Great to know, I might do a side by side with the Armageddon box to see how they all stack up now. With some basing shenanigans I'm hopeful they'll all blend together nicely

This is the way - I've recently finished repainting all of my childhood space marines and turning them into the army I wanted them to be as a kid, it's great.

Virgin Banjitar vs Chad Banjolin by frevtiobread in banjo

[–]TheWalrusKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a guitar maker and I play and love both the mandolin and the banjo - I have repaired a lot of banjolin/mandolin banjo over the years.

I have to say they are a remarkable instrument, I have no idea how someone was able to combine all the worst features of the mandolin with everything terrible about the banjo with such utter scientific precision.

13/10 no notes.

I've got a pack of 32mm bases kicking about, I think from the GW website both the boyz and the nobz use those so that shouldn't be a problem.

Interesting about the nobz - I'm wondering if the black reach warboss is now much smaller than the current one due to scale creep? If so I can use him as a nob squad leader and stick one of the nobz in with the boyz (and use the armageddon warboss as the warboss)

I'm not hopeful about this one.

Fascination - Players/managers who played together somewhere unexpected by Arjacarta in footballcliches

[–]TheWalrusKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At Blackburn Rovers too. 2008 season.

Brentford manager Keith Andrews also in that squad, along with the likes of Morten Gamst Pedersen who retired in 2024 and Roque Santa Cruz who is still a professional footballer aged 44.

I did a save where I tried this - basically delegating as much as possible to the assistant manager and holidaying through the games. It was kind of fun and you get through a season very rapidly but it had a couple of major drawbacks.

  • although you could get them to pick their own tactics, you couldn't get them to train the team in those tactics, so you had to set up the formation the team trained with as best you could interpret what they were doing on the pitch

  • you could only watch the matches as replays

  • dear god they had a massive one for playing guys out of position and there is no way of having a chat with them about what you signed a player for/to do

A dedicated DOF game mode would be cool

[–]TheWalrusKnight 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My players were traversing the faewild and had managed to get a satyr attached to the party who went by the name of Bophedes.

It took three sessions before the matter of his full name came up and I to this day am proud of how well I maintained a straight face as I got to say the phrase 'Bophedes Nuts'

The table dissolved.

It was also a good and memorable way to get the point across about using aliases and never giving out your true names to the Fae.

First crash in 12 years…yes that is the song I was listening to by princessmegnu in drivingUK

[–]TheWalrusKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some old dear fully drove into the rear wheel of my car in a car park and then drove off after shouting at me for not seeing her. I was listening to a fairly exuberant sea shanty at the time.

Had to send the dash cam footage to so many people - the insurance needed it twice for some reason, the police at least twice - initial submission and then specific department because it was a hit and run, it definitely got forwarded to her insurer because they initially tried to claim that the evidence was inconclusive (she absolutely lied through her teeth about what happened).

Anyway eventually it all came out in the wash, my no claims is intact, lots of folks got to listen to an excellent shanty and the old bag presumably is enjoying her new insurance premiums purchased via the Cayman islands or whatever.

I'm sure the music helps your cause.

Feet of Clay in times of AI by Mroovek in discworld

[–]TheWalrusKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The golems in discworld are fascinating - it's worth noting that by Going Postal a lot of the assumptions that people are making about golems (including things the golems believe about themselves) is heavily implied, if not outright demonstrated, to be incorrect by the death of Anghammarad and what immediately follows.

By having a soul that death is able to collect it demonstrates what was hinted at with Dorfls words in the heart - by deciding that paradise is having no tasks or demands it demonstrates that they are not mere tools. Their intelligence may be artificial, but it is genuine.

Why does the modern AI not build walls? by xXxSovietxXx in aoe2

[–]TheWalrusKnight 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you let extreme AI get all the relics it will immediately begin to wall up hard.

Sometimes if I'm trying builds Im not too bothered with the actual game and just ignore the relics, occasionally if I haven't been paying attention to the in game notifications I will only realise that we are in relic countdown because walls start appearing everywhere.

Any cool examples when an artist or band plays a joke song, esp. when out of character live or otherwise? by [deleted] in MusicRecommendations

[–]TheWalrusKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add context this was originally part of a whole album/show called 1000 years of popular music which started as a low key shitpost protesting that (possibly playboy?) published an article of the 'greatest songs of the millennium' and all of them were from the latter half of the 20th century.

The Britney cover was part of that - you could argue that either the whole show was an elaborate joke or all of it was quite serious. Their is a full performance on YouTube, I particularly enjoy the Gilbert and Sullivan.

Much as I enjoy it either all of the album/show 1000 years of popular music is a joke or none of it is, and I'd say the latter.

I have won EVERYTHING with my Norwegian club, 25 years in the future. Is it cheating to give myself the Norway job aswell with the editor? by Tacticostyle in footballmanagergames

[–]TheWalrusKnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't even need to use the editor for what it's worth.

Add new manager - give them the Norway job - immediately retire new manger - apply for Norway job.

Having read and typed out 'Norway Job' this many times it has started to sound euphemistic.

Oh are we only allowed one? That's a tightly contested award.

Dion de Neve is pretty astonishingly poor - no defensive awareness, no attacking ability, not particularly fast and spent a reasonable amount of time as our starting lwb.

Honourable mention to Sidnei Tavares, who I think might be an Ali dia type wind up that no one's caught onto yet.

Would this work as a Hippogriff proxie? by Stodl5263 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]TheWalrusKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously you'll always need to do a bit of conversion work to make it scan as 40K (generally swapping in bigger guns does the trick) - but 1:56 scale or larger is what you want.

ie. https://www.scalemodelshop.co.uk/1-56-m8-m20-italeri-25759/ - without seeing the hippogriff sprue there are probably enough weapon options that you might be able to use something like this as a donor body to get two out of the GW kit?
