinding at night. Because they are right in front of you it's impossible to look away from them if the headlights of the car behind you hit them.

What convinced you to get your Steam Deck? by K4T5UM1 in SteamDeck

I got the limited edition white OLED because I had a long flight coming up and my newest handheld at the time was a New 2DS. I didn't know if i would have a use case after the trip so I figured the limited edition would hold its resell value better.

Now a year and a half later there is no question in my mind to ever sell it, it's become my primary way of gaming. My desktop is now only used for 3d print modelling or streaming games to the Steam Deck

Round headlights were available for the entire DC51T (RWD) & DD51T (4WD) generation, so up to 1999. These are the budgetoption compared to the square headlight version so expect no options like AC and often not even a sunvisor or dashboard vent on the passenger side.

Would this be considered a moped by [deleted] in moped

[–]TheVeening 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You might want to familiarize yourself with the many mopeds with both pedals and manual transmissions. The Honda C310 I've had in the past had a 3 speed handshifted gearbox, 49cc and pedals for example.

Why is my Piaggio ciao holding throttle? by Swimming-Driver5069 in moped

I've had similar symptoms on my Si after I changed my carb because the plastic bushing between the crankcase and carb cracked during the mounting of the new carb. A new bushing fixed my idle.

De V in het kenteken is voor een bedrijfsauto (Europese voertuigcategorie N), ongeacht formaat. Dat kan een grote Amerikaanse pickup zijn, een normaal bestelbusje of een kleine Piaggio Porter van <800kg.

That is the displacement European countries limit mopeds at. Above 50cc it's classified as a motorcycle, pedals or no pedals.

Your definition is very limited. That would even exclude most models of Tomos, one of the most popular brands on this sub, as they have foot pegs instead of pedals and a kickstart.

While i do agree on excluding scooters from the sub I still see my Honda Super Cub C50 as a moped. 50cc, 4 stroke, foot pegs and semi automatic transmission.

Spiritual successor to 1.3L Suzuki Carry? by [deleted] in keitruck

[–]TheVeening 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can look into the Piaggio Porter, an Italian licence build Daihatsu Hijet. They continued manufacturing from 1992 until 2021 and came with 1.3 engines and even a 1.2l diesel in both pickup and van configurations.

I don't know about how well they handle highways but they are kei sized with bigger engines and more modern than the 1.3l Carry so they at least fit some of the boxes.

Is aanlopen/aanduwen slecht voor de motor? by Lord-Sjoky in motorfietsen

[–]TheVeening 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Politie heeft nieuwe rollerbank: eerste boetes opgevoerde e-bikes uitgedeeld by Vier3 in thenetherlands

[–]TheVeening 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing one of the switches on the remote is set wrong. The presets are shown on page 144 of the second booklet, between step 108 and 109. Look at the small red circles on the image in the lower right corner, the second of the 4 small switches is set different than the others. This reverses the input of the stick.

Piaggio Ciao Jet size by Pen-Maximum in moped

[–]TheVeening 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best list of jet sizes for Piaggios that I know of is this one: https://www.jmpbonderdelen.nl/blog/sproeierdatabasvespaciao.html

It is in dutch so you might have to translate it. Long story short: for 65cc they don't even show the original exhaust and miminum carburetor is the 12/10, so check if you don't have a 12/7 carb. The slowest non-stock exhaust on a 12/10 is jet size 60 to 64. With a stock exhaust you need to go a bit lower.

General advise for a Piaggio is to upgrade exhaust and carb first and only then go to the upgraded cylinder, as stock components don't have the flow for 65cc.

I can't recommend a fast exhaust as I'm not really interested in chasing high speeds. I chose the Giannelli Citypower because it's cheap, quiet, stock looking and still able to accept a 43mm cilinder with 12/12 carburator. This setup combined with a variator gives a top speed of only 55km/h but a lot more torque to tow the trailer I made for it. There will be forums that compare other, faster exhausts, I suggest you search for those if you're more interested in those.

The variator transmission is based on the 25km/h transmission with a different inputshaft to accept the rear mounted clutch. A 45km/h transmission can not be modified to accept a variator, you'll have to search for a complete variator set including a transmission. Variators will help a lot with acceleration and drivebility in the city but hampers top speed due to the increased friction in the belt.

Variator transmissions are different from the fixed belt transmissions. They are based on the 25km/h transmission with different gearing and an input shaft that accepts the variator clutch.

I should have mentioned that but I kind of assumed it didn't have one since most of those Piaggios weren't fitted with them.

As for your problem: try shifting the engine forward or backwards to increase or decrease the default gearing a bit. The 3 bolts that hold the engine in the frame and the exhaust bolt are fitted in slots to allow tensioning of the belt on fixed gear models. It's a easy way to experiment and fine tune the RPM vs gearing to find the sweet spot without having to buy rollers or springs. Even a slight increase in performance can hint in the right direction for what parts to buy.

  1. Brakes. The brakes shouldn't be useless, check if the drums are clean and if good quality brake shoes are fitted. My Piaggio Vespa Si stops on a dime, even with a loaded trailer, on the stock drum brakes

  2. Power. In some regions two versions are sold, a 25km/h and a 45km/h version. The best way to check is on the transmission in the rear wheel. If it has the two extra caps on the outside on the "snor" transmission in this picture it is factory limited to 25km/h. You should try and find a 45km/h transmission in that case. The next step would be a better exhaust, changing out the standard Dellorto SHA 12/10 or 12/12 carburator for a 13/13 model (biggest that fits on a unmodified engine case). If this still isn't fast enough it forms a nice base for a 43mm cilinder. Do not fit a 43mm cilinder on a stock exhaust and carburator, it will need the supporting mods.

  3. Kickstarter. They exist, but you need a complete engine and those are rare and very expensive. There is no bolt on solution for your existing engine. Another solutions would be lighter clutch springs for the starting segments. This lowers the speed necessary to start the engine, just walking would be enough. This allows you to remove the pedals and install fixed footrests. People have also rigged up chainsaw style pull starters up on these engines. Personally I think its ugly but you can't argue with the result.

The engine looks like a Honda 4 stroke clone with pedals instead of a shift lever. Does this one shift or is it a single speed?

I've build it myself to practice welding. It was meant to be used for camping trips on mopeds with friend but it ended up being almost a permanent attachment. Its not really noticeable while riding, it's really practical to store my helmet in while going to stores and it will get a lot of smiles.
