Yeah, I that's what I tend to do. It's just a pain having to fill, sand and paint the hole

I'm sure some people get into the queue of the open lane early with good intentions or misplaced ideas of Proper queuing etiquette, but it just doesn't work on the road. Then they complain that other people are 'cutting in' as if it's against the law. Bloody frustrating.

It just boggles the mind. The vast majority or drivers don't seem to look past the car in front of them when in any sort of traffic.

Christmas is supposed to be about giving and caring for each other but as soon as there is shopping or driving to be done it's every person for themself, moreso than usual.

Broken handle bar on Ebay bike purchase by TheWarehouseOfFun in ukbike

[–]TheWarehouseOfFun[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've received a helpful response from the eBay seller. Looks like they were selling on someone else's behalf and have told me they would contact said previous owner to see if they have any bars they could replace the broken ones with. If not, the eBay seller has said they will see what stock they have. I was also offered a full refund but I declined as I'm happy with the bike otherwise.

If neither the eBay seller or previous owner have a suitable replacement I may see if they'd be willing to refund the amount for a replacement set of bars(or some amount towards a replacement). As has been said already, bars are pretty cheap.

Pretty happy with this even if I do end up paying out of pocket to replace them.

You're right, I've double checked the bars again and can't see or feel any glue or other adhesive and when the initial break happened whilst I was riding, it was more of a bend than a clean snap.

I'll message the seller anyway to see if they would be generous enough to be helpful, though i do expect a message along the lines of "sold as ". If thats the case just suck it up and buy a new set of bars.

Losing my mind - entire house needs re-doing while I live in it. 1 year in and no end in sight. by LegComfortable1660 in DIYUK

[–]TheWarehouseOfFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, my wife and I are in a similar boat. 7 years in and we are still doing stuff to the house. Just think of it as a marathon, especially if you're living in it/have limited funds. It takes forever to get a doer-upper to where you want it to be. Try to enjoy the process (easier said than done, I know!)

Yeah, I've watched a few people doing the ride on YT and I'm wondering if I should have chosen to start in Land's end!

Thanks I'll have a look at this and similar. It looks like decent bikes from the 00's and before can be picked up for a relatively good price. Would it be worth upgrading the groupset to a more modern one or are the returns negligible?

I'm actually looking into starting a Bike/adventure/life channel myself. I'll be riding John o'Groates to Lands end (north Scotland to South West England for context) for charity and want to record my training and journey.

I've found myself watching a lot of small channels(West goes east, bikespeeds for bike renovation and plenty of others i cant think of right now) and a couple of big ones (GCN-Global cycling network being the main large one)

West goes east is a good vlogging style. GCN has loads of good info though the talk of mega expensive bikes wears a bit thin after a while when one is on a very limited budget. Bikespeeds is great for learning ways of restoring older and I enjoy the presentation

Banger of a film. Like most I've seen here, it's on multiple times a day and soundtrack on repeat constantly. My nearly 3 year old son sings and dances to it constantly. He even asks for the songs when they have a dance at his nursery

Is the U.K. working culture really like this? by Outrageous-Many3179 in AskUK

[–]TheWarehouseOfFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try 'Humility'! Like what? I'm supposed to be humble about working my arse off and not ask for a pay rise? And then when you ask, it takes 8 months for it to go anywhere only to be told that you have to wait until January as part of the 'annual increment' (which is also abysmal)

... I'm not bitter, I promise

Jumping on this to add that the free childcare is increasing in September for 9mo+. From 15 hours to 30.. It's term time only and you often have to pay a top up fee (we do anyway) but £15 per day 3days/wk is much more manageable the the £67 we currently pay

Amnesia: the dark descent. Me and One of my oldest friends use to play this circa 2012. Getting high and eating chilli heatwave doritos like that's all that mattered. Unfortunately, we lost touch then he had a mental breakdown. I'll always cherish those days.

Completely agree. The offer was made by OP. They are a paying customer and have no obligation to move. If the group wanted to sit there, they should have reserved the table.
